Just to clarify at 30 you get specializations and those are dependent on the initial class you started ? for example I'm a marauder so I'd unlock gladiator and warrior and paladin or?

What's after that?

So after playing the beta in june, I finally decided to download my 1.0 legacy free game. :D
I played as only the Lancer, and was hoping to get up to Dragoon but it never happened.
Anyways, I am back to play it now. The question is, which class should I aim for? I really like Dragoon's, and Paladins. Should I aim for Dragoon by leveling a Lancer and Maruder? Or a Paladin which consists of Gladiator and Conjurer?
Or should I aim for a Warrior?
I want to tank, so it looks like I am in for Paladin or Warrior. Which one? D:

Paladin is generally regarded as the better endgame tank, purely because of their mitigation. But Warrior is also a perfectly viable tank, and they excel in holding aggro on lots of mobs, which Paladin is quite lacking in.

Generally speaking, WAR is better for levelling, while Paladin is better at lvl 50.

Thank you. Ah, for my love of FFIV, I will roll with a Paladin. Thank you.

Do you mean reckoning? You don't need to hide behind the rocks for that, it doesn't do anything. Usually best just to regroup on the west side in anticipation of the tornadoes. Tank should be at the NW corner the rest should be on the west side. Separate yourself as far from Garuda as possible so you don't get hit with slipstream. Want the OT to tank the adds over west too so they're on opposite sides and you aren't AoE'd to death. Got a few Garuda kills in tonight for some gaffers.

Ah ok. The main reason I like he stack isn't for the los, it's for the aoe healing. You're gonna be moving in a group anyway so there's no reaon not to, and ppl who might not know exactly where to go can follow those that do. They should naturally be in a clump anyway if they aren't tanking right? If gives time before the adds pop to keep everyone stable since if they wait too long the adds will rush over to them and mess em up if they AoE heal.

Well, for jobs, which are class specializations, you need 30 in one classand 15 in another job. For example, WAR is unlocked by 30 Marauder and 15 Gladiator. PLD, the other tank, is from 30 Gladiator and 15 CNJ. BRD is 30 ARC and 15 PUG, and so on. Each one has different requirements.

After that, when you level that job (in this case WAR), the base class (marauder) is also leveled as well. Moreover, if you level Marauder, WAR is leveled also, so when you unlock you job it will be 30 just like your base class. Jobs tend to have less cross class skill options than classes do so there's reasons to want to switch back while soloing, even if job base stats are usually higher. In ACN's case they even get a job in an entirely different role (and personal speculation is they might be doing the same with other classes in the future to diversity role selection more).

Basically, im a level 10 GLD and really just doing missions for people who have them but I have no clue what else I should be doing really?

Like main quests type of stuff

When would be the time to join a linkshell or party group

Different spells or special moves, how are these obtained

Events? What are they for and what do they do

Major battles or enemies that are part of the main story, is it too soon to worry about that?

Basically im asking for some hand holding when it comes down to it, I feel like a complete noob and been out of the loop until the beta and this game was actually coming to fruition after all the mess its been thru!

Just keep progressing with the main storyline quests and the game will start to introduce you to parties, dungeons, etc. The game does a decent job of hand-holding in that regard. A linkshell is basically a chat room. Trying finding a linkshell with helpful and friendly people to guide you through the early stages of the game.

Ooh Vero D:

I can't decide to spend tomes on gear now and see if that helps with Titan or save them for relic / af+1.

Yeah, I mean you can still tell everyone to stack up when you're against the west wall. Maybe throw a target on top of a party member as a reminder. And yeah, ranged should be far enough from Garuda / adds that they're not hit with any stray attacks, so usually somewhere in the middle.

I think AF+1 only adds plus 2 to the stats in the relic weapon, plus 1 damage. If you have a level 60 armor piece it might bring more benefit to upgrade it to a level 90 piece.

Endgame sounds pretty life-consuming and, unlike FFXI, you have to do content in tight and narrow order. Wonder how long I'll last.

You can go ahead and remove me (Flecko Fleck in game) from the FC to make room for more. A gil spammer got hold of my account and got me suspended - at least that's what I put together, based on the new character that showed up on a random server in the mog station. Probably my fault for not using the authenticator thing.

According to reddit it's pretty widespread, and I can expect to wait at least a week to find out if they can unfreeze it, between this an unrelated older support ticket they still haven't answered I don't think I'll be giving them my credit card even if they do sort this one out.

I think the Duty timer makes it so you don't spend hours upon hours trying.

You still need preparation to do the end game stuff. Although a lot of the end game is also incredibly gated.

I disagree. It's boring as shit. INSANELY BORING. I mean, if we have hard mode version of ALL the dungeon, and they all gave comparable tokens, then fine. That's enough variety for me to grind this stuff up. When I have to run FF14 in windowed mode so I can watch Netflix while doing token runs so I don't die of boredom then there is obviously a huge flaw. I don't have a problem with the amount, I have a problem with the lack of variety. I mean look at the level up process in this game: Story quests, Class Quests, Side Quests, Fates, Leves, Guildhests, Dungeons, Trials, changing of zones every 2-3 hours. Compare that to end game and you can see how this is night and day worse. This isn't some argument against the effort or amount required, its the complete lack of variety.

I agree entirely. The thing is, they have a structure in place to support a larger variety, AK and the Relic quest just ends up cannibalizing everything else. Theres no reason to grind out the Grand Company, crafting, Odin, WP, or Behemoth gear when AF is good enough to do AK, and Keep drops gear that is superior to all that stuff before you even consider tokens. Ifrit weapon is a big help, but there is little reason to grind out Garuda and especially Titan weapons since the relic weapon is far better.

What underlines all these issues is the decision to hold back Crystal Tower so that they could add DF functionality. It was suppose to be the entry level raid that prepares you for Bahamut's Coil. My guess is that an 11th hour decision was made to buff drops/tokens from AK without much testing or thought into what gear progression would look like. I really wish they would have just added CT (they said it was finished) and patched in DF later; without Df it could have been something that really brought server/FC communities together.

I wonder just how are the gil sellers getting ahold of so many accounts right now.

Probably some of them got a hold of a user name database and they been trying brute force attacks on those accounts.

This coming from what people with the security token have mention about getting warnings that their accounts had multiple failures attempts to login.

The usual. Always happens with major MMOs. Lots of different ways for them to do so unfortunately. Most basic is people clicking on links from forums or websites that gets a keylogger put onto their pc.

A part of this is because of the gear/attribute design in this game. You are basically chasing item level the whole way through. You are not making your own set of gear based on choices or customization.

Im more disappointed in the fact that the GC gear is better than HQ crafts and such. Which takes away from potential sales for players on the market and what not.

Since everyone is grinding the fuck out of FATEs too to progress its not like people have a shortage of seals to purchase things either.

A lot of the equipment balancing seems a bit fubar in that sense.

reeaaaally wish there were dye shops everywhere... these quest gear...

oh well!

Thats why you make your own with crafting and keep it on you. Or just buy surplus. Since the market is pretty much crashed out everywhere, it shouldnt be that expensive. Id reckon around 300-500gil per dye of the crafted ones. Used to be around 1000+ before.

Is anyone else getting pm's from these dam gill sellers. Shit is getting annoying they took over all the Shout chat

Granted it blocks friends too, but set yourself to BUSY mode. Since it blocks tells. Downside once again is it blocks everyone from sending you tells.

But if your buddies are in a linkshell no big deal there for communication.

Once you get out of said problematic area, blacklist all the names, then switch yourself back to online status mode.

The leveling system via fates is literally the stupidest thing I've ever seen in a video game ever. You spend 80% of the time staring at a map waiting for a blue circle to pop 18% of the remaining time running from one spot to the next and 2% of the time trying to attack mobs that usually die before you get there. Unfortunately I can't seem to figure out any good way to level at 40. Running dungeons over and over is slow and ALMOST as boring and guildhests are one time things and my hunting logs are done. Seriously FATES are so stupid it makes me want to just not bother playing.

Unfortunately thats about all there is to do to get yourself to 50. Granted Shinta has said that parties that also go around chalking mobs while waiting for fates nets decent exp too. But if you are flying solo, then yeah its FATE mania.

Quite unfortunate.

Guild Wars 2 seemed to have it balanced decent between their world events and killing monsters.

Ive pretty much stopped at 49 for the exact same reasons. Really dont want to spend several hours doing what you exactly explained to reach 50. Then again could be worse, could be how leveling was in 11. Dear god

I actually don't think spending seals is a good idea right now. Higher ranks may unlock much better gear.

I agree, except running dungeons over and over is nowhere near as boring. It can't be overstated how bad it is. Makes the game look like a piece of crap just by existing. Certainly wouldn't let a single player game off the hook for this nonsense. Functionally busted (looks/works like an unimaginably bad musuo game made by the devil), brain-dead in content (would be putting it lightly), and all around displeasing just by existing.

There's one vendor in the entire game that sells Undyed Cotton Cloth. I've made 100K gil this week buying stacks from him and selling them on the Market for 3X the price. 9,500 Gil profit per stack.

I haven't even been doing this seriously either, because my job has been nuts. Just logging in once in the morning and once in the evening to re-up my auctions.

This will end eventually as people wise up (and thanks to posts like this) but eh... I'm unlikely to sub to FF XIV for more than probably another month or two, so I'm just happy I had some money-making fun.

Just realized chimera is the boss of cutter dungeon.

So damn confusing when people are spamming party. Just say the dungeon name.

If it's just a boss fight it's fine.

I can see how someone would buy the Undyed Cotton clothes, takes some time to make them, but I always make them all by myself.

After leveling to 50 and experiencing the first few end-game dungeons as a tank, I have no interest in playing a melee DPS in this game. Almost every group has 2-3 Monks or Dragoons who either can't do good damage because they can't get in the right position, or die because they try to do their rotation properly. But, none of the casters seem to make sense as a female Hellsguard. Arcanist gear in particular looks completely ludicrous.
