We're so used to DC monumentally fucking up that every single stupid thing they do seems cataclysmic, even when it's this tiny thing about a script page provided without any context.

They've certainly earned their haters, but that means blowing things out of proportion every once in a while.

I read the Black Bolt: Something Inhuman This Way Comes one-shot that was released a little bit ago. Well, they called it a one-shot but it was more of a collection at 100 pages. It's 70s Inhumans stuff. Really dug it for the most part and I'd never read any Inhumans before.

Palmiotti was doing his best to defend it on Twitter, saying you can't judge 4 panels out of context. I guess with the dialog Harley is breaking the 4th wall and complaining about the situations the creators are putting her in.
 
Seeing people mention Annihilation so much these last few pages really makes me want to go back and re-read it again. Damn I love that story. Conquest, too. The Super-Skrull miniseries was brilliant. Nova absolutely crushing Iron Man with like two sentences. That double page splash. Quasar and Moondragon. So good.

The later cosmic stuff was the first time I'd read anything involving the Inhumans and I loved them immediately. Black Bolt especially, there's just something about that guy. I'm really looking forward to seeing how Inhuman/Inhumanity turn out.

Abnett & Lanning's cosmic run was what got me into comics in the first place, but I have no interest in Marvel's current cosmic books. A shame.

A bit of a change of pace, but has anyone here read Scalped? I heard it was good so I picked up the first trade but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. Part of me wants to get all 10 trades and read it all in one go, would that be a sensible idea?

[Edit] That Suicide Squad page is fucking gross.

I feel like I need to read those comics again. I remember feeling they were less "cosmic" stories and more war comics in space, but who knows. Annihilation and War of Kings were cool.
 
The worst part is the book was PRETTY GOOD at dealing with the Harley stuff up to that point. Like, she cared about him and tried to steal his face back from the police, but it was never at the expense of making her a cool character that moved on from that time in her life and was just cool and smart and funny the way she should be. But then, those two fucking turds drop, cut the story mid-momentum, do this shit and then never get referenced ever again.

I am reading the 2nd volume right now and I am very let down to hear that this happens.

I read the first volume months ago and it's haunting the shit out of me. Yes, I would say buy it and read it all up. And then send it to me.

That seems like the classic Joker/Harley dynamic to me.

What's the problem?
 
I mean, the Harley/Joker relationship has always been the "abusive GF who's fine until she contacts the BF" thing. (See: the animated series.) That's just a super-harsh version of it.

In SS she seems to have moved on even dealing with his 'death' and then they bring that back again...

Yea but it still could have been handled a hell of a lot better. TAS did a good job with it, but that's probably because it's their character.
 
Scalped is my favorite comic book series. It is a very heartbreaking and emotional story. Aaron did a great job writing every single character. I'm excited for Southern Bastards because I'm getting a Scalped vibe from it.

I should clarify that when I say "cosmic", I just mean that they were set in space with mostly space-based characters. It's a convenient shorthand for me, for that whole run from Annihilation through to the Nova/Guardians Of The Galaxy books, War/Realm Of Kings and Thanos Imperative. Probably should have explained that better. I agree though, there was a definite war tone in Annihilation.

[Edit] Thanks La Maquinon and sazabirules for the replies. I think "haunting" and "heartbreaking" are more than enough to convince me to pick up the whole run. The trades are pretty cheap these days as well which is nice. It seems like it'll be a good way to help balance out all my cape comics, plus I can't resist 10 trades worth of Jock covers.

I have a feeling Harley cover will be doomed at my shop, its the one I wanted most I guess. I still haven't tried any Suicide Squads yet so I probably deserve it.

Some thoughts:

Forever Evil #1: I really enjoyed this first issue. There is mystery left from the cliffhanger of Trinity War, but the impression of the state of the world is an exciting one. It feels like the calm before the storm. Moments of disbelief before realization sets it. Looking forward to seeing how the remaining heroes attempt to combat this new status quo.

Green Lantern: Relic - I already thought that Relic seemed like an interesting villain but this issue gives him a motivation that actually makes him seem much less of a bad guy and more like a grimly determined individual out to stop something bad from happening. Bonus props for mentioning
The Source Wall
. The implications for the Lantern Corps and the upcoming Light's Out miniseries have me really curious about where they are going to take Cosmic DC.

Superman: Darkseid - Gotta disagree with you Tim, I didn't mind this new origin for Darkseid. Has a very mythological feel to it, like something out of a Greek drama. Bonus props for including
The Origin of Highfather as Darkseid's brother in law.

Legends of the Dark Knight #12: Loved it. You weren't kidding, Korupt, that first issue is a fascinating character study of The Batman as an entity opposite the Rogues Gallery he battles.

Nope, hadn't seen that one. But
the end of the 3rd chapter essentially tells us they get married
more talking about just some of the random costume stuff and characters in situations I was not expecting. Think I will be staying clear of that folder lol.

Eh, I am quite sensitive to spoiler stuff in most things. I kind of would rather not see anything until I am reading it. then again, it was massively my fault. I read that bleeding cool article yesterday and didnt put 2 ans 2 together lol.

I think all of those look fantastic.

Edit: I also just read Itty Bitty Hellboy. I got a few chuckles out of it but the odd thing is it may as well not be a Hellboy comic. The characters bring very little to it. Unlike say Lil Gotham which has lots of personality. Maybe it will change over time.

Oh I also read Lil Gotham #5, As per usual I feel sorry for Mr Freeze. Fun little comic though, will look into getting the others. There was a previous run of Lil Gotham or am I thinking of something else?

edit: Seems I am remembering incorrectly. I just remember reading the first two issues of this series. Good stuff.
 
Whoa, that Joker issue really was horrible.

Loved seeing Spidey 2099. But I think its starting to feel like Spock has run its course.

I know! Rafael has wrote and illustrated 2 things now and they both were quality. He did the American Vampire One-shot a month or two ago and now this. Dude has the chops to write as well.
 
It's sad this does not surprise me.

Marv Wolfman to be taking over Superboy as of #26 (December issue). Complete the transition and give him Teen Titans as well, DC.

Also, Tony Bedard on Supergirl as of #26. He did New Guardians and in the past, Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes towards the end. Could be interesting.
