The Fall Classic | Fighting Game Tournament | September 14-15

I think them doing their own thing and allowing this event to grow organically was the point.
Yeah. I think for a debut tournament it has pretty good numbers too, basing off of Marvel numbers alone. I think this is more about seeing where this goes instead of having a goal of reaching as many attendants, etc. as EVO.

I mean One Frame Link might not be able to throw in tens of grands every year, so it's going to be interesting how sponsorship scales too next year (especially considering all the backlash EVO got for the payout going down overall).

So I pretty much missed today. Anything sick happen that I should catch in the archives/youtube? It seems the overall opinion is that the internet blew and really killed some of the hype?

Some of the marvel matches were really good (ChrisG vs ShadyK, SomeBrownKid vs Flocker), but a lot of it was laggy. It might be better to wait for them to put the matches on youtube.

Other than the shitty net I don't see many negatives to the event. The matches have been good in all the events and everything's been running on time. Maybe there's a lack of international comp but I think that's been pretty consistent for US tournaments over the last year outside of Evo. I've enjoyed the event so far and hope it grows next year.

Just got home from the event. To summarize my experience, I've never been so free in my life.

-I went something like 0-15 in casuals against 3 different guys. One Geif and 2 Bison's. They were just much better than me and I got bodied hard in many of those matches. The Bison matches just felt frustrating as hell as these guys got me to the corner quickly and made my life a living hell.

-I got DQ'd from both my matches in SF4. When I entered the ball room, I saw a bunch of set ups for AE and I thought that was it. Me not really giving a damn about anything else, I didn't wander off to check out the rest of the ball room. Several hours later I run into a guy and we talk about our pools. He tells me that mines already started and might be over already. It turns out that there were more SF4 stations on the other side of the room that's separated by the seats where the audience can sit down to watch the main stream. I had no idea and because it's so loud in there, I couldn't hear them even if they were shouting my name out loud.

-I figure I should play at least one more set of casuals just to try and make up for the DQ. I ask a couple of guys and they decide to do a long set before changing(FT5). They finish and coincidentally they announce the start of the next set of pools so they kick off everybody playing casuals

-So I'm walking out with my head low. Then I spot the mod station. I've always wanted to do that select button mod so I can plink jab. I ask him about it and he says he'll do it for $5. I told him that I'm going to get money. I get back and a girl is there and told me that he had just left to play some ST matches. Where? I have no idea.

The end, I drive 2 and a half hours back home to post this :*(

That sucks man, sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

The tournament itself was pretty good IMO. The room was roomy enough to hold the lot of us and it was a packed house for the most part which made it feel grander. Getting bodied was bound to happen, just not as badly as I had expected. And then all the bad luck on top of things didn't help at all.

So much for repping GAF in the Capcom Cup lol. I'll do better next year with dem USF4 Evil Ryu buffs.

I've always thought they should make a Street Fighter based off of Kimbo Slice. Just straight disrespectful punch-a-motherfuckers-eye-and-or-ear-out street brawl style.

Him? He was pretty underwhelming once he had decent competition and he never the showed the improvement that Lesnar did.

Eh, never really cared for his professional career. That's not what made him cool/special in the first place.

I can't think of an existing SF character with his style either; home grown, concrete jungle backyard brawling and tanking. I think it'd make a cool character, he's certainly got a distinct look and iconicity to him too.

The one criticism I'd make is how poverty and regular games were split up hard. So if you wanted to play poverty- if you had tournies going on during the same time, you had to shuttle between two players that were pretty far- was a nightmare for TOs and players who were into that.

The arcade/poverty side of things was awesome though, if I did go next year- it would be for that and not for tourney- I'd probably just buy a spec badge. It's either that or you need to set a rule about poverty tournies so they don't conflict (maybe run them on Sunday or late Saturday night.)

THat said, my own performance, I was disinterested and terrible- I'm not sure I'll continue with participating in FGC events. It's not that I'm mad at anyone, it's just I feel like I'm lacking the hunger. I did enjoy meeting some folks though, and props to Tony Majors for fixing the D button so I could play real man's KOF.

That's why I said if, but I assume so because of ECT/Final Round electing not to be part of the Road to Evo this year.

I always assumed that ECT/FR were supposed to be doing something with IPL before that whole thing fell through and that's why they weren't Road to Evo events.
Any good bets in Marvel or Street Fighter going on? FChamp gonna win this one if it's him vs Rayray and Flocker vs ChrisG.
flocker might collude in chrisg's favor this time

With Justin Wong out and PRRog in losers, FChamp has a legitimate shot at the title. He does alright against Flocker, at least he wins against him in long sets and FChamp has been downloading ChrisG for quite a while now. This might be his first big win in a while (well he won Lanhammer but that was barely a regional).

If Flocker beats ChrisG, FChamp is gonna win so free.
