Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Well, apparently they did see the issues, hence battle damage is not in it. I would argue it has no place in Smash Bros. and adds nothing.

Battle damage fits in with games that are a bit more down to earth in their violence, but seeing Mario's overalls get scuffed up and cut or something in the middle of something as overtly cartoony as Smash Bros. would take me out of the experience. The rules of Smash Bros. are so above and beyond different from the real world that emphasizing real world implications seems diametrically opposed to the entire point of the titles.

And no, the Master Sword breaking is nonsense. It's completely out of character for it.

I dunno i do not think most people would notice, or care. I play games and watch things where cartoony stuff gets scuffed up all the time. Doesnt make me think its less of a cartoon, sorry I cannot understand that mindset. I do not see how that would even do that, that just sounds like stobbornees "cartoons must be cartoons," sounds boring

Also, it isnt nonsense, the master sword was made for magical enemies on links planet. The magical beings on links planet could know fuck all about aliens. SO if if fox could shoot a hole through links shield because his shield was made for gannon dorf and not for thousands of years of technilogical advancment, or i dunno kirby bing able to sick up link and take his powers despite not being the chosen one, yes that makes sense. Because links legend only applies to links world , outside of that, he is just some blond kid out of his depth.

Not to mention someone like sonic, do you even know the type of power the people in sonic have to have to be able to do the stuff they do, alot. Do you know what what sonic could do to a human body, let alone knuckles or shadow. Scratches on the masersword is the least of his concernes.

Thats like ghost rider exspecting to be able to beat down thanos or galactus with his sin weaponry. HIs only jurisdiction is his planet, when you venture out into other relms ,what works and what doesnt work gets a bit foggy.

Also metaknights sword if i remembering where it comes from correctly probobly could break link's ... everything.

I'd be all for damage on characters as the fight goes on; although it should be optional.I have about eight so far (not counting ones part of Mega Man's page).I think this game will decide whenever or not Ridley will be playable. If he's not in, the majority of the community will have given up on Ridley ever getting in. Smash 3DS and Wii U seems to be a "make or break" point for most characters.

As for Roy, I could see him return. I don't see an Awakening rep as a sure bet or even among the most likely things to happen and I could see Sakurai being content with Marth, Ike and Roy for the next game.

We need a magic user! beside Zelda, maybe the Avatar from Awakening could join.

And yeah, I kinda agree with your point regarding Ridley but it´s true that we need more Metroid reps... sadly there are not that many.

The self-insert from Awakening would make for a good magic user and maybe they could work in some kind of class-change mechanic where he can represent all of FE's signature weapons.

Well then I'm going to have to disagree with you plainly there. I'm an art guy and I like cohesiveness, and what Smash Bros. is able to do, bringing characters and worlds from all sorts of series and bring them together in a way that makes visual cohesive sense (save for in the odd examples like G&W which are intentionally ill fitting) is a wonder. I see the battle damage as completely antithetical to this. It's grounding something that has no business being grounded.

And you really like sticking words in people's mouths. I suggest not doing so in the future.

And I am absolutely not getting into a power tier debate. I believe, quite plainly, that the Master Sword should be represented as it is in Zelda; an unbreakable divine blade. It's one thing to bend established paradigms to facilitate gameplay, it's another to ignore things for superfluous visual effects. I see it like having Samus's bombs damage her; it'd be simply wrong.

Smash Bros. is, at its core, about the representation of the characters. The more you can get away with keeping the character accurate (while still keeping gameplay solid) the better.

I understand your view of the blade but again, to reiterate my point. Mjoilnir is a devine magical hammer given by the gods and only the worthy should be a able to pick it up. many a hulk have lifted that thing out of pure strength. Devine only works one world, or one universe rather, gods do not aplly to other universes. Links sword would should have smashed by now. Because links gods do not know shit about a samus aran, or a star fox, or a meta knight, or a kirby. or a Pit, or Palutenia. They cant just decide it works on everything, they made it to beat a great evil , ganon or vaati , or whoever it is today. They didnt make it to beat up space aliens They have no idea about space aliens.

Its not even a power debate, I just do not agree that someones god, can carry over into another persons universe or world. That is your god, your gods stuff does not apply to anything else. Its like going into someone elses country and expecting the laws to be the same. Why would you even think that? there are always stronger people out there, and there out there, and weapons, espically stronger weapons given by gods on a mideval esque planet.

I think it's completely arbitrary to the discussion, because Smash Bros. isn't a true crossover in a story sense, and never has been. Whether or not the rules would technically apply to the other characters doesn't matter. They're trophies in the trophy world.

Village, is it so hard to accept one's opinion? His reason for not liking the scrapped feature is valid. I mean, I would welcome such a feature but I can see where he is coming from.

I would love to see a character that can change modes in the go!
I know Zelda-Sheik, Pokemon Trainer but I would really like something like this implemented

My only issue is... FemAvatar or Male?

Man... we need news, at least TGS is 2 weeks away :)

Palutena is obviously going to be the new (staff-based) magic user.

Wish granted.

If you are going to play that card then it doesn't matter if links stuff breaks because he is a trophy. I do not see what you are saying.

Yes I accept that he has an opinion, however like opinion. I can argue that validity of it, he can of mine. Which he is. If he doesn't agree with me that is fine, we wont agree and move on to talking about how ridley is too big.

I do not see how some kid from a mideval time with suppoused "gifts from the gods" rules work on people who are so technologically advanced, they can travel though space at lights speeds. I think they could bust up, links armor all up. I do not think it would misrepresent LOZ at all, because the sheer fact that link can fight these space aliens is a compliment. No one I feel will question if one of the many strong members of the smash bros roster, many of them space aliens, could bust up some link armor. These are heroes who have been through many a battle though space and time, I do not honestly see how this is any misrepresentation.

I think they could use both male and female, maybe as a color/costume change. Same with the Villager.

So far the Villager hasn't talked and has a gender-neutral name, so for them at least I can see them putting in a female alt.

I'm 99% confident that the Villager will have a set of female costumes right after the male ones, just like how Wario has separate sets of WarioWare and Wario Land costumes.

He doesn't like it because he feels that it clashes with the general art direction of the series. I don't see what's invalid about that mindset. It makes sense that one would feel that way.

You say you accept his opinion but I'm not seeing proof.

This is the worst argument I've ever seen in my entire life. An argument about the laws of physics interaction between two separate universes in a video game? Please. This argument is inane.

That sounds about right. Two character models: one for the boy and another for the girl.

I understands how he feels but I do not agree. Accepting ones opinion is just that, excepting that have that opinion and respecting their right to have it . Do you have to agree with it? No. Can you even argue it? Yes.

At the end of the day, if the guy doesn't agree, we will just end it and talk about something else. If he wishes to continue , they we will continue.

That's it.

Normally, I would agree it's fine to argue, but it was a really trivial as fuck argument to begin with. Not to mention you're having such a hard time understanding his views. Like... come on son.

But w/e, I'm done with this and moving on.

But guys what about voice files? while in english Villager doesn't give a gender, I guess grunts would have to be... kinda universal right?
Maybe a kid's voice will do the trick (you know JAPAAN and their VA)

I hope for a good pic to finish this week :)

Bowser gets darker, gritty, and hunches over?

Maybe his horns and spikes break along with his shell.

Absolutely agree with everything said here, you put it perfectly. It's completely superfluous in a game like Smash Bros, which is so fast-paced anyway. I feel for games like Mortal Kombat, those kind of things can complement the experience, but in a game like this it just seems wrong - like it could almost cheapen the experience, and also defame these legendary characters that we've all grown up with, even if they are all whacking seven shades of syrup out of each other. This is partly why I think something like MK vs SF will never ever happen. Capcom, and Japanese devs in particular are quite protective over their characters I would say.

Since the game is so fast as well, these things would never be seen enough to be "appreciated", and overall it wouldn't be worth investing time in it for development's sake.

Also this is my first post, I've been lurking this thread since it started but just recently got activated. Hope I can banter with you guys, especially when the news (eventually) starts trickling out faster.

I don't think the main character speaks in any of the Animal Crossing games. It'd be kind of weird to hear him make noises in Smash Bros.

This is a video game forum, a lot of it is trivial , yes.

And to the bolded, that seems to be something you have come up with. I do not agree with, I understand what he is saying. I do not agree. And even If I didn't understand, wouldn't that be a valid reason for arguing? Not understanding the logistics behind the oppositions reasoning.

I know I have said some dumb stuff, but come on son. This is a misunderstanding over how something should work in a video game, do you honestly believe that either of us is putting that much into it? Really? Seriously? We dot agree about the blonds fairies armor should work, you putting far more investment into that we are.

But whatever move on, but for future reference, people can disagree on things. That happens.

Oh, hey. Very good first post! Welcome to GAF!

It's still a stupid argument. There's arguing but then there's arguing just for the sake of arguing. Seriously, who cares?

Why are you telling me this? I didn't fucking say that you have to agree with him.

I say welcome to GAF/Smash GAF.

Yeah, they don't really make noise. For the FE Avatar they could record the same lines for both genders, same for Miis and the grunts they make.

You guys think Sakurai will come up with some brand new mechanics that might slightly change how the game is played (e.g. Brawl's smash balls)? Or do you think he will stick to conventional ways and simply tweak gameplay and introduce new stages, items, and characters?

Kid Icarus Uprising battle modes would be boss. The whole 3rd person perspective, 3D arena's, yada yada.

My idea's suck.

The two arguments I was making have no real bearing on each other. Whether or not I'm willing to see the Master Sword break has nothing to do with if the conflict is "real" or not. I just don't see it as something that should be done. It was you who inputted the story into it.

Ultimately I tire of this, because everyone else is right. It's completely trivial.

You touched on something I don't think I did but meant to--it is kind of defaming in a way that contradicts Smash Bros.

Good first post, hope to see more. Though the talk of lurking makes me realize that there are probably a lot of people out there that are reading my posts but can't talk back. In that case, greetings lurkers.

Sakurai said that he wouldn't do latter one.

I agree with Green Mamba. I don't want visual character damage in Smash. Stuff like that fits on games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, and even Punch-Out, but seeing a battered and bruised Kirby on Smash would be simply disturbing.

I don't think there will be many drastic changes, I hope they focus on refining what they have and the online stuff. Brawl seems like the perfect amount of mechanics without being too complicated.

For fun though it might be cool to have a mode with super bars instead of smash balls.

It's still a stupid argument. There's arguing but then there's arguing just for the sake of arguing. Seriously, who cares?

I do? Because I care about the aesthetic points of smash bros, because I feel video games are art. And smash bros is a specific peice art in which I do enjoy so i would like to tank and argue about what may have been good or bad for the series. So maybe I was arguing because I genuinely disagreed with the person. And This being a smash bros thread would probably be the most opportune place to voice that opinion. People put different amounts of stock in different things, if you Is stupid fine, I dont. So... yeah... life... and stuff. I am not some being who feeds on the wrath of the internet, i believe in a thing. And am willing to argue it.

Why are you telling me this? I didn't fucking say that you have to agree with him. Now you're putting words into my mouth.

Yet you continue to tell me I do not understand his argument when I clearly do. So clearly you want me to do something?

That's fine, you have a great day. For whats its worth, I do understand how you feel.

Yet you continue to tell me I do not understand his argument when I clearly do.

Fair enough. I still stand by that I feel it was completely pointless and trivial argument, but I'll stop while I'm ahead since everyone is already sick of this. Good day to you.
