Going into a thread having read nothing more than the thread title and the OP, not reading whatever the OP links to or any replies, and then dropping a one-liner that was tired five topics ago. At least Ctrl+F through the thread and realize you are the tenth person to make a Kickstarter joke in a thread with Penny Arcade in the title/fifth person to make a PRISM or NSA joke in a Microsoft thread/whatever.

Going into a thread having read nothing more than the thread title and the OP, not reading whatever the OP links to or any replies, then asking a question that has been asked and answered three times a page for the past five pages.

Really it's just people who seem to think threads only really start when they show up. I get not having time to read everything in a huge thread, or a fast-moving thread, but at least skim the first and last couple of pages to get an idea of the conversation.
This happens way too often on the gaming side. It's either asking the same question over and over or pointing out something in a screenshot and asking "Has anyone noticed...." while at least three other people on the same page already asked the same thing.
Double post are two posts made back to back by the same person.

1) I make a post.

2) You make a post after me.

3) I reply to you in this post instead of going back up to edit my post with your reply in #1.

It's not a double post and it's annoying as it throws off the flow.
Oh, I get what you're saying now. Yeah, that is annoying. I thought you meant doing what I did with this and filling it in in a post after the one you made.

This is such a great example I have to think this dude is doing it on purpose.

But for real, the whole IMO needs to go. I get it. It's your opinion, no need to preface it.

The use of the word "Hyperbole". It's very annoying now and are just being used out of context all the time. If someone is exaggerating... Just say that. I hate seeing the word Hyperbole.. It just annoys me.

Another thing is when people say "Keep fighting the good fight".. Please. Put up an argument or reply with something sensible or constructive than just derailing the argument in question. Absolutely annoying.

It has to be intentional because the number of characters in a line (at least on this forum and any other one that scales to the window size) varies based on how large the window is so no matter how the text is received, even on a phone, it will automatically format the line to fit the space without the user needing to define it.

Hmm, I suppose you're right. But yeah, I do see one guy doing that, so wow.

Have you seen titanfall?

Oh yeah, this too. I never thought that was funny.

No problem. ThoseDeafMutes made an example of what I meant in his post above mine. Heh.

Where the fuck do I begin?

Starting a serious thread title with "So,"...
"So, my car just exploded and killed my whole family..."
"So, I just died in a plane crash..."

People who start their post with "Wrong!", especially when the the subject is subjective.

People who write "Am I the only one...". No, I can assure you whatever you're thinking you are not alone.

People who use 'lol' in a purely dismissive or derisive manner. Which is pretty much everyone here. lol.

People who make huge assumptions about other posters from the smallest of pieces of information...
A: "I don't like strawberries."
B: "Well I guess that means you're a bitter old fuck who hates happiness and wallows in the misery you cause on a daily basis by your petty refusal to enjoy strawberries. People like you make me sick."

People who use "Well I guess..." in a disingenuous manner in an attempt to paint another poster as a 'bad guy'.
A: "I disagree with you vehemently!"
B: "Well, I guess that makes me an evil idiot then!"

People who genuinely believe that if put in a dangerous or difficult situation they would act in an entirely measured and level-headed manner...
"If MY wife spontaneously combusted I'd simply put her out and get on with my life. I don't see why it's such a problem for the OP."
"If I was held hostage I'd simply escape and punish my captor by way of revenge. I really don't understand why OP didn't do that. It's not rocket science!"

The punishers...
"If I caught a 40 year old man glancing at my daughter for more than 1 second I'd cut off his balls, kill his parents, blow up his hometown and kick his dog. And that's just for starters..."

People who describe horrific crimes in thread titles...
"Man accused of raping a fetus with a rusty blunt butterknife."

I could continue but fuck it.

Hyperbole and strawman. Everything is a strawman argument apparently.

Also, bootstraps. Someone recently said that advice of "leave your house and find friends" was bootstraps talk.

"Am I the only one who..."

"am I the only one that [thinks pretty common thought] [remembers cult video game or movie] [self-congratulatory description of thought or action]"

"AM I THE ONLY..." threads

We are aware that this is a problem and have taken a few measures to try to lower the number of threads that have titles like this. You should notice an improvement on a go-forward basis.

.gif spam. sick of herewego.gif and sogood.gif and the like. it's boring and adds nothing to the convo.

I very much agree. Reaction GIFs have gotten really really popular everywhere online, to the point that half the time they're barely even saying anything. It's really frustrating to see someone post a good article or offer a sincere review of something or whatever and then just see a succession of jokerpopcorn antoniobanderassatisfied planesunset hip-hopguybeingpushedaround likeaboss hatersgonnahate bugsbunnyflorida stuff.

Spoilers don't post spoilers of this don't post spoilers of that

omg I'll have a heart attack if you spoil this.

I don't like when people fawn over the first post (reply, really) for no reason. Sometimes it's warranted, but at other times the posts seem totally irrelevant and yet still are repeatedly quoted with "ONE AND DONE" and etc.

I see a guy who always posts like that. I often wonder if that's intentional or maybe it's something with his phone or something.

I feel bad for naming names, but do you mean this guy? This is one of my pet-peeves too.

Posting scientific studies that seem to agree with your point but only because you've read the abstract and not the study itself, knowing nothing about methodology or not reading the reviews of said study.

How to read and understand a scientific paper: a guide for non-scientists

How to Read a Scientific Paper (pdf)

One of the reviewers for a conf paper I submitted just regurgitated three lines from the abstract and added "it was interesting" onto the end.

"Am I the only one...."
"Is it just me or..."

There are 7 billion people on this planet. I'm pretty sure somebody somewhere has thought the same thing you do.

List threads where people post a picture of something without explaining what it is or what it's from.

I agree. Even if I'm familiar with something, it doesn't mean I can recognize every single screen cap. I could ignore all other bad posting habits if people would stop doing this.

1. Thread titles that are completed in the body of the first post
Eg. "What would happen if..."

2. Gaming threads discussing themes that are horribly over specific
Eg. "Games with non linear stories and time travel and the antagonist and protagonist switch places to solve block puzzles."

Yeah I know these are dumb complaints.

When people condemn a entire country/state/city, due to a heinous crime having been committed there.

/annoyed Florida resident ;P

Sorry, I can't see who you're talking about with that link. The guy I had in mind was the person in the Rayman Legends OT who's always going on about how the game's a major disappointment and such.

Signatures or signoff phrases. Any of that gimmickry. Your name is right by your post and signing off on a message board is like giving a farewell salute to a McDonald's clerk.

saying "kind sir" "good sir" or "you're a gentleman and a scholar" or any of that kind of thing in every post/status/email/whatever in response to anyone else.

shut up
Aren't you a humorless chap.

People who make threads and disappear when the thread pertains to them.

People who can't use the search function or Google.

When Person A posts in a thread

Then Person B posts in the same thread

Then Person A posts right after Person B, only they've quoted someone from a page back.

Why did you need to separate your post like that?

OP's who don't update the first post also I can't stand. They spend all this time on it before the fucking event and then it's just like "you guys take care of it!"

yup, if they're gonna make a live stream thread and don't update the OP for people then they shouldn't have even bothered.

-When people ignore the whole OT and post based on the information in the thread title alone. The fuck are you doing?

-When people ask questions like "Who?" or anything that could be answered by Google faster than it takes to wait for someone to reply to you. The fuck are you doing?! And somewhat related:

-When people enter a thread related to something they dislike or have no interest in to let people know that they dislike it or have no interest in it. THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!

I forgot.

People who use those random people faces as some kind of expression.

Words = Great
Picture = Funny
GIF = Often Hilarious.
Badly cut out Photoshop of some random guy, that's so low quality that you can't see the face, hence having no idea what the expression is supposed to be = Fucking sucks.

Also I'm one of the people that tend to format short paragraphs, it's mostly because Mobile Gaf.
