Ant Man moved up to Summer 2015

Just because they were false at the time, doesn't mean there isn't some fire to it. We already know that Abrams is under crunch time. There are saturation issues when you dump all three into an already packed summer. It's not like Summer of 2015 is dead. Again they could have easily pushed back Ant Man to some time in mid November or early December, it's telling when they move it up to a packed summer.

They moved it up because it was opening against Bond. Moving it later in November, or even early December would have it run into Finding Dory.

There is zero truth to Star Wars being delayed. It's all on the first page of this thread...

Better running into Finding Dory then running into Batman vs Superman. If they release BvsS mid July, then Ant Man is going to get wrecked if it comes out late July. Summer is already oversaturated. They might try and release Ant Man in August or very early September but no way in hell are all three coming out in May, June, and July.

You don't think a Batman/Superman movie will do a billion? It can be an absolute shitfest and its still going to do a billion.

The main question here, is will Superman V Batman devastate everything in its' path, leading to Ant-Man's inevitable failure. Man of Steel had a great, $160M opening, there's no denying that. But it sank to 6th place by its' third weekend. More than enough room for new films to prosper - even ones that crossed over with MoS' core demographic.

In other words, a sequel to Man of Steel isn't going to have a stranglehold on the charts for three straight weeks.

Death Proof, yeah. Basterds and Django? Hahaha, no.

"Hahaha no?" Are you serious? I really enjoy Taratino's movies, but Edgar Wright's output is not "Hahaha, no" in comparison. Shaun of The Dead, Hott Fuzz, and The World's End are all great movies, and Scott Piglrim, while admittedly being a bit more divisive, is still extremely well made.

If Edgar Wright is allowed to do his thing, Ant Man could be a ton of fun.

Ant Man is the first 'new brand' in Marvel's cinematic continuity since the beginning of Phase 1, so putting it in the summer, so close to the inevitable high of Avengers 2 (unless things go horribly wrong) honestly makes sense.

Yeah, it being so close to Batman/Superman is dangerous, but I don't doubt that there'll be a bunch of fans ready and clammoring for Phase 3 news by the end of Avengers 2...

Guardians of the Galaxy?

They are.

Well we'll find out. Pirates and World's Finest, both guaranteed to break clean up, have to fit in there as well and there is no reason to crunch all three.

Depends on when they release it, also remember that chances are the sequel will do much better. It's got theaters on lock for a guaranteed two weeks.

I think that some of you may not realize that Finding Dory, Pirates V, Ant Man, Avengers 2, and Episode VII are all owned by the same company and they can always move stuff around up till the last minute until they have a good fit.

Actually outside of Jurassic Park 4 and Superman vs. Batman are there any major movies coming out from rival studios? Well I guess Independence Day 2 lol

At the same time, Disney is used to having consecutive monthly releases. Hell this year alone:

March: Oz
Late April/May: Iron Man 3
June: Monsters University
July: Lone Ranger
August: Planes
November: Thor 2
November: Frozen
December: Saving Mr. Banks

And that's excluding the Touchstone movies that are just Dreamworks.

2014 and 2015 have even more.

Yea I missed the rival part. Oh well, those are pretty much the major movies that are tentatively planned for summer of 2015.

They aren't tentative. Disney had set dates for all of them:

March 13th: Cinderella
May 1st: Avengers
Memorial Day (likely the 21st): Star Wars
June 19th: Inside Out
July 10th: Pirates
July 31st: Ant Man
November 25th (Thanksgiving): Finding Dory

Yea that schedule is going to change depending on when Batman decides to come out.

Fairly "obscure" comic character (unknown to most of the audience), Edgar Wright making a big budget superhero movie, and in general the Marvel universe expanding is so much fun to watch (GOTG looks great).

A lot of things I would have never thought could happen are going down, and in Ant Man's case it seems to be happening in the best way possible.

yeah im sure most thought ant man would be an Avengers character if that proved successful but hey Stan Lee called it i guess.

That sucks for Wright. Shit is going to get sandwiched between more familiar franchise fair. I don't want to see Wright get another bomb under his belt for a big studio. He's a director that I need studios to keep giving money to.

All they need to do is tie it into the larger universe in the trailers, draw a relation to the Avengers, and bam! Asses on seats.

Guardians of the Galaxy will prove this theory.

Releasing the same weekend as Bond would have been better?

What is the budget for this film? Would be hilarious if they spend Superman or Avengers money on it.
All of their movies minus the Iron Man sequels and Avengers (for obvious reasons) have been done in the $140-$150m range. I wouldn't expect this to be any different.

I read GAF everyday and I have no fcuking idea what Ant Man is. Who thought this is a good idea?
It will make more sense once you see it. Plus Ant-Man has a little more clout with kids since he was such a big part of the recent Avengers cartoon (before they changed it).

Sent to die with that date. Too close to B/S just two weeks later. After Avengers and B/S, the biggest names out there, do you really think audiences will be clamoring for something called Ant Man the same summer? August or September would be better, but I just think making a Ant Man solo movie is incredibly dumb. Should have just been part of Avengers.

Sandwiched between what? It's in Superman/Batman's third weekend and nothing has been dated for August yet (which is a never big blockbuster month anyway). It's a hell of a lot better than opening opposite Bond.

Exactly. The movie would be DOA in its original release date. Disney was smart to move it a couple weeks after Batman/Superman.

Fucks sake this is so irritating. I have no doubt Ant-Man will probably be the highest quality film Marvel have put out, but this is suicidal, and disrespectful to Wright. Does this suggest big name casting for Ant Man/
Men
or what?

How is it suicidal moving it to three weeks after Man of Steel 2?

You think MoS2's run will be over by then? And that no other movies will release in that time period?

someone else said it earlier, but Man of Steel had dropped to sixth place in its third weekend. The inclusion of Batman in the sequel will help things, but more than likely, the movie will still be pretty front-loaded and still do its biggest business in the first two weeks.
