Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn |OT2| Use a security token. Seriously.

I'm this close to level a tank so I can actually progress on the story with my PGL. What's the fastest way to level to 20-ish?

Newb questions time. What does DPS mean exactly? I am a gladiator. Am I DPS or Tank? Throw down some basic tactical knowledge on me.

'DPS' in general MMO lingo means a class whose primary role is dealing damage. DPS stands for damage per second, which I believe stems from other MMOS where damage dealers (DDs) were graded according to damage they theoretically could push out per second.

Marauder, Warrior, Gladiator, Paladin = TANK

Conjurer, White Mage, Scholar = HEALER

Everything else = DPS, or DD, or just hit stuff make it die and use your stuff to help out.

Tried Amdapor but the tank told me I needed better gear for it. :(

Should I just farm 8-mans or keep at Amdapor?

I hate the MMO scene so much. It has changed a lot since the early FFXI days. XIV's community is way, way worse.

Thank god for GAF's FC.

In Tera I used queue up as a tank and then drop the party when we're inside the dungeon. Just kidding. I was a healer, but I fully expect more tanks to be doing this in the near future in this game.

Damage per second, generally referring to classes that excel at putting out damage. As a GLD you're a tank.

DPS= damage per second

Gladiator is a Tank, meaning you have high health and def but lower attack than a dps

Awesome, thanks. Running with a random group we did the first two dungeons. They told me to use flash constantly, so I figured I must be the tank. It's funny not knowing, though.

Definetly like this a lot more now that I'm doing group stuff as opposed to just running around doing random shit by myself to level up.

Honestly it's very strange. It's way worse than FFXI and even worse than WoW and that takes a lot.

I don't understand why.

I feel the same way, but I'm torn between the fact that the monk is the only class with a reasonable global cooldown (what was SE smoking?), or the fact that being stonewalled in quest progression due to instance queues as DPS is fucking awful.

Edit: Oh, Hunting Logs + Fates will get you to your desired level relatively quickly.

Played for a short time today and was able to get the Dragoon job! Haven't had a chance to do anything after that though. Do I get the cool looking armor at 50 or do you get Dragoon-looking armor before that?

That's cool. And I hope you took their advice in good faith (it sounds like you did!). They were helping you out in your (critical) role in the 4-person group. Do some google investigations about tanking in FF14. It's a very important position!. :)

Yeah, I told them I was a newb and that's what they said to do. Didn't mean they kept telling me over and over, just that they told me to constantly use it.

For some reason when I now target a mob it locks in making movement as a ranged dps super annoying. Does anyone know where the setting to change this back is?

Hunting Log 3 (Lancer) - Moondrip Piledriver

Anyone know where these are? I'm at the Footfalls in Western Thanalan right now.

The map is wrong in a sense. Go to vesper bay there should be a long path behind the waking sands. Go to the end of the end of that path until youre in this cave with yellow looking bulb things. There should be a smaller cave to the right where there are some giants.

Thanks! The coordinates are misleading some times.

I can't get into game at the moment (locked out because of losing my security token) but your problem sounds like it stems from the 'auto-lock-on' option. Should be somewhere in your 'Character Options' menu..?

EDIT: If you play on pad, you can toggle that lock-on with L3 by the way. Dunno what the keyboard default bind is.

AK is currently the hardest 4 man dungeon in game and the Demonic Wall is the first gear check for a group in the game.

Would recommend doing Wanderer's Palace and Hard Mode Ifrit to get some good upgrades. Specially if you're a fresh 50.

So when I open the game launcher up the login box on the right side doesn't load, it just gives me a blank spot. Is there a fix for this?

As a GLA tab target changing and combo chain rotation is your friend.

Initiate most pulls with Shield Lob (Earliest range skill GLA get), continue with a Flash as soon as the group of mobs get to you. Start Fast Blade on the focus fire mob and press the tab key to use the combo Savage Blade. Repeat depending on the number of enemies and keep an eye on the focus fire target, since that will be one of the creatures generating more hate to your party because its being focus fire.

So I downsampling 1440p, and have SMAA working through Nvidia Inspector. 780GTX is holding it at 60FPS outside of Aetheryte Plazas and really busy FATEs. Game is drop dead fucking gorgeous.

Just once I'd like my guy to say "I'm an adventurer, I'm trying to save the world so I'm not going to kill your fucking rats just tell me where Titan is already!!!"

Absolutely agree. The fc is the best thing to ever happen socializing wise for me in regards to ffxiv. Had some good groups though outsidr of fc though but yeah won't be taking so kindly to some shlub telling me to skip cutscene. Take that attitude to the footfalls grotto.

FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn |OT2| Naoki Yoshida uses a Phoenix Down... again.

FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn |OT2| I still can't create a character on Ultros

Feel the same way. People really have no business telling other people how to experience the game. If you want to skip all the cut scenes, fine, but do it in a party where all members agree to do that from the start.

Doesn't mean much, but the Japanese community has been pretty fabulous so far. I'm constantly bumping into familiar faces on Durandal and dungeon runs have been great.

Got wiped against Ifrit the first time cause a bunch of us missed the
pillar thing we're supposed to attack
.

The guys with experience weren't even mad about it but instead just laughed and told us what we missed.

I didn't think about something. I can put my Japanese knowledge to good use and run Japanese only dungeons. I'll report back later. *salute
