I'm really considering buying this, but quite honestly, I've been really put off by the reports of login problems so far.

Is it worth the hassle? Or am I best just waiting a little while and seeing how it goes?

Log in issues are pretty much gone now (haven't had issues for a couple of days, and others are reporting the same). The only issue now is creating a new character on a populated server (which should be rectified in a week or so).

Thanks for the tips about equipment! I think I'll just FATE farm for seals and get my equipment from my GC, then. This way I'll kill two birds with one stone: leveling up and getting enough seals for new equipment. How about farming a dungeon for its loot - would you recommend that or is GC stuff still comparable?

I think dungeon gear is a bonus

If you are helping a FC member or just want to run it again for shits n' giggles, it's beneficial to your next class

What I mean is most gear from dungeon isn't a necessity, it's a bonus, if you get it you get it, if you don't move on
Too much random for you to fully deck yourself out in dungeon gear

The good thing with my PLD is now, I can help FC members run dungeons I learned playing as a BLM
Cause I watched from the outside in, now I get to do to the opposite and it's not a tough task

Also all the extra gear that drops for my PLD which I don't need most of the time will be beneficial to my MRD/WAR class
Hell sometimes people pass on the Disciples of War gear and I loot, which in turn will help all those classes when I level them up

My MRD/WAR has gear for 20, 25, 29, 32, 35, 37, 40, 42, 45, 50% is dungeon gear lol

Dungeons really should be used for your next class with your main class to cover either your gil or seals

If I had to do spend gil or use up picking items rather than gil, I wouldn't be hovering around 200K gil
This is me w/o even started mining/crafting, yet...

I also use teleport rarely, so many people burn through their gil to save 10-15 minutes to get to the next point
I maybe a cheapass in that regard, but really, sometimes taking the long way there pays huge dividends

I had to get from Ul'Dah to Mor Dhona, it would have cost me roughly 500+ gil (give or take a few gil)
I said fuck it, lets chocobo it

So Central Thanlaan I started my journey, just as I reached Eastern Thanlaan zone, FATE pop, level 14 Doomed Toad, level sync, get 4k xp for PLD, a 100+ seals
Eastern Thanlaan, just get to Highbridge, Assault on HB takes place, join in on the fray, get close to 30K, 500+ seals, just as that finishes, the Hare one (Gossamer) pops, do that, get 10k+ XP and 150+ seals
Enter South Shroud, nothing
Enter Central Shroud run into a level 9 Diremite FATE, get silver, got there with 50% done
Enter North Shroud, get close to Coerthas zone, FATE pops for Golems and turning in their cores, do it get gold. Just as I finish that the rabbit/hare one pops at the zone line next to the lookout area, do that, zone into Coerthas
Just as I make my turn for Mor Dhona, Tower of Power FATE activates/appears, get Gold, and I reach Mor Dhona

It took me 25 minutes, but in turn, I earned 50K XP, at least 2000 Seals and maybe 500 Gil
Which to me looks good rather than insta-porting to the objective
So the 500 gil I could have spent to get me there quick, I used as a stroll which adventured me a nice netting

I do it often, only use teleporting if real necessary and even then not to the direct point always to my fave destination point

Gridania - Quarrymill
Limsa Lominsa - Costa del Sol
Ul'Dah - Eastern Thanlaan

They are always cheaper than the airship amount
Sometime landing Costa there are FATE's always up, same goes for QMill

It may not look beneficial to most, but sometimes just going the long route pays huge dividends, while the shortcut might move you faster but broke in the process

What's the difference between a Free Company and a Linkshell? Is the linkshell the same as from FF11? If so then whats a free company?

Free Company: FFXIV version of a guild. A collection of members.
Linkshell: Basically they're seperate chat channels.

Do you know if they'll do server transfers for free once these issues are gone?

You can only be in one FC, this in where you get a small 5% bonus if your Guild has ranked up to the requirement to allow this
This is your main channel to find people to do stuff with

Linkshells are social chat channels, you can have up to 10 LS's
So you can go chat with them, even party up through them, but you get no benefit out of a LS, it's just a social thing

I'm not sure if SE will allow a free server transfer, but giving one free for anyone who registered around the launch period would be nice. The transfer system is set to roll out later this month.

Awesome stuff, thanks! Good idea on saving Gil from teleporting all over the place. It seems way more fun to travel about and partake on some FATEs along the way.

Of course, I wouldn't do all that without my mount =p

If you want to do Tam-Tara tonight with me then just let me know!
Name is Lisie Valtaire, feel free to add me :) It'll be my first time in there

Sorry, I disconnected soon after my last post! It's not very late in Japan but I'm recovering from a big party and work tomorrow morning, so I'll have to pass...

If you don't do it today, just tell me ;)

Server transfers start at the middle of September if you follow what they said for a fee, never free

They also said they will look at very heavily populated servers and not try to add everyone into them just cause they are overpopulated

Okay thanks just wondering as it would be nice to transfer back to the GAF server in the future.

Playing with a good tank is a bliss. Had one last night, he would constantly face us so he knew what was going on, marked every enemy accordingly which made it so much easier since I knew who to sleep. It was a fantastic team overall with an awesome archer and a very good healer. Best part? It was Duty Finder. Yep. Fantastic :P!

how is the economy on Ultros? I've heard that there isn't enough gil to go around on most fresh servers, and people are losing too much money from gear repairs.

You must have grouped with me then lol

Why does he need to go back to Aurum Vale for other relics?

edit.

Sorry, you are right, I had a mental lapsus.

The reason we did AV was because this guy didn't have AK access, for some reason I was thinking Mistress was still a requirement.

I actually feel better now about not having to go back to AV ever again.

The time you spend waiting on duty finder should instead be used making a party on your server (ideally with your FC and LS). The results are bound to be better.

Unfortunately it's not always possible, though as people catch up in my FC it becomes easier. Neogaf LS usually doesn't respond at all when I ask for people as well...so duty finder it is!

So I just beat Aurum Vale.

And I never wanna go thru that ever again.

Tanking that was nothing but pure stress.

I ran it for the first time last night and it went very smoothly, so don't get too worried based on a single run. A good party makeup can be all the difference. My first time in Haukke Manor, I thought I was done tanking forever. Every subsequent trip I managed to surgically destroy the whole place :)

With regard to Aurum Vale, it definitely felt like there was more of an emphasis on all party members being aware of their current enmity level. It may be worth mentioning that to your party if you try it again.

damn I didn't know this bit:

n ARR, gaining crafting exp and levels comes through the successful synthesis of items. However, you can try to squeeze as much EXP out of a single item each time you craft. (Often granting +200% bonuses and more!) How do you do it? By attempting for a high quality item each time. Take a look at these two examples.

The above example shows crafting two of the same items, “Ash Lumber”. One was quickly crafted without attempting to for high quality, which only got 298 experience. The second example, while it did not yield a high quality ash lumber, the resulting craft gained a bonus +233% exp.

So when you’re crafting, always try to reach the highest quality percent possible, since crafting in a Realm Reborn seems to reward “effort”.
