Well saying that other industries also do it doesn't mean it's not an issue. Possibly it's an issue for those industries as well. But having said that I think what we are seeing in the gaming industry is far and beyond what you see in cinema or even music. You don't frequently see in mainstream Hollywood movies such extreme depictions of straight male-gaze wish fulfillment as we are seeing in these games like DOA, that Japaneses action-RPG, MGS5 Bayonetta etc

I dunno, as long we have dev teams like Naughty Dog pushing strong female characters who aren't sexualised, I'm perfectly happy having the other side present too.

Yes, we do have those and sexualised representation of humans has been a tradition in human literature for a very long time. So on the one hand maybe it's not an issue. But I think it's the scale of it now that marks it out as a phenomenon worthy of criticism.

Plenty of people on here seem to have a big problem with anyone daring to question it.

I know this may be hard but try to look beyond your own world view and look at a situation objectively. Just because something "works for me" doesn't mean you should not examine it in a wider context of other differing world views.

In all fairness to 343, Cortana has always been a nude blue woman with weird patterns on her. It's just the fact that with the evolution of polygons and what have you, she looks like an actual woman rather than a funny cartoon girl. What did you all want them to do? Make her look less human? Sure they probably made her a bit more curvy and whatnot but it's not like they overhauled her design.

In Ellis's defense, he didn't creat Cortana's character, it was made by manbabies at Bungie for very similar reasons to why Kojima made up a stripper sniper.

Agains Ellis though, they did sex-up Cortana with porn actress boobs, pouting lips and obviously suggestive crotch area that eerily reminds (at least me) of pubic hair.

I'd say any slasher horror movie (of which there are a ridiculous amount of) is going to fall in line with those games that you mentioned. They always have women running around in very revealing clothing for no particular reason. Teen comedies in many ways are the same. And at one point the single most popular show in the world was Baywatch. A show whose entire existence was solely for people to watch women run around in bikinis, often times in slow motion just so you don't miss the bouncing. Yet that was good enough to boost it to being incredibly successful.
