How easy/intuitive is it to find people to party up with? I really like Guild Wars 2 because it was easy to party up with or work together in events and whatnot.

It's interesting because you have the GW2 type open world stuff which people constantly form parties for, and then you have the WoW type dungeons which rely on the holy trinity of tank, healer and DPS and are really pretty rigid and old-fashioned.

Man, I hope I can find people who are willing to run some of those 50 dungeons with me normally when I get back from my trip. The stories I've been reading about rushing and angst just make it all sound so terrible, especially for a first runthrough.

Might not be nearly as bad depending on when they allow duty find with local server only characters and the hopes that a lot of these players won't be on after their free trial is over.

Edit: I know a ton of people in the FC have also finished the main story and would be happy to help out, myself included.

The PvE content is very solo-unfriendly. You have to do dungeons to advance your story and there aren't enough quests to get a character to level cap the first time, let alone subsequent times. If you are interested in gathering, that's like an entire game in itself, but you need to do the PvE content anyway to unlock the leve NPCs.

Having to do a trial battlecraft leve in order to unlock all the leves at a particular location is one of the most irritating things to me about ARR. It's not even a big deal to me since I have a 50 WAR, but it just shouldn't be an impediment in the first place.

That actually sounds like what I'm looking for. I really disliked the dungeons in GW2 (at least at launch) because they just end up being really difficult clusterfucks with no strategy, and people getting mad at each other because they don't understand the lack of the trinity.

I'm willing to help out whenever you need. I'm planning to do some normal Wanderer's Palace and Amdapor Keep runs soon. I'll keep doing the AK speed runs after that but will be more than happy to walk first-timers through it the normal way first.

At least in AK, "rushing" just means skipping the trash. I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to as long as you can since you don't get anything for killing it except a higher repair bill. Now, if you mean trying to rush people through story dungeons by complaining about watching cutscenes, that's just not cool.

God bless culinarian. I have morphu'd into a big number buff dispenser.

Ran HM Ifrift with my FC. I was prepared to do it all night but got the bow at the first attempt.

Felt bad for the other bard who didn't get shit after numerous attempts.

Incidentally this is my plan: stick with people from here or that I know elsewhere when I do that stuff for the first time. I want to ENJOY the story, if that weren't a factor I may have been glued to something like WoW long, long ago.

Sastasha - Done
Tam Tara - Done
Copperbell Mines - been waiting in duty finder for 2 hours.

Done all available quests to I and can't progress until I get this story mission done but cannot due to not being able to find a party on duty finder.

Hopefully tomorrow :)

I wish they had done something more interesting with trash. As it is, it serves no purpose other than being a time and gil sink. Every pack *feels* like it takes forever because they have so much health, and don't do anything remotely challenging (get out of the red, do that several more times over the course of 3 minutes). It would even be appreciated if the trash had mechanics that would prepare you for the upcoming boss like some other MMOs.

I realize they have to introduce time sinks and "gate content" in some form to extend the amount of content they have for the next two months. I'm not sure if it's even better to adopt daily lockouts for end-game dungeons and remove the trash. I just know I'd rather see some value from clearing trash if I have to do it.

The stalker gimmick in Wanderer's Palace was a little novel, and should have been kicked up a notch so there could be some planning and method for optimization with speed clearing trash. Alas, like other things in this game, it can be wholly circumvented, and that's disappointing.

I read in an earlier post that people rushing AK were skipping chests, including one that gives a minion or something? Since one of my goals in the game is to get all pets, that's a sad thing for me. But yeah, bottom line for me is that I enjoy doing dungeons, and I want to see the story, and I don't want to rush my first time through. I'll gladly do stuff like that later if people want, but that first time is important to me.

I did each one of those a day, and just explored the map and did sidequests while waiting in queue.

I'm enjoying the game a lot playing like that.

I agree completely.

When I reach the end-story dungeon(s), I'll make it a point to join people in the GAF FC [assuming I get a spot, I'm still in the Link Shell :(] and express the purpose/need to take our time going through it. Perhaps get a full group of "first-timers" so none of us have to feel the need to rush through things.

I play these types of games for the story, as well as the experience. To have to hurry through something just because a few people don't want to wait a few additional minutes for a cut-scene to play [and then complain about it] upsets me. They do realize that they're playing a Final Fantasy title, right?

FFXI dungeons made tons. Well it was endgame ish type content. Limbus dropped valuable coins, Dynamis still makes you good money today especially now that you can solo there and get a steady drop rate of currency and 100point currency. It's how I made money when I went back to ffxi.

Crafting to make money in FFXI was good depending on the craft, and you better believe it cost you a arm or leg to get that craft to 100+3. You rarely make money off of things you leveled a craft on (if you farm it yourself you might). The cheaper the craft the more competition. Meanwhile Dragon Bone, behemoth hide, or Ancient Coins are win win.

He means actual gil not like items to sell Ploid. Gil was stil available in XI because items sold for something most of the time. That's not really the case in XIV right now. If item prices can get really low to equal the cost of those items to NPCs, then it might be ok but currently everything is worth far more than you can earn.

Aurum Vale was the last dungeon I did, but I can't remember if that was storyline or not. I'm currently level 48.

What's your character name? I'm pretty much in the same boat where I'm close to hitting 50, and reading all these horror stories of end-game dungeon groups disparaging people who don't know the instance or boss mechanics or what a "speed run" is, is very discouraging. I know that mentality dies down as more and more casuals reach end-game, but I'd rather run it with other first-timers who don't mind me sitting in a cutscene.

Tiv Einsfell, maining white mage.

Should I keep mining at Horizon or go elsewhere. Level 18 miner.

Some tanks will go for the pet; it's right before the first boss to the left. You can try asking tanks if they'll grab the pet on the way. Also chest duty is usually relegated to other party members.

On the one hand its irritating on the other hand its double xp, once for the leve and then once for the quest to do the leve

For now, yeah. If the game continues to have a significant number of US subscribers however, they very well may add some remote administrators for the US servers at some point. I mean, I'm not predicting it exactly, but, if the games successful enough it'd probably make sense for them to do so, from a workload viewpoint.

FFXI had a big(ger? there were so few Japan users it seemed) US/English presence, we couldn't even ask them questions, some people had to go on Japan sites to communicate with SE. Darn Sage Sundi, is he on FFXIV btw?

Ah ah, how much space/storage is in the game? I'd stock up on expensive things until cap and sit on it. Level every class/job to max and wait for the money to roll in until selling. If you are rich buy some things. Though this could backfire if a content update introduce better stuff than what you collected. Risk worth taking I bet.

I just want them to fix it because its silly. Do we really want to just be running from boss to boss on all content going forward because it is efficient? People already complained that the primals were just a room. It doesn't feel like a dungeon crawl if you skip all the trash. Trash in any MMO has never bothered me. This is only an issue here because you can cheese it. If you could not cheese it and you were actually required to kill them as part of the instance you are getting the tomes out of then there would not be this attitude. The most simple fix would be that once someone from your party enters combat the mobs would not just run away when the tank dies but goes after the next person in your party and the next till they are all dead.

I am frightfully disappointed with the job design in this game, thus far. Summoner and Bard are big let downs for me. I am not saying they are ineffective, I just hate the direction of them. I wanted a Summoner and a Bard, not an Affliction Warlock and a Marksmanship Hunter.

I feel like they'd have been best suited by opening up a support archetype (and splitting Archer into two classes - Bard or Ranger), since a lot of people like that from XI and FF in general. Put Bard and Summoner in it to buff, debuff and apply burst damage and healing at good moments with songs and REAL summons. Also, you'd have a much easier road towards adding a Red Mage, which I constantly see people pining for.

Just my opinion, I'm sure some people like it as is, but I find it to be a real shame.

I stayed at Horizon till 22, Iron Ore sells really well in the market as its needed for both Iron Ingots and steel ingots.

Support classes are something that seems out of place in this version of the game. Support abilities are built into almost every class as it is.

What is a "real" summon?

Okay so I'm getting really pissed off whenever I try to complete Brayflox. It never fails - the healer has quit on us about 4 times now without saying a word... has anyone else experienced trouble in this area?

I randomly tried Ifrit for the first time, just to see how hard he'd be. And how hard I'd have to train for my next attempt

Yeah. Poor Ifrit.

Partied up with Gaffers and had a blast. Doubt you are in Ultros, right?

It's been a fun game, but I decided to stop playing..just repeating dungeons over and over for loot left a bad taste on my tongue :( I can't deny that I enjoyed everything up until that part though.

Square disabled digital download purchases for FFXIV, anyone know when they'll start them again?

I'm trying Walmarts, Gamestops and BestBuys. No luck in my area :/ It seems like Square's website still has boxed copies but I don't really feel like paying shipping and waiting for it

If you are on ultros i'll party up with you.

Got the pro heals.

Just finished Brayflox myself with a really ungrateful party. Tanking is fucking hard work, and had a terrible healer that was just letting me die several times.

Boss is a special hassle with super sudden special attack aoe, and healing pools to lead away from.
