Ifrit Hard Mode Run, Saturday 9/14 @3PM EST, All Day if we have too

Lets start doing things together, too much randomness with our FC
It's a crapshoot, with the FC moving lightning speed

Scheduling can help us all out and at least stop the randomness

We can start adjusting to dungeons afterwards and create groups where players can mix and match and help each other out

I'm FUCKING TIRED of PUG's and the silly Diva or Skip CS moments

We have the FC website for a reason, please use it, it's a tool to help us reach our gaming goals.
Nothing is going to get done with randomness

If one of the officers of our FC want to take the lead on this go ahead, but I seriously want some order to start building our FC into a good FC

That we have layers of each type, the Hardcore Crew, The Middle and the Casuals
We should be helping and benefiting each other, how come other FC's can push forward, yet people in our FC have to fucking beg just to get stuff done

Also mumble has been very beneficial to fights, it would be nice if others can start using it, it's the same 15-20 people in there
Typing while fighting in certain times can be a huge nuisance, just holding to talk to relay the whole team, Oh shit add/link or boss dungeon mechanic incoming, saves times, patience/rage, creates better teamwork

Can you see chat while cut scenes are playing on PC? They don't on ps3. I plan to sit back relax and grab a bag of pop corn when I get to that point. I won't see chat anyway so let folks bitch away. Not that I've run into any jerks in the df yet anyway. Well see doe!

Yes you can on pc, just press enter and the chat log will pop up

Nope, you don't.

Either way, I expect to come back to a bunch of complaints clogging my chat window...but I don't care. It my first-time through a dungeon, I enjoy the story in-game, I will be watching the cut-scenes [for my initial play-through].

That's all there is to it.
Haha yup same here. High five to that. Speaking of lore how did 1.0 finish? With the calamity? I assume so right? I'm in a lore-y kinda mood, considering the servers are down and I just saw the new siege of orgimmar end raid video :3

I felt really bad for a tank in my Praetorium group. Was watching cutscenes throughout the instance with people bitching at us. I finally gave it up near the end because it looked like we were running out of time because of some wipes. They ended up starting up one of the final boss encounters that is kinda a major part of the game without him and beating it. Guy completely missed out on something so major story wise because of a bunch of dickbags.

So yeah, just saying, watch out for that.

Yeah, the Calamity [I believe]. I never did play 1.0 but I've been meaning to watch that Blu-ray that came with my CE. It supposedly describes things with decent detail, so I should probably get around to doing that...

I do like how they tied in the whole "Warriors of Light" thing. Basically the people referenced in 2.0 are the group of four that completed your Story Event [in 1.0], so if you played that you're essentially memorialized as one of the great heroes.

That's a really nice touch for the 1.0 fans.

Thanks for the warning.

I'm planning on running the later dungeons with similar-minded GAF members, so hopefully I won't have that issue. That's really unfortunate, though. :(

Well the dungeon isn't just about the cutscenes but also other stuff you need to do as a group, even if you do enjoy yourself with the cutscenes they will still make the rest of the dungeon not very enjoyable.

Woo! completed my Cavalry set after 16 runs~ xD
Now to start on my CNJ for BattleMage gear, sadly not as quick to find a group as my paladin was... D:

The FC is nice and there are so many sweet people but there is too many cliques its a damn mess.

It doesn't help that 60% of them are randoms that don't even go here.

Awww. I was ready to come home, make myself some pasta, and jam out on FFXIV for a good three hours...

Then I saw the message = (

I have no issues with the maintaince times here in the UK, they start when I'm asleep and the it ends when im not even thinking about playing, so by time I do log on I've had no down time at all.

Yeah quite the dilemma I see. Definitely stuff to keep in mind. Thanks a ton for the heads up and input. :)

Also are you on Ultros Chrono? I'd gladly run through with ya!

Reposting this since the thread is moving so fast even with the game down~

Since maintenance is happening today, I thought this might be a good time to post this. I generally try to keep these posts restricted to our website but I know there are still many that haven't registered or started checking it regularly yet.

Membership Update
For those of you on the waiting list in the Ultros GAF Linkshell and those reading here in the thread that still want to join, we will be clearing a considerable amount of room in the Free Company this Friday. Invites will start going out Friday evening. Members in the Linkshell, members with verified NeoGAF accounts, and members that have registered on our website will be given priority over other users.

We will continue to review and maintain our roster closely and on a weekly basis, through the end of November. Everyone's free trials will have expired by then and we will have a good idea of what the active community is going to look like. At that time, we will probably be able to relax our policies on membership culling.

Free Company Events
It may be impossible to coordinate over 500 people's different schedules but I would still like to gauge some interest in event planning. How is everyone progressing? Will there be many new 50s this weekend? Is there any interest in setting up events to clear the remaining story dungeons (3 8-man dungeons - Westwind, Castrum Meridianum, Praetorium), Amdapor Keep (standard and speed run walk through for first timers), Wanderer's Palace (first timers), and Ifrit HM (first timers and those that have not yet obtained their weapon)?

If you haven't already, please register at neogaf.guildwork.com. If you are not a member of the Free Company yet, you will need to submit an application under the 'Recruitment' section. If you are already a member of the Free Company but haven't registered on the site, simply register an account and then link your Lodestone character to your profile. Site access will be granted based on your Free Company affiliation.

All events will be planned and scheduled through our website. You can sign up for attendance via the calendar. In the future, depending on how the drops work, for Bahamut's Coil and Crystal Tower (2.1), we may begin using the Raid Tracker to track attendance, progress, and rewards. It is important that our members start using the site instead of relying on this thread, especially since we have members that are not able to participate in the thread.

Yep, I'm on Ultros although I'm still a relatively low level [36]. I know it would be faster to simply grind FATE's over and over, but I prefer going about and doing the story/side-quests in addition to the scattered FATE I see while I'm in the area [as well as dungeons for story-completion]. It doesn't help that I work on my gathering/crafting classes as well in-between all of this. :(

Are you in the FC yet? I'm in the Link Shell waiting for my moment to finally enter the guild. I've heard that there should be a few spots opening up soon, so there's still hope!

If I get to the point where I'm doing the dungeons, and you're still willing, I would be more than happy to group with you [and anyone else here with similar interests to experience the story]. :)

Thanks for this. I fit all of the criteria, so here's hoping!

I find that it puts even more pressure on a healer in terms of skipping cut-scenes. Coming right out the group most of the time already run ahead and don't even give you time to cast your buffs..

Which leads to instant aggro since the tank needs to be topped of without having stoneskin as an enmity buffer.
Had a really stressful Vigil run yesterday. I really, REALLY don't know how that tank got that far:

He didn't know you should ALWAYS turn mobs away from the group. We had to constantly position us even on trash, not to mention on bosses
He never EVER peeled but just let us deal with runners ourselves
He was an a warrior and aoeing constantly which made using sleep totally useless
I had to mark for him
Always forgot about the Aevis roamers
He took so much damage even with stoneskin before fight that I had to spam heal and of course tanked most adds on junk groups.

How we managed to actually clear that dungeon is beyond me but we did..with like 9 mins left when we came to the last boss.
God, that was so painful..

In all honesty, if I were the healer [instead of the spell-tossin', destruction-causin' Black Mage that I am!] I would just let them all die.

That might sound cruel, and it probably is, but it's their fault for running on ahead to start the encounter(s) when they know the healer in the group is busy watching the cut-scene(s).

Were literally playing the same way, although I'm only 26. I'm in the linkshell as well but not the fc. Pelagius Themad at your service! ;) send a fr when ya get a chance if you'd like.

I was in the Lodestone looking if there were any news or something and I noticed the name of the Achievement I got last night from obtaining the Stardust Rod:

It's for this reason that I usually treat the Duty Finder as a last resort these days, or as a tool for filling out a missing slot. While some of the best groups I've played with were on the Duty Finder, the fact that its anonymous and not limited to your own server, means you'll occasionally run into people that have zero interest in maintaining a positive relationship with the other players.

Conversely, there have been a lot of times when I've finished a dungeon and started typing, "See you later," only to stop and feel a little sad inside.

See, I just can't do that. I care about my reputation even with people that I might never see again. I am just silly like that ./
Sometimes I actually wish I had the guts to do it though.
It's also against my pride to be blamed for doing a bad job which will happen even if I let them die in purpose :p

Will do! :)

Look for a fellow named Makoto Narukami to befriend you! Where did I come up with that name? Well I am glad you asked!

*I have spoiler-tagged my reasoning since you may [or, more than likely, may not] wish to know the story behind the name. Proceed at your own risk!*

Considering I'm relatively un-original, in all aspects, to naming my character(s) [this is even more difficult when two names are required!], and I didn't want to use a random name generator, I thought to myself. Self, what types of games do you enjoy? RPG's, of course! Now self, I ask you this. What series do you enjoy above all else? Persona immediately popped into mind [although Chrono Trigger, as you might have guessed, is my favorite RPG of all time] and considering I didn't want to rip an exact copy/name of a character [I have my limits!!], I decided to name myself with the first/last name of both the Protagonist's from Persona 3 and 4. Makoto Yuuki from Persona 3 [yes, Makoto is his "canon" name now with the upcoming movie] and Yu Narukami from Persona 4.

Still un-original, I know, but I'm happy with it. I'll send you a FR tomorrow when I log on [sometime]. I took a break from Eorzea today, mostly because of maintenance, but that will not happen again!

To be fair, I say that I'd do this...but I probably wouldn't. I'm similar to you as being too kind [almost to a fault], so I would still attempt to heal/contribute as much as I could, even if I was left behind.

It would probably teach them a lesson [or, at least, I'd hope it would] but that wouldn't change the way I would likely act in that situation. I would literally throw myself into the fire of battle, even if I were un-prepared.

I always thank people for the group, and I'm [mostly] talkative throughout it [but not to an obnoxious amount, or I hope so anyway]. I made some pretty terrible puns in my last dungeon run [they were AWFUL!] in-regards to bosses/enemies, and the group seemed to enjoy it. We didn't finish in-time, since many were new to the dungeon, but I still had fun.

It saddens me to see so many people treat the game as a "job" and not to sit back and have fun once in a while. Stay positive, people! It's more enjoyable that way. :)

...

Now I'm not feeling nearly as bad about my situation with the two times we went. :P

Yup, took me 4 days to go through it all, the first being the most runs runs with 8 runs back to back... xD

And you know what's gonna suck? finally getting a run and getting all Cavalry parts, I'm so gonna get trolled when the servers get back on... ;__;

Oh yeah if anyone wanna do runs with me on Ultros Add Amon Lau whenever you're online~ :3
I'm not that high(39 PLD,32 CNJ) but I'm getting there~ xD

Will do! :)

Hahaha! That's awesome, quite the introduction! My tale is far less clever. The first book I picked up and read fully back in Oblivion was Pelagius The Mad. It holds close to my heart cause I spent so much time in that game so I stuck to it when naming characters in rpg's and such. I just combine The Mad into Themad(I still haven't determined a correct pronunciation :P) and presto, you have my handle!

I'm actually liking this "origin of your characters name thing here" Anyone else have any tales of clever and wit?!

So just create a FC with the guys that you play with regularly? There's little reason to have a single group for it, especially at that size. The entire spirit of "playing with Neogaf" is to meet folks from here and enjoy your time in game. So there's no reason why you can't get your own group going.

I mean really, all the other servers have Neogaf groups. Excalibur has the group of folks I'm with and has Dega's group as well and we're both Neogaf. It's all good!

Well, in either case it definitely looks like an authentic name to me! I approve.

As long as you personally enjoy it, and it holds a specific connection to you, that is all that matters!

How did they beat it? You helped or they 3 manned it? I woulda just stood there and watched.

Posted a crafting materials exchange thread on the ultros guildwork website to facilitate trading between guild members. If anyone is interested, you can view it here.

It would be cool if we also started doing Garuda HM and Titan HM sometime this weekend or next weekend too. Titan HM would be wipe city until we were all better geared but it would be fun to learn that fight.

4chan's guild (Golden Ratio/ZR) have a number of members already progressed past Garuda HM and they were busy wiping to Titan HM last weekend for quite some time. I'm not trying to start a server rivalry but the two largest guilds on Ultros by far are NeoGAF and 4chan and right now the Vidyas are easily winning the race for progression even though we are a guild roughly twice as large as theirs in membership, including our overflow LS and theirs.

This is why they are "winning."

The guilds that will "win" progression in this game will smaller in size. 50 or less. More focused, more eager to help.

You may also want to ask Capell about Titan HM wrt strategies and whatnot. I believe his group cleared Titan HM last night.

If you do get a group to run titan, give me a buzz. I giff buffs to all.

Really, it's a guild with a strong 10-25 man core. I guess 8 in this game so far? Some guilds have a B and C team that raid seperately, but are usually behind the core. Then there's people on the bench sidelined waiting.

I never heard of a megaguild with like 40 unique cores.

But, there's no raid locks are there?

There are even people and whine and insult you if you wait 4 seconds to perform a death pull in Amdpor Keep lol... some times this game's community can suck, that's why i started to do things picking up people from my own server... if he's good and polite i'll ask him next time to do things :)

So today was going great as I was able to finish my HQ AF BSM set, thanks to Solace:

But then couldn't return the favor and get a HQ Culinary Knife for Docbon, sorry man T_T

Well, that sucks. I thought you actually get them upon reaching Lv50. You have to craft them?? Wow!

Is there any chance they'll be releasing some sort of item that lets us rename our characters? i.e Rename card.

I hope so, I was so worried about getting into Ultros that I just typed in the first surname I could think of. I never really use last names in these games and I hate the one I picked. I'd gladly pay to change it.

You can have your name changed by applying for it (link in the lodestone announcement). But only if you weren't able to the first time.

Any healers/dd's got a preference for tanks yet? As a WAR people tend to like how much faster a boss goes cause our dps isn't terrible. I also have 6k hp at level 50, which is nice.

Yesterday a tank from the neogaf helped me defeating titan.

I really have to say that the neogaf FC is very kind and open for help, I never had a group where we had an asshole - rather we only had people which where very nice. :-)

Tanks name was something like Txxxxxxx Txxxxx I don't remember exactly, but thank you kind Sir! I was Mendrox Drogon. :)

Yeah, I had this too. Me, warrior and the other tank were watching all cutscenes. I was hearing the battle voices of the last boss during my cutscene and when I was done watching it was at 40%. And this was almost 2 weeks ago.

Was worse for him since it was a boss that you had to get to the elevator to fight so he didn't even get to see or hear it. Just a blocked way when he got out of the cut scene. I felt like shit for even continuing in the group.
