I absolutely do love certain creators. When I went to ECCC last year I had Ron Marz sign my first five issues of Voodoo (Sami Basri, where are you, I need your art brah). I had James Robinson sign my variant cover art copies of Earth 2. I had Gail Simone sign my Batgirl #1, and Scott Snyder sign my Batman #1, #12 and #17. So I certainly do gravitate to some creators. But my order of preference is probably,

A) Character/s
B) Artist / Colorist
C) Writer

I can deal with bad writing, bad art kills it for me, and I can't read books about characters I don't care about.

Can someone point me in the direction to a release date for vol 3 of Captain Marvel? I know a couple issues are included in that Avengers Enemy Within tpb but what about the rest?

Basri was so good on Power Girl. I wish that series would get some OHC action but that'll never happen.

Basri was so good on Power Girl.

Funny story. When Basri took over art duties on Power Girl, I fucking raged. I was an absolute fan boy for Amanda Connor and thought her leaving the book was literally the worst thing ever. I came to appreciate just how skillful an artist he is. He quickly elevated to one of my absolute favorites.

Tbh I was pissed as fuck that the entire creative team changed. That team was just absolutely perfect for PeeGee and it's the definition of a fun comic book. That second team took some time to grow on me but they definitely did.

I'm like 50/50 on the whole character/creator thing. A good writer or artist working on a good story can certainly get me to read a book about a character I don't care about (like Synder on Swamp Thing or...basically every X-Men book I've read/am reading), but I can totally admit to reading some things just because I love the character so much. I stuck it out with Slott's Spider-Man all the way to issue 9 of Superior even though I hadn't been feeling his writing since Spider-Island because I love Spider-Man, for example. In fact, to bring it back on topic, I haven't been into Batwoman that much for a while, but man, I love me some Kate Kane.

I will say that a bad creative team will get me to drop or not read a book before apathy for a character will. The Teen Titans are my favorite hero team, but Scott Lobdell just repels me, to use one example. On the flipside, I do think a good creative team can make you care about a character you previously didn't (again, like Synder on Swamp Thing).

I really have no problem dropping books with my favorite characters cause I'm willing to just go back and read their old stories, 99% of which are totally new to me. Not giving a fuck about continuity or all that helps; long as the story is good, I'm there.

I haven't followed a character without a creator in like 25 years.

I get the occasional tie-in but that feels at least directed by a creator I like.

Yeah, im definitely more tied to the characters than the creators. Hell, I enjoyed the new 52 Deathstroke run when if you looked at it compared to other stuff it was kinda not good from a writing standpoint.

As much as I hate to say it, the hierarchy for me goes artist, writer and then characters. I want to say writer, but I'd be lying to myself. Writing can be elevated higher with a great writer though. Characters get less important the more I read.

It's the rare combination of the 3 firing on all cylinders that really bring a book to new levels though. Kate is a great character, the art is the best in the business bar none and the writing was exciting, poetic and engaging. Hawkeye, Saga, Daredevil all hit those right now. I like the art in All New X-Men a lot, the writing is meh. X-Men is another good amalgamation.

Eh. It's sort of a golden age of comics that I personally enjoy. So many great ongoing a right now and a ton of variance, even in label. All good things though...

So I finished sunstone, fuck. there needs to be more, like now.

There's only 3 chapters so far, right? I liked it. It's nice that this playful, mostly light-hearted exploration of B/D/S/M exists. But I have to say it is just so damn wordy. Really really way too wordy. I skimmed chunks of it and I never do that. Narration must be pretty tricky to pull off. Because I find it hella annoying in some recent books. I appreciate so much when creators can tell a story with dialogue and actions and, y'know, PICTURES.

I never tear that little paper to get the digital code for the books, guys. Even though it pisses me off to be charged an extra dollar for the fucker. But I don't do it because I feel like I'm damaging the stupid book. Just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone needs someone new to be mad at.

I read Poison Ivy's book last night and I enjoyed it. Her cover was great also with lots of 3d layers for her hair that showed up well. Its really fun seeing these villain origin stories.

Also another example why I like DC so much is the Darth Vader effect. Everyone loves Darth Vader as a villain and I honestly think DC has more iconic villains than any story universe. I always want good to prevail in a story but I want the road there to be an epic one and DC has the villains to provide that.

For the most part I follow characters, with the exception being for some writers/artists. A good writer/artist team can totally get me to follow a character that I had no interest in before. I just can't do the read a book for X months while writer Y is doing it and then drop it. I like to know what's happened before, and what's going to happen next. I like world building a lot. I enjoy seeing a mostly consistent history. That said I don't mind when an entire universe is rebooted. I might actually start reading Marvel again if they did that. I used to read a TON of Marvel books as well back in the day, but they started doing shit with the characters that just pissed me off and I dropped them. Every few years I try to pick back up on some of those characters, but it just hasn't worked for me.

Yes, that was my one problem with it. Its very wordy at times. But its mostly great and his art is fantastic in my opinion. He is about to start posting the 4th chapter it seems. He does a good job making it all feel very real.

spoilers for sunstone
that thing with the girl cutting off her circulation was crazy :/

DC Universe vs. Masters of the Universe, I so love you.

Kisses,

krypt0

I was totally digging it until I got to the last page and it implied it wasn't taking place in the main DCU. Kind of a ripoff.
I also don't like He-Man's new look. It's crappy. Or Skeletor's, for that matter.

Forever Evil was surprisingly not as awful as I thought it would be though. I couldn't help but wonder if Didio will finally get to have his long denied orgasm and use this event to kill off
Nightwing
. Seems like
Batman
is fucked either way though. Until they magic it all away at the end, I mean.

Superior Spider-Man was pretty decent. I like the first story and the Harley story in Batman Black & White, too.

Everything else I picked up ranged from mediocre to crap.

The art is really good. I like it and I don't often go for that kind of, like, computerized looking style. I just wish that all the characters weren't long and tall and skinny body types. But, yeah, the way he draws two main character's faces, their expressions- it's almost anime-ish, isn't it? Anyway, yeah, the way he draws them and writes their relationship in general is pretty sweet.
The circulation thing was scary. But I imagine it's a genuine danger to the practice of B/D/S/M.
I quite liked that part of the story. It worked well.

Hey guys can you help me ID some villians and what books they are from:

foreverevil-1-spread.jpg

On the left:

Who is that girl with the mask between Black Adam, Despero, and Metal Zero?
That guy with the Starro face was this his first apperance?
That guy in the back with the Sun symbol on his chest in an old school costume next to monocle
That silver person between Johnny Quick and Superwoman

On Right:
Is that a new version of Ragdoll looking up underneath Ultraman?
The native american looking guy at the top
The guy with blue skin and a monocle next to Boomerang and atomic skull in the back
The guy in the top hat next to Zsasz bottom right
The large metal dude with beard and long hair between Merlyn and Killer Frost?
The Warewolf on Huge Strange's left?

If true I'll be really really impressed with Marvel, because they would have laid the groundwork in a spectacular fashion. Something is definitely going to go down though, almost every story lately has some timetravel or dimension hopping element in it. Now that I realise that, I'm very interested to see where it goes next, especially is BotA and Infinity weave together somehow. That would be a mindfuck.

it certainly seems that way. Slightconfuse pointed out the timeline stuff was hinted at way back in Bendis' avengers run, The Hulk is currently running through time in a significant manner, and I had forgotten that AoA as a *continuity* has been eliminated, and recently.

So in a short span of time, we have Marvel eliminating high profile alternate realities (AoA, 2099, Ultimate), and incorporating time/continuity under threat events in just about every title with high profile crossovers- with more coming.

I don't think "infinity" is the big crossover- I think it's just the warm up.

I was trying to guess what happened before it, and was like WTF when it happened. He really nailed that bit.

Some of the relationships are a bit dodgy but the two main characters relationship is so well done.

Okay, yes that is a sensationalized headline but it’s also accurate. DC comics has announced that they are opening up a talent search to have someone draw a page of Harley Quinn #0 along side Amanda Conner, Paul Pope, Bruce Timm and more. The new series being written by Jimmy Palmiotti and his new wife Conner begins this November and they are looking for an undiscovered talent to join them for a single page. Entries can be just pencils, pencils and inks or even pencilled, inked and colored but you must keep in mind that whatever you do on the page is going to be judged on a professional level so only do what you are really good at.

Judges for the contest will be Jim Lee and Dan Didio and all the details are available here.

As for the Harley Quinn nude part, here is the script they want you to work from.

PAGE 15

4 panels

PANEL 1
Harley is on top of a building, holding a large DETACHED cellphone tower in her hands as lightning is striking just about everywhere except her tower. She is looking at us like she cannot believe what she is doing. Beside herself. Not happy.

PANEL 2
Harley is sitting in an alligator pond, on a little island with a suit of raw chicken on, rolling her eyes like once again, she cannot believe where she has found herself. We see the alligators ignoring her.

PANEL 3
Harley is sitting in an open whale mouth, tickling the inside of the whale’s mouth with a feather. She is ecstatic and happy, like this is the most fun ever.

PANEL 4
Harley sitting naked in a bathtub with toasters, blow dryers, blenders, appliances all dangling above the bathtub and she has a cord that will release them all. We are watching the moment before the inevitable death. Her expression is one of “oh well, guess that’s it for me” and she has resigned herself to the moment that is going to happen.

Gonna try and get my wife to do this.

wait
holy shit
is the time gem the one that disappeared but didn't get destroyed?

Infinity has confirmed that yes, the time gem is the one that simply disappeared.
Thanos knows about it and his forces are on earth tearing it apart looking for it as of the most recent issue of new avengers.

There is no way that this is coincidence.

fucking hell.

marvel on some breaking bad season 5 shit

especially when you consider that the seeds for 2099 disintegrating and Spiderman2099 coming back were planted waaaaaaaaaay back in "big time" with tiberius stone, the time door, etc.

whatever this is has been very well planned and very well coordinated.

edit: I can't decide if the elimination of "multiversal guardians" like the council of reeds and the captain britain corps (relatively) recently is tied into this as well, or just coincidence.

I can help with a couple.
Guy with the sun symbol and old school costume is Signalman.
Starro guy is a first appearance.
Identity of the Ragdoll lookalike has not been revealed to my knowledge.

*looks at avatar* Someone discovered Sunstone.

I'd like someone else to confirm this, because reading Forever Evil stuff on other boards I've heard people say that
the reboot had already un-adopted Dick Grayson and distanced his relationship to Bruce Wayne in such a way that the revealing of his identity doesn't have NEARLY the same implications as it would have had it occurred prior to the reboot.
Can anyone confirm or comment on that?

Dick Grayson
is still Batman's adopted son. To my knowledge all of them still are (Dick, Jason, Tim). They were all part of the family painting, as seen being painted in one of the earlier issues of Snyder's Batman.

Yeah, im definitely more tied to the characters than the creators. Hell, I enjoyed the new 52 Deathstroke run when if you looked at it compared to other stuff it was kinda not good from a writing standpoint.

The first 8 issues were awesome. Should have just been a miniseries though.

I absolutely do love certain creators. When I went to ECCC last year I had Ron Marz sign my first five issues of Voodoo (Sami Basri, where are you, I need your art brah).

Really wanted to see where Marz was going to take that book. lol damn DC sure did drop that whole Daemonites thing.

No. The current storylines has
their relationship 'strained' because of Death of the Family, but Grayson is very much linked with Bruce Wayne.

I know I already said as much, but DC's current creator/editorial rift really really smells like Bob Harras.

Remember when Mark Waid/Ron Garney were kicked off their critically acclaimed Cap run for this?:

cap.jpeg

Remember when, shortly after the abomination above was rectified, Waid was driven off the book again due to editorial interference on this and other issues?

6023_4_014.jpg

Remember when Chris Claremont was driven off the X-Men when he helped build the franchise from near cancellation to the biggest property in comics over the course of 17 years?

Remember when Louise Simonson was driven off of New Mutants in favour of Rob Liefeld (who then ditched Marvel a couple of years later).

Remember when the X-Books continued to be shit for like a decade due to editorial mandates, even with talented people like Alan Davis, Steven Seagle, Joe Kelly, Carlos Pachelo and Chris Bachalo on board?

Any of the above sound familiar?

Also, New Avengers recently showed us that the Living Tribunal, who is supposed to maintain balance in the Marvel Multiverse, is dead.

(sorry if this ends up being a double post, but this has nothing to do with my previous post thematically)

I am as subtle as a sledgehammer

:D

It's a really good comic, though. They explain the BDSM scene in a way that makes it pretty easy to understand. And Sejic always puts out amazing work.

Also, has anyone read the old Mystique series from a few years back? I know it's out in two Ultimate Collections, and I'm kind of on a Mystique kick at the moment. Worth reading?

I don't think "infinity" is the big crossover- I think it's just the warm up.

I wonder if Age of Ultron, Infinity, Inhuman(ity?), and the rumoured Aaron/Remender/JRjr event are all buildups to an even bigger thing. On one hand, that's kind of exciting, but jesus that would be exhausting as fuck too.

It isnt even hard to get into, just google some stuff.

is it weird that a lot of people say google when they mean search something nowadays? or is that just me.

Well, that's a little bit vague. I mean, remember how google image-search turned out in the comic? I wouldn't really know what to look for.
