Love how you can see her arm through that.. what is that called? Arm condome?

Oh...lol. Toad confirmed then. :P (No really, thats basically what he's saying. +1 on my prediction list.)
Whaa...? People really think this?

Toad's cool and all, but he doesn't really have the same potential that other Mario characters do. Characters like Waluigi or Paper Mario or even Bowser Jr. are more likely than Toad, I'd say. Toad's in the same boat as Waddle Dee. He's a popular, recurring character in his franchise and has been playable in recent games, but he's just too generic and lacking in potential to become a playable character. Not that they couldn't make him a playable character, but I don't see it happening, especially not before some other Mario characters.

Is it fair to assume that they are more or less porting models from brawl into this game, and then just swapping textures?

I don't think the issue are the models themselves, but the animation skeletons. They seem to be using the same animations from Brawl, without any changes, for many old attacks which haven't been changed or updated.

However, I agree that the models look disappointing, especially after the Melee -> Brawl jump in very similar hardwares. The jump now should have been much bigger, but it actually looks smaller than Brawl's.

Part of that likely comes from the change in art style, with brighter softer colors and textures, with less contrast than Brawl's, but even technically they do seem rather disappointing... Link now has a modeled chain mail, but other parts of the outfit still are just textures.

And they probably wouldn't have given her that move again if he was playable, considering the character list is likely finalized. They smoothed and detailed his model too, but not enough for him to be a full character, so it seems clear that they intend for him to stay as a move.

They could use a different colored Toad I guess, but I don't see it happening.

No love for the impressive 3DS game? :[[[

I'm enjoying seeing the 3DS screenshots more than the Wii U ones to be honest since they look different. I feel like I know what the Wii U one looks like since it's just a more colorful version of Brawl. Not that that's bad, but it's not as interesting as seeing how things look with the 3DS style.

Isn't it just more saturated and aliased? The art would probably look like this.

Nice job!

Yeah, i'm finding the shots lovely. I think outlines do a good job!

That 3DS shot of Peach looks really nice. They seem to be treating both games well, which is good for me, because I'm totally buying both versions.

Hey I love the 3DS version, its awesome. Sadly I won't be getting it though. D:

no one cares about babby's first Smash Brothers

Pfft. :(

When they announced the 3DS version, I was concerned about being able to see the characters when the camera zooms out. But now that I see what he's doing with the outlines (plus having the 3DS have its own stages), I'm much less concerned. I think I'll end up with both versions.

I really miss the Princess' original dress:

It complemented the simplicity of Mario, Luigi, and Toad's designs and was really easy to draw too. I wish they would include it as an optional costume for her, but I know that's not going to happen. :P

Agreed. Sakurai should simplify her dress back to how it looks in actual Mario series games, like he did with the Bros.' overalls. This dress would look way better, IMO:

By that logic Yoshi and most all of the Pokémon should be disqualified as well. If you seriously think Toad is on the same level of Waddle Dee, then you're not thinking about this hard enough, especially when you list Paper Mario and Bowser Jr.

I am interested why Sakurai mentioned some of Peach's moves may be refreshed. Seems odd considering that preface was not given to any other character. Makes me wonder if they're considering changing some of her moveset and just haven't yet. Maybe there is material from Super Mario 3D World they want to integrate? Or just give her more ribbons? Time will tell.

The original Japanese Miiverse post is probably more telling -- it specifically says "motions" instead of "moves." I think Sakurai is just trying to say that Peach might get a reanimation or two before the game ships, not necessarily a whole new special move.

I always find your attempts to be the voice of reason in this thread adorable but naive.

That makes more sense. Nice to hear that. Smash Wii U will be able to allow us to see the differences more clearly.

Well I didn't actually expect a character reveal to happen.

Liking the screens so far.

Sakurai please reveal Captain Falcon already :C

That wasn't the discussion.

Secondly [not directed at the quoted poster], if Toad were both playable and a move, there is no reason both can't coexist. This wouldn't be the first situation where a fighting game had a character used as an attack and both playable. Even with Brawl R.O.B was both playable and a species of enemy in Subspace. Reading into a screenshot to claim that he has "no shot now" is just as absurd as all of the people going around saying Ridley is disconfirmed when we have no proof for that claim. All of this is circumstantial at best right now and people should wait until we know more what is in the game before we start checking off lists. Just my view, anyways.

Nice to see my girl Peach. I've mained her since Melee and may do it again depending on the newcomers.

Her new design is wonderful and I'm loving the small changes like the ribbon on her Up Smash.

Japanese is not as clear-cut as English and can't be translated literally most of the time.

This is likely in reference to the ribbon that was attached to Up Smash. The ribbon literally looks tacked on in the image, like it's a recent change, as the animation of Usmash itself (the pose I mean) is the exact same as it's always been. It's going to need to be adjusted to work with the ribbon properly.

I wouldn't look any further into it with your crazy weird predictions and fantasies of Toad as a playable character. :P

Right, but there are specific terms used to refer to moves/attacks (like "waza"), but the language used in the Miiverse post refers to motions/animations/gestures. It's much more superficial.

1) I wouldn't adhere smash to closely to things done in other fighting games, one because of what smash is. two because of who is incharge, the man who took out cut scenes because people put them on youtube.

2) your rob comparison isn't even close to the same kind of thing.

C'mon, now, Yoshi and Pokémon are a bit different. Yoshi is the star of his own franchise, anyway.

If Toad was the mascot of his own franchise, then sure, he'd deserve a spot on the roster. But that's not the case at all.

And, actually, I'd say Waddle Dee has even more of a chance than Toad, since Kirby's Return to Dream Land featured a unique Waddle Dee with his own special abilities. That's more than Toad's ever gotten, really. But I highly doubt we'll see Waddle Dee as a playable character, anyway.

Why do you want everything to be designed the same?

I don't want universal designs for Mario characters - they should look different in different games
