PS VITA TV announced (~$100, Vita set top box - as in it has no screen - for TVs)

The idea is to play the PS4 if the PS4 is being used by someone else in the household.

PS4 is being used by parents in living room to watch Netflix.

No problem PSVita TV in your bedroom streams PS4 game to your TV while they use the PS4 to watch a movie.

No they are using the Vita TV. The TV is being hogged so you can't play the PS4 in the living room. Vita TV IN YOUR room will capture PS4 signal and put it in your TV without having to move the PS4 into your room.

How can it be that small?
Imagine a Vita. Now remove all controller hardware, including the touchpad behind. Remove the touchscreen display. Remove the battery.

That's how.

But seriously guys, how the hell this works with touchscreen and touchpad enabled games?

I think the point is, Sony isn't trying to get you to buy the hardware.

Whether its the Vita or Vita TV, you are going into the Playstation Store to buy Sony content. It's about that store now.

And hopefully that means improved services across the board.

Completely blindsided by this. Add it to the' "One last thing" thread.

I'm totally buying this. I can't wait to play some of my Vita games on the TV. I kinda stopped playing them, but this will get me to go back and finish them, plus then I can play some of my PSP games too! :D

Edit: It also streams PS4 to the TV I'm using? Guess I won't need to buy a PS4 anytime soon. My cousin is gonna get one. I'll just stream my games that I buy from his console when he's off at school. Lol

For the west this could be a decent hit considering the price and portable gaming not being a thing here so I hope it's announced too.

I'm importing 2 when this comes out. So excited

This could be huge for Japan, where traditional consoles are not what they used to be (and really bad for the Wii U), but are we sure this will ever see the light of day outside of Japan?

lack of touch compatibility is a little worrying. if there's no solution to that for the vita-tv then i guess developers flat out won't use the touchscreen function for fear of losing potential sales from vita-tv owners.

then again if they have ds4 compatibility then it would all work out

I'll still use my Vita for Vita games

But PS4 remote play sounds fucking exciting - never unplugging consoles again, just taking VitaTV with you and you're ready; cool

Sony makes money on software not hardware.

Sony doesn't care how many vita's are sold. Hardware doesn't sell for a profit.

It is half the price of a Vita. Could do pretty good, considering it plays PSP, PSONE and Vita games.
They're still selling the HW and even rolling out a new model so I don't think that helps them.
Not really the same thing.
I think you mean they're set to grow the install base of the Vita platform significantly.
I could see SW sales going up for certain games but anything more than that depends on a lot.
Game Boy Player launched for $50 in 2003, when the GBA SP was still retailing for $100.
For that you have to buy a Gamecube as well and most people didn't care to own one over a PS2.
People buying vitas are people playing it on the go.
There are quite a few Vita owners who bought it solely for the games and would rather play it on TVs.

Remote play compatible!?

Fantastic, this is something I was hoping for from the start, a second PS4 for just $100. The Vita decode block is more than capable of handling a 720p stream, hopefully they don't gimp this box and they allow it to output Remote play content at 720p and it'll be perfect.

Remote PS4 on any TV, playable with a proper PS4 controller? Now that's amazing. I hope we are on the verge of a lagless future, because Sony's vision is just so good.

So...just how many TV service apps work on the vita and hence this? I know of Crunchyroll, and I guess netflix does.

It'll drive up software sales, which is all that really matters, but it doesn't inspire much confidence in Sony's devotion to handheld gaming hardware both now and going into the future.

Games like Uncharted, Killzone & Gravity Rush would probably get patched in with non-touch features, but yeah, some games will definitely not be able to do it. ( like Tearaway )

Uncharted GA and Gravity Rush on a big screen would be terrible anyway. Can't imagine the size of those jaggies.

This could be huge for Japan, where traditional consoles are not what they used to be (and really bad for the Wii U), but are we sure this will ever see the light of day outside of Japan?

I hope so, it fits right into the streaming box ecosystem perfectly with that price.

So bought. Great move Sony, great move. You got yourself a winner right there. A Netflix device that plays games that look good....At an amazing price..This is nuts.

PS4 streaming is brilliant and I will get one just to be able to play my PS4 games on other TV's in the house. A bit of a missed opportunity to not allow DS4 usage for PS1/PSP/PSVita games though.

If it's a $100 I'll buy it when it's in NA. It looks awesome. Especially for someone like me that doesn't have a Vita yet (though it's good if you have a Vita too obviously).

Its almost as if Sony just announced the PS2.5

Amazing.

Im going to be poor this Fall so this might actually be exactly what I need to hold me over until my wallet is ready for next-gen. Best part is, itll do cool things with the PS4!

Time to start picking up dirt cheap Vita games..

Forgive my ignorance, but if you own a PS3 or PS4, why would you buy this if you can't use it as it was intended, as a handheld?

I'll still use my Vita for Vita games

But PS4 remote play sounds fucking exciting - never unplugging consoles again, just taking VitaTV with you and you're ready; cool

Yep, if I can take this thing to a friends house instead of the PS4 I'd be in heaven. Even more so if I could do local Cc-op with it somehow...

Damn you slow internets!!!
