Posting an image (of a game, film, whatever) without providing any context as to what it actually is. Especially annoying in any "best game" threads

Can't stand it when people seek advice on serious irl situations on forums and expect a good answer.

It's the internet.

Some people, myself included, give honest and genuine advice. The ratio is off, but people still get good advice from forums and the like. Not everyone is a jerk :p

- pages of reaction gifs after one post. related: you're going to be banned etc type posts after a rule breaking post, also related: mods publicly talking about how they're banning someone
- bad thread titles (not telling you what's in the thread, title saying something somewhat different to what's written in the op so people reply to different things, outrageous statements to get people in)
- posts in list threads with no explanation (i know i've done it before many times, but it's a chore to read through)
- people tediously complaining in threads with thread titles like 'am i the only one' as if a figure of speech means they literally think that
- lttp threads when someone has just started or is about to start things. waste of my time.

+ signing posts is kinda of quaint and fun. i like how much something so innocuous winds people up. i'd consider doing it if i didn't dislike the the aesethic of it personally. i do think it works better if all your posts are considered and thoughful like fnordchan's though.

Didn't really mean it that way.

More so meant the people who ask for serious advice and then act surprised when someone tells them to try cocaine.

Ah, well, yeah, I suppose some people don't understand how the internets work. Just ignore/laugh at the silly/bad advice, and move on to responding in earnest to the good advice.

Yeah, you do. I actually enjoy reading threads where people give sincere responses. Some get cluttered with stupid responses. I'll post some ridiculous stuff, but I'll give actual advice under a spoiler tag or something.

People who come in the middle of a thread and ask for a "quick summary". Spend some time skimming at least. If it's a thread involving a political or ethical debate, the "summary" you get will invariably be slanted. And if it's just a fun wacko GAF thread, good folks like Lionel Mandrake have probably already summarized it at the top of the page.

Another one I thought of that isn't as big a deal as the stuff I posted earlier, but I find people posting in a thread for the singular purpose of correcting someone's spelling or grammar incredibly annoying. Yes, good grammar and spelling is important. No, you don't need to come in and make yourself appear superior by pointing out a mistake.

I don't mind this one bit. I like investigating, and considering how much time I've spent on internet gaming forums for the past decade, I am always intrigued when I find an unknown.

Oh, also during piracy talks, the posters that do nothing but scream "nanana piracy is wrong nanana" and refuse to even look at the issue analytically really bug me.

When music or literature threads turn contain lots of posts with pictures.

Once a picture is posted, all the following posters feel they must post pics as well--in order for their post to 'stand out' or be as 'loud' as the previous ones (even though the thread has nothing to do with visuals--it's about music, for instance).

Some threads should just have pictures turned off. They only distract and prevent actual discussion.

I'm sure someone has already said this, but people who quote something someone said with "OMG, YOU WIN THREAD." "THANK YOU GOOD SIR, YOU WIN" "WELL DONE."

And it's just quoted a million fucking times with the same nerd response. Makes my blood boil.

The people who enter food threads to act like snobs.

Thread: "Hey GAF, what's your favorite thing to get at Burger King?"
Poster: "Uh why would you eat that trash? Everyone knows the only place it's acceptable to get food from this one off restaurant that only I can go to. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know anything."

No one asked you your opinion on that. At all. The question was, "What's your favorite thing at ______ restaurant?" Not, "Come in here and post about shit completely unrelated to the thread title."

I also hate people that just shit out the standard responses of a picture of South Park, or some other show, that had something tangentially related. Even if it was 100% related? Who gives a fuck? Come up with something on your own instead of regurgitating the humor of something else that you, and everyone else saw. Think about it. If it's that obvious to you, don't you think that the people who saw the exact same shit thought of the same thing? Why do we need your post?

People that take a general thought/statement, and then add "But... but..." all sarcastically in front of it.

Example:
Thread: Nintendo makes money
But... but... I thought Nintendo was doomed!

People that /thread, especially if they /thread a post they made themself.

Gets my blood boiling.

I very much agree. Reaction GIFs have gotten really really popular everywhere online, to the point that half the time they're barely even saying anything. It's really frustrating to see someone post a good article or offer a sincere review of something or whatever and then just see a succession of jokerpopcorn antoniobanderassatisfied planesunset hip-hopguybeingpushedaround likeaboss hatersgonnahate bugsbunnyflorida stuff.

For me this is a double edged sword as we have a bunch of really good Gif makers on GAF (sunhilegend .El Torro etc...) who do make some awesome stuff that should be praised but the problem is that once those are posted you can guarantee that the next two pages or more is full of posts quoting that GIF to praise it while at the same time derailing the whole thread.

Someone makes a joke or pun or something and people spending the next few pages quoting it over and over, saying how appalled they are and that 'this type of thing should be bannable' and crying that it derails the thread all the while ignoring the actual topic and not contributing at all.

These kind if threads are annoying too because they make everyone who posts in them seem like a uptight prick. Including me.

I cannot stand post topics which reference some TV or obscure anime character as if the message board were based around that show.

"Why didn't Kenji defeat GManX in the third battle?"

These people always get ignored.

So basically we fucking hate nerds /thread

nerds and the BCT. Basically GAF is some hatin motherfuckers.

Too add on to your food point, people that say whatever place gives them the shits or have fun on the toilet. I mean really, do you have a stomach made out of paper?
