Microsoft respond to the EDGE article

Both systems have multitasking, except Xbox One allows snap on with some apps, however how important is snap on, save for Skype it seems rather pointless. Who would give a fuck about taking half the screen away to search a website, when you can pull out your smartphone instead. Basic multitasking is enough, how often has someone used similar snapon features on their phone, rather than using normal multitasking features. And yes the voice commands seem pointless, as PS4 OS demonstration shown it is easy to get to where you want, multitask and join games instantly. Kinect OS navigation seems rather pointless, again how often do people use Siri, save for being in odd situations like driving which wont happen on a console, even if you do find it useful was it worth the extra $100 to say Xbox On, something that insignificant should have been optional really. And i give you the HDMI in feature of the Xbox One, I guess thats one major media feature MS has over PS4.

Yea, I don't know why people just forget the Ps4 will have multitasking. Outside of the HDMI In TV overlay, and the snap feature, both consoles will have pretty identical multimedia features. So if you don't have a cable box (like me), the X1's extra features are kind of useless.

The fact that Microsoft even feels the need to respond to this article says more than enough, let alone the "our machine is too complex for you to understand at this moment" weirdness.

No games so far suggest that the PS4 is more powerful, especially not 50% more powerful.

Second Son and Killzone do look better than just about everything so far.

But I agree on the last account. There's a step up, but not a 50% step up. Ryse looks gorgeous and if that's what the "inferior" console can put out at launch, consider me excited for what it'll output in the future.

We'll likely see whatever extra raw power the PS4 has utilized by SSM and Naughty Dog, though
(drooling at the thought).

I think I have a new favorite. [*tips hat*]

“Ten years ago, you could argue that a console’s power was summed up in terms of a few of its specs, but Xbox One is designed as a powerful machine to deliver the best blockbuster games today and for the next decade."

This sentence makes absolutely no sense.

It is pretty funny when they say we can't comprehend or we don't understand or it's way more complex than what we perceive. Seriously, these guys are so far up their own ass they can find Lemmingwinks. Funny how the professional tech people, who actual do tech, work with it, test it, know how shit works and so on start to criticize the Xbox One start to get told they are just wrong. At least people knew with the CELL processor for the PS3 that it was going to be a crazy challenge because no one has ever programmed something like that before. This is x86 architecture with other little BS things added on that make it more complicated than it should be, as well as being less powerful.

so you have seen games running on an actual XB1?

What are those boxes that people play games on at Gamescom, or at E3? They looked exactly like the retail Xbox One consoles to me.

I thought it was the PS4 retail design that hasn't actually been seen running a game just yet. I know there's no funny business going on, as they were just running on dev kits, but if you're going to make a statement like that regarding the Xbox One, then you'd have to also apply it to the PS4. I've seen actual Xbox Ones running actual Xbox One games that look impressive, as have others. I'm still really suspicious about the new ryse vidoc, however, but that's another matter.

MS should be glad people are focusing on this instead of the price difference . Everyone might not understand teraflops but they know what $100 is.

I am pretty sure this problem happened last gen, when people would say to wait for the PS3 because it's going to be far more powerful than the 360. Let's see how the games actually turn out.

This sentence makes absolutely no sense.

I'll translate. I speak PR Bullshit: "Look idiots, its not just about the CPU, GPU, RAM anymore. That's so 2003. The Xbone is about the cloud and secret sauce and other stuff that we can't point to right now. But trust us, it's there!"

Yes because "dance console monkeys" is very constructive.

In a way it sort of is, if it manages to make people realize how silly it is to get emotionally invested in comparing minute differences in platforms that are built from the ground up with compromises as their main priority.

...not that i believe that was the intent behind posting that pic, as it was most likely just for teh funniez.

And to think this situation could have completely been avoided if they hadn't doubled-down on Kinect. Hell just include an internal microphone for voice commands... It would have been interesting to see what kind of box it could be without it.

I'd rather wait a year then decide now which system is weaker. By then there will be enough games out to really know what's true about their performance.

Its hard to just believe game journalists now. Just look at how easily high profile games get perfect scores (only to later find out they are mediocre retreads of safe gameplay ideas). How are pre-release evaluations of consoles any different?

When they said "PS4 is your next game console", they were completely dropping their objectivity. Without a good library of games on EITHER side, to call the match before its over makes their guess only as good as anyone else's.

This is pretty hilarious and Sony is getting free marketing because of all this.

Just sitting in back sipping champagne while the media and Microsoft duke it out.

Translation: Our system has, and will have, unbelievable looking games. We wipe our asses with the numbers. Look at the games. :P

I'm sure they were sipping champagne when most sites said the exact same thing regarding the PS3 vs Xbox 360, too. :P

I kid. I know the circumstances are a lot different this time. Sony actually have a real and more meaningful advantage this time. I still don't think it will show up like people think it will, but it will be fun to see what ends up happening. It'll be slightly lower resolution most likely for Xbox One with near identical and indistinguishable graphical differences. People will be left arguing over pixel counting and DF analysis. ;)

The thing is this isn't something we decide or wait and see. One console has the clear spec advantage. It's factual and definite.

It's .1% more constructive than your whining.

Its actually not, his sentiment is one many people share..
the PC is LIMITLESS as long as you have the money to make it so, whats the point in reminding console gamers who ACCEPT limits, that they have those limits?
Its pointless, and in my opinion just a reflex defense mechanism to none of the attention being on PC's since dang near every PC title seems to be coming out on one of the big 2 next gen consoles.

It depends on how you define multitasking. PS4 I'm assuming is just like PS3 in that its a game machine that also has multimedia functionality. Like Netflix.

I would define multitasking as being able to do more than one thing simultaneously. That hdmi input with snap allows a host of capabilities that can not be duplicated on PS4. But, yes if you don't have a cable/sat box that feature would be of no use to you. Edit: Although Major Nelson has said you can plug another device such as XB360 (which he said he has done) in the hdmi input.

In some ways, they are right. The Xbiox will have some very good looking games.

No one said it will not have good looking games, all they are saying PS4 games are going to look better lol, I think MS has missed the point, yes Xbox One games will look amazing, but PS4 will look even better and for a cheaper price that is the what everyone is saying.

This guys makes a good point, people.
Listen to him.

The snap feature is of no use to anyone with a smartphone or tablet. It's the stupidest feature MS is trying to push.

Let me please take up a third of my screen with a shitty web browser! Gold, Jerry, Gold!

To be totally honest, I think it's just PC gamer catharsis after months of gibbering Sony-pony nonsense about EIGHT MOTHERFUCKING GIGABYTES OF RAM; how it would revolutionise gaming, cure cancer and solve world hunger.

The specs really would not matter if the two consoles were priced the same but, they are not. Microsoft's problems are they did not go far enough with the multimedia box and they have not shown so far why the kinect is worth being packed in with the console. Sure it is nice that it integrates with live tv with hdmi passthrough but, it would have been better if the box was actually a cable box or iptv box and the customer would not have to have a separate box to take advantage of the live tv integration.

Why is kinect so important? what makes it so special that it has to be packed in with the xbox one thus raising the price of the system? Those are the questions Microsoft should be answering not questions about specs. When the Wii took off for Nintendo they had a tangible example of why the wiimote was special and why they were going the direction they were going. Microsoft continues to mess up on this key point and it may very well be the xbox one's downfall unless they release a later sku that does not have kinect packed in and cut the price.

What are you talking about? Sony hasn't said a thing about this, Microsoft's the one doing all the talking and they're doing it against facts.

I was going to mention this exact thing lol. Sony has barely ever mentioned much save for Conferences/Shows, etc.

They are in the business of selling magazines and driving traffic to their site for advertising revenue not giving sage advice about console power.

In the times before the 180 sites where crawling over each other to be more sensationalist to get some extra hits.

We should pay attention when these developers are willing to be named , those who are seem to paint a much more comparable picture which judging by footage shown of each seems to fit much better.

If the vita is anything to go by, yes, the PS4 will have multitasking as in doing more than one task at a time.

You missed the point where I said that cost was the issue and that the XB1 needed to be priced at $350. That would be $50 less than the PS4.

I was simply responding to the tendency to downplay everything MS has done for the XB1. The Kinect is a nice piece of hardware. Skype will be a selling point for some. Integration with live TV has to be put on the plus side if you are counting positives and negatives. Give MS the credit they are do. The system will do, yield issues aside, what they set out to do. If you looked at that XB1 without looking at the price, you'd have to say it was a nice product. It is the price that is tripping it up.

Wow the GIFs at the moment do not disappoint. This and the new Banderas GIF are awesome.

I don't have an artistic bone in my body, well maybe my middle finger on my right hand, but after seeing the work done on these GIFs I want to learn how to do them so I can join the party. Great GIFs guys.
