Where are they at exactly?

this one, right?

If you think flash is an easier, or better, AE taunt you don't understand the skill. Flash basically sucks at grabbing threat. The reason why Warriors in pugs are better is because they are actually easier to play in pugs because they have actual damaging skills that do threat. The only AE skill that Paladins get is Flash...everything else is single target. Holding on to multiple target threat is far easier on a Warrior than a Paladin.

My understanding of Flash is from just leveling a Gladiator up to 17 on Live and 20something on Beta, so it is rather limited, but from what I've played I never found Flash to suck at grabbing the initial threat, which is what I find most important as a healer (so I can start healing without getting mobbed).
But that aside, by easier I meant the fact that Flash is MP based and not TP based, and the fact that other than having the mobs in range, Flash doesn't require real positioning.

Having watched some later game PvE makes me want this game a lot more. It doesn't seem all that different from WoW but that's fine with me.

I really want digital sales to come back soon. I have the itch, man.

I have come to the conclusion that Titan HM is nearly impossible as a pug.

This makes me think of pokemon :) I've had pretty mixed experiences with pugs, as i'm sure everyone else has too. It's possible to have fantastic experiences where everyone is willing to learn or already knows the needed strategies. Personally I prefer learning the strategies in the dungeon but I understand some people have very limited time and want to be successful sooner rather than later.

Edit: haha I read pug as 'pick up group' as in duty finder... but i see now you're talking about pug the punching kind.

so whats the problem with PUG/MNK? I am trying to make PUG/MNK as my second job, but been hearing how it is difficult to get proper damage compared to other DPSs.

Wow. Got to 45 on fate farming.

FYI for Sarg. We killed Chimera @ 10:46pm EST. He popped one hour and 17 minutes later. Not sure what time we killed him, I'd say ~10 min la ter if you wanted to try and farm him tonight.

Uh, nothing wrong with Monk? It gets more when positioned from behind but it's pretty solid without it.

Is it possible to do amdapoor keep in the duty finder, or is it bugged?

I seem to get this for quite awhile whenever I queue for it. Seems like it sits at a full group then after awhile it says someone withdrew from the queue (but it never told me I could join!)

I'm a tank queueing by myself so I'm kind of confused.

how do I do tradecraft leves? Every town I go there are no quests in tradecraft leve scection. Do I have some prerequisite to unlock tradecraft leves? I do have lvl 13 weaver.

Completed the main story.

The last dunegon is great and probably the most exciting one, filled with incredible boss battles and some other fun sections.

[ending spoilers main plot]

Is that Tidus, Zell and Lightning at the end? lol

Got a nice mage coat from the Aiatar chest at the end of Brayflox Longstop. Hope I can use it till AF, because it looks awesome.

OK so I finally logged into the game for the first time and played a couple of hours. It feels like an amazing game, but I am a so confused...

- I wanted my starter city to be Limsa Lominsa, so I started as an Arcanist (the guy with Carbuncle) but it seems there are White Mage and Black Mage jobs? I didn't see that from the character selection. Do these jobs branch out? If so what's the closest to a Red Mage similar to Final Fantasy 11? Also is there a subjob system like FF11?

- I am on PS3, but have a keyboard to type stuff. How do you target an enemy quickly or cycle through enemies? I keep attacking enemies that don't aggro me or takes me a while to target the one who is attack me. I remember in FF11 there was a key on the keyboard that made you target enemies and not other players/npc's

- The focus seems heavy on the solo experience. I bought an MMO, I want to play with others and level up in parties like in FF11. I already reached level 10 in a couple of hours just doing quests...Is parties only for endgame stuff? Cause right now I don't see a reason to party up with others, especially for leveling up

I have a lot more stuff I am confused about, but this would be a good start to get some questions answered :)

1. http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Category:Disciplines
2. First 3 dungeons are at level 15. There's also tons of story required dungeons as well.

Ive been personally running around with it on my 50 BLM while doing story quests. Probably not too wise for the final few, but eh.

There are classes and jobs. You can take up a job once you have it's main job at 30, and sub job at 15.

For example, Arcanist, which you started as can become a Summoner at level 30 so long as you also have Thaumaturge at level 15 (you will be able to change classes after completing your starter job's level 10 job quest). Arcanist is also the only class so far that can branch out twice and you can also go Scholar if you have a 15 Conjurer.

There are a lot of quests, and EXP is good, however, if you use all the quests now, you can't on other jobs. Partying up for dungeons, and Fates are helpful in leveling up without quests.

As for your control questions, I am unfamiliar with PS3 controls.

I'm not really having fun yet... Just a couple hours in. All MMOs kinda start like this, right?

It's terribly slow at the beginning, especially if you follow all the sidequest markers, the first 15 levels are pretty much one really long tutorial showing you where everything is.

So I'm playing on a server I will not name. One of the new ones because friends went there. GAF... please be happy you are on Ultros. I'm not one to judge people by their names, but wow I can not get over the difference between this world and Ultros.

Some examples:
Hampster Mcruff
Delicious Cutie
Money Packioeh
Booooooooooom Boooooooom
Lol rofl

I swear these types of names are what I see here 98% of the time. It makes me worry for the future of the server lol. I'm kind of joking but kind of not.

There's bad names on all servers. Add to that the billion Final Fantasy related names.

They need to have a giant battle event with all the Game of Thrones characters. There's enough of them to do big Fates with.

Thanks. I had expected it, but its still a bummer. I'm sure it's all worth it later though.

BTW, Ultros was full when I made my character. How can I check to see if there's space yet? I might as well restart sooner rather than later.

Oh I have no doubt there is. I played up until level 35 on Ultros so I seen a fair amount of people there. Just comparing it to this one isn't even close.

I guess my point is I think most of the more "mature" players found a home early. Maybe I'm overreacting.

Controller folks, how do you handle targeting? Especially with fates, with 5 million characters on screen?

I hit A and half the time I end up targeting someone else's Carbuncle.

I see a lot of people complaining about tab targetting but I don't think most people realise it prioritises heavily what's at the centre of the screen.

Just aim the camera, hit A/X, fire some skills or hit A/X again to confirm auto-attack, hit B/O to cancel target and repeat. But yeah, carbuncles are a pain because the game prioritises NPCs for dialogue stuff by default, and carbuncles are considered NPCs or something.

I liked the challenge, but the difficulty definitely went up over the last two dungeons. The hardest part of the boss was getting the SMN and CNJ to not stand next to each other.

I have not been impressed with many summoners I have seen. Coming off being main Summoner on FFXI for years, my biggest pet peeves so far are summoners who seem to forget they can heal themselves. While certainly not meant to be a main heal, it's certainly helpful to at the very least heal yourself after AOE moves

I hope they introduce a reporting feature soon - freaking annoyed about teleporting gathering bots
edit: nevermind there is already one..

Cavalry Trousers still haven't dropped for me even after 20+ plus runs. Damn loot drops. Thankfully the pugs group I've ran with have been great.

I have no issue 90% of the time, it's just the fates. A mob is usually surrounded by 10 people so it's hard to target even if I'm pointing in the middle.

The best way I found was to hold down crossbar toggle and use L1/R1.
Oh, didn't know that. Will try it next.

Whew, it dropped me right back at the boss, and the pick up party was waiting on me :)

That being said, I kinda felt a rush mentality coming from them (didnt get to read the notes in totorak lol) and they seemed really quiet. Imo nothing worse than a quiet first time dungeon run.

We worked pretty well together though, and finally there is a name to put to the face of that dark mage guy...didnt think he was an
Ascian
though. Thought they were supposed to look like
skeletal grim reaper types
...unless this is just a disguise.

I'm just starting to get into the game. I have no friends though so please add me: the_id.

I'm a newbie to MMOs as well.
