Level 23 and I think I'm already bored of the game. I haven't even been playing that much either. Already the annoyances I have with most mmos are appearing. The dragging out of the story by having me run back and forth between npcs. Doing emotes and then kill task. That combined with the waiting for duty finder to work the last few days. I can not get my chocoobo but in order to do so I need the seals and that means either grinding the company leves or running all over the place trying to find fates. The pay off for both methods isn't really worth the effort either I'm feeling. I get to a new area and see the different quest icons and I can't be bothered to even talk to the npcs. I should be thankful I didn't have to buy the game again but still I didn't expect this to set in so soon.

I guess I want to play the story but I really don't want to be bothered with the BS I have to do and go through in order to do so. I guess it goes back to my initial feeling. I really want this as a single player game where I'm in this world but playing with a party of characters and it's balanced toward that play style.

I know I'm about 2 weeks late for this, but hit 50 on my monk. Last class quest was fun, but overall I didn't like the monk arc, was kind of boring, kinda saw the twist in the last quest coming from a mile away. But anyways monk robes get:

Had to grind out about half a level at 49 through fates in Mor'dhona (found it easier as there are a lot less people than Northern Thanalan). Happy its over. Just need to level Lancer to 33 for Blood for Blood (currently early 23) and I'll have all the additional abilities for the job. Been a fun ride overall, looking forward to finishing off the story and trying out some 50 dungeons. If anyone wants to group up on Leviathan my characters name is Vesaa Sasaki, feel free to send me a friend request :).

Monk robes are so hot. They look great on Miqo'te as well!
I've only done the first two quests for pugilist so far, but the guildmaster is a hoot!

Finally made it to SCH and SMN.

How do I go about getting armor sets for both? (I'm lvl 30)

Is SMN a tank due to the ifrit, and SCH a healer due to the fairy? Or is that not the case?

I'm looking at ACN (or Monk) as my main right now and having a pet deal damage is really strong.

How do you like the class at 30? Is it still fun to play? Do you find the class to be versatile?

Ultros.

To be fair it was just one group that was forming tonight. It just struck me as odd since I figured people in the guild would be a bit more understanding about that kind of thing. For all I know they were attempting some kind of speed run were range classes are just more efficient. Though it's just sad to see SE fail at balancing range/meele classes just like everyone else.

This used to be the most smug, cocky, stuck up class in the game. They reigned for a long time as the OP class until they started to get nerfed little by little (Distance sweet spot nerfs and stuff).

You know how gaf is to that Infamous Second Son character? Wanting to punch him because he look like a douche? I really want to punch this fake character like that, kinda.

Can you be more specific about the situation? I mean, depending on the make up of the group, adding more melee to it can just be problematic in many cases. I don't think it's that odd.

I don't recall the exact message. But you are very likely correct in this.

My whole point was that it seems like range classes are having some huge advantages already. This game is still very new. You would think these OP combinations would take longer to figure out.

Ranger + buying gil for ammo/gear was truly impossible to gauge.

We used SMN a lot to begin with. They were solid, especially when they got 2 abilities per minute. Maybe your LS didn't like them? /shrug :P

SMN in this game is... well... I'll leave it at that.

They had abilities to use but most weren't terrible effective, especially on the damage front, for a long time, It was a lot better eventually but at the height of users in the game, SMNs still weren't useful beyond a few situational things and eventually Odin/Alexander 2HRs. Even the biggest reason to use a summoner, Garuda's haste wasn't as effective as a regular haste and couldn't be stacked. I mean sheesh.

But I digress, that's a balance discussion. It's from a design and playing view point that XI's SMN is bad. Bad GCD, barely control options, very little for the SMN to do by itself, and etc. Without an SJ, SMN couldn't do squat which is just stupid. XIV's SMN fixes all that and leaves room to do more with it.

I mean seriously, the only complaint XIV SMNs I've heard are "They're not using real summons" and "It's like X" which I don't think are terribly valid criticisms of it.

While leveling it, you can gear like you would normally. Gear selection early on is limited and most pieces will come with equal amounts INT/MND anyway. For your accessories, you can customize to the job. That's what I did.

Just beat Brayflox's Longstop with a losing party. The healer was pretty bad at first. We wiped about 6-7 times, but everyone stuck with it and we beat the boss with something like 5 minutes left. At the start I was pretty sure we would lose. Kind of goes to show you need to give it your all and not be a jerk ragequitter every questionable run. My last try someone RQ'ed after the first wipe, and if they'd done it this time they would have missed a win.

Ranger had my samurai drooling at their tp gain + dat damage. Though boy did I love those Samurai buffs that just kept coming and coming. FFXIV buffs and balance tweaking shall be a sight to behold. I hear Red Mage didn't have refresh or convert at first, Imagine what SE will do with the current classes/jobs. Maybe make Archer viable since it sounds useless vs Bard.

Of course I miss Odin the one night I decide to log off and study like a good girl. I had just been talking about wishing he'd pop a few hours ago, too. Quitting school tbh
jk... maybe

HNM FATEs is a bad idea.

SE: US your King's bottleneck problem is fixed. Enjoy.

I think it will be better when they make it so target mobs don't vanish, though Fafhogg with just 100 people was a mess with lag, yeah it may be a bad idea especially this early when everyone wants to fight it.

You'll love how the pugilist arc ends at 30 then, they do some fun stuff with that character.

And yeah totally wish I was a misqo'te now, I might change her when I get the free character change vial.

I find that SMN could use a bit more burst for situations where it matters, even if it's not an on demand at all times thing. Their sustained DPS seems fine however. I'd also really like to see some of their job specific spells worked on. Tri Disaster seems out of place, Spur is worse in every way than Rouse (even if you can use them both so it isn't totally worthless) and they could maybe shorten Enkindle's CD a bit?

Some people are saying SMN DPS is too low, and while it might be, every single example of such folks are providing leads back to the current parser, which isn't properly analyzing the DPS of DOTs. How someone can use that as a valid example when it's well known the parser is broken is beyond me, and i find it extremely irritating when I keep having to correct people in game (usually in our GAF LS) about it not working right. Even worse when they continue to argue about it when they have no other examples...

Aww, someone just called me garbage in Halatali because I died once.

Everyone but me and a guy who already ran the dungeon before were alive and I died just before the end, but I'm garbage. Awesome.

Damage over Time and Heal over Time ticks also use server side timers which is weird. So everyone share tick timers. When a Thaumaturge shifts into ice casting for the mana regen ticks it could be applied instantly or 2 seconds later depending on the server side timers. A SMN's dot could do less total damage depending on the time he cast the spell. Gotta get lucky until a global server side tick timer addon is made.

Yeah, I think it could use a few tweaks for sure. Tri-Disaster being a bind is kinda weird but I like the additional DOT from it. Spur doesn't seem like it produces a lot of extra power but it's kind of hard to tell without a valid parser. I also think the Egis could be more unique by giving them their own skills (Garuda and Titan specifically) as SMN. Oh and making AOE attacks a command instead so they don't break CC so readily.

But Fester is pretty good damage with great crits and the DOT damage is very good through bar eyeballing because it's basically unparse-able at the moment, I think.

At any rate, it's definitely a more complete job than if they tried to follow XI's lead, that much is sure. More synergy with the Egis would be nice but they got the right idea with this SMN.

I see were you are coming from but at the same time Ranger was incredibly expensive job. If you didn't have the means the job was just worthless. How do you factor that?

Anyone else getting really bad lag tonight? I have not gotten lag since open beta and all a sudden tonight's is crazy.

I was. I barely pay attention to my life during solo stuff but during a certain quest I actually died. I didn't know what happened so on the second attempt I notice that basically I could not dodge any AOE attacks at all.

good to know i'm not the only one. was really frustrating during a dungeon run. everyone was thinking i was sucking it up and i finally quit after i couldn't fix the lag with a modem reset.

Yeah that's true, I guess that's why they don't use ammo in this game. I only had a problem with rangers when they started taking over camps. So many rangers. When I went endgame I liked having them around. Farming sky, tracking mobs, doing good damage on things to make fights faster. As a second job or so ranger was cheap, as a first job the price would get to you. When ranger got to endgame they would have plenty of gil to keep playing.

I could have even went ranger, though I leveled about 5 other classes. I constantly used bolts on thief, everything I did I'd try to bolt it with defense down. For solo bloody bolts were vital, and I solo'd stuff a ton on thief (favorite thing to do). Every attack wasn't a bolt but those bolt quivers wasn't so bad to buy for me. My character probably still have some. I even crafted my own bloody bolts. Most of the rangers I knew crafted their own arrows to save cost. Some even had me to craft holy bolts for them, and some bullets.

So to enjoy the power of ra.. the awesomeness of ranger you just need to be a bit of a scave... thrifty fellow if you're not rich. You will surely kill things faster. Or you can just ridill or kraken things then weaponskill, or barrage then weaponskill and go back to kraken /ridill/kriss, arrows give a ton of tp anyway.

TL:DNR I think the price was well worth the awesome damage.

Yes, a lot. I'm on a JP server too (Aegis). The lag I've gotten the past couple hours has been objectively the worst I've personally experienced since I started in beta P4.

I'm confused by something, I keep reading in this thread and during open chat within the game itself that many people are lacking in possible experience in this game.

It almost sounds to me like many are just grinding themselves up to max level without doing all the hunts, quests or leves at the proper times , obsessed with simply hitting the cap instead of enjoying themselves.

Is this actually the case or is there actually a lack of things to complete near the end of the game ? There seems to be a wealth of quests at the start which is good because it hooks players in and then as the quests get fewer and further between you can do hunts and guild leves / hests as well as the class quests. Getting to level 15 seems fairly simple and even hitting 20 by the the time you can get into your first raid dungeon doesn't seem impossible if you can party up a few times.

Is it after that first dungeon that things slow down ?
