When posters write with double spaces.

Like this.

As if one line break isn't enough.

It just makes it as hard to read as no paragraph breaks.

It's a typewriter holdover, people.

I double line my paragraphs, because that's how I was trained to do it. I also double space after a period.

Is that not the right thing anymore?

I think maybe he's complaining that each paragraph is a single sentence. If each paragraph were two or three sentences, maybe it wouldn't look as weird?

I dunno. You're absolutely supposed to double-space between paragraphs. It looks shitty if you don't.

People fucking up their/there/they're or your/you're and not knowing where to put apostrophes in the sentences they make (ex. kids/kid's/kids').

Oh, and the attention-seekers who are compelled to put three or four spaces between each line of text so everybody will be sure to see it.

Basically the whole board is getting ripped on but I still find it hilarious because a lot of it is true. I'm still a new member here, but I've been lurking on a steady basis since 2008 or so and I actually agree with about 80% of the complaints. They don't necessarily annoy the hell out of me, there's just a lot of stupid "gafish" type memes and styles that a lot of users copy and totally run into the ground and I don't really see the appeal of it. I mean I don't really see the benefit of observing posts that contain nothing but gifs that became stale here a long time ago ( for examples the ones with Nicholas Cage laughing his ass off, or the Joker here we go gif). I don't understand the appeal of using the latest shitty internet slang fad either, but then again I am old and am probably just really cranky
.
I still enjoy the board a lot because of gaming news, many interesting discussions and topics, and it is frequently hilarious so yay there's something positive I have to say

I prefer how you wrote this post. I'm not really sure what he wants?
This? This is dumb without an indent.

Yeah, I don't get it either =p

Unless he's talking about double spacing every single sentence, regardless of whether or not its intended to be a new paragraph (which is something I've never even seen -- i.e. a whole paragraph, taken apart sentence by sentence and separated by double spaces....instead of being joined together in one block)

Eh. I agree with Devolution; without an indent, you should space between paragraphs. If it's just the one-line thing, I get the annoyance (though I do it, sometimes, because I want -pauses-). But the two-spaces after is definitely becoming archaic. It's one of the things gets edited out a lot these days in publishing. On a forum? I don't care; do what feels best, I guess.

(but that's how I feel about a lot of these)

The shitty puns after the |OT| in official topics. It's like first posts in dumb news threads, but in the topic list.

On the flip side, I hate it when |OT| topic titles take themselves way too seriously and or make them out to be like it's the best game ever despite never playing it yet.

Anyone have a link to that thread where the guy had a signature that was this huge thing where he had links to his site, pictures, and so on. He got banned but it was kind of hilarious.

A lot of people seem to be doing away with indent too; I've read a few books lately where there isn't an indent, just the double space.

Double space with fixed width fonts, like on a typewriter. Single space with variable width fonts, like on modern word processors.

But it looks weird!

Sorry, I'll always do it. It's just a thing for me. Stuff looks incredibly weird without the double space to me. And somehow wrong. I am not that old, am I? Computers were around when I was in school!

Computers are conspiring against you here. HTML rendering concactenates whitespace to a single space, and Microsoft Word autocorrects double spacing to single.

I think most people do it to avoid double posting.
The situation requires a post to quote that has been made after the one being edited, so double posting in this fashion is impossible.

1 Person A
2 Person B
3 Person A, quoting post 2

vs

1 Person A, edit with quote of post 2
2 Person B

It's even worse when more posts come between 1 and 2.

Prequoting is a blight against humanity.

Most of the major annoyances I find have already been mentioned on here. I will throw my voice behind the increasingly annoying "am I the only one who" and "first post nails it" things.

Yes, it's super annoying when someone writes like this.

Double spacing each sentence.

Rather than simply using paragraphs the way they were meant to be used.

It's clearly meant to be attention grabbing but it just makes it doubly hard to read.

There should be some kind of mod warning about it.

They always slip through though.

Sneaky.

Similar to the debate of paragraphs:

Sorry, man. It was too easy. :P

Oh, I remember now.

I just bought a game, GAF, should I play it?

GAF, convince me to buy "game console"

I just bought the Mass Effect trilogy, GAF, which one should I play first?

I'm sure there are a bunch of other memes or whatever these count as that are posted way too often but these are the two I see most often. It's just a really lazy attempt at getting a laugh at this point.

People complaining about spoilers in a spoiler thread. Forcing people to use spoiler tags in a spoiler thread.

I tried to love this game, but I don't. I actually think it sucks. Please tell me it gets better.
I really like this comic.

Actually this reminds me of someone who used to post everything in italics. There wasn't anything inherently wrong about it, but it was kind of strange.

Unfortunately it climaxed in being banned, although it seems he's back.
Good for him.

...Wait, did I do that?

I get tired of contrarian GAF. Wish I had a do over machine and could post a dislike thread and a like thread for the same subject.

Subject:"I like m&ms"

Replies: worst chocolate ever
tastes like rabbit shit
die

Subject:"I don't like m&ms"

Replies: best chocolate ever
food of the gods
die

It feels like people argue just to rail on ANY opinion, not a specific one.

Other than that, gifs are great but seeing the same one reused and quoted 70 times on 100pp pretty much keeps me out of the gaming side. I'm looking at you Antonio Banderas.

It's one thing to disagree with someone but its another to be so cynical and condescending to show how obviously superior you are to someone am I right guys is anyone reading this?

Being clever. I'm guilty of this. But someone is clever and FIRST?! Time to quote quote quote!

#dead. Childish. Like 12 year old childish.

Animated gifs of "you salty" are not valid rebuttal and are barely an opinion.

Endless moderator quoting is tiring. That's mostly gaming side.

Berating someone's brand preference is tiring. That's mostly gaming side.

Gaming side is tiring. That's gaming side.

I don't see it often I must admit, but what irritates me most is when somebody makes an announcement that they're putting a particular user on their ignore list. Often accompanied by a remark such as "Why didn't I have you on ignore? I do now!"

What does that contribute to anything?

--First post racing to make a pun, which usually derails the thread from the get-go.

--Posters who clearly are responding to thread titles, rather than the OP.

--Quoting giant .gifs even though it's been quoted a half dozen times directly above them.

--Thread titles that in no way describe the subject, or just tease something. Example: "Hey guys..."

--"Oh you like that thing? I hate that thing. That thing sucks."

Mostly happens in OT, but when 4-5 pages are posting about a pun on page 1. It's annoying by that point.

That and gifs being reported like crazy. Makes Chrome run like crap and it sucks on a mobile device.

For some reason, the replies "BOMBA!" and "MEGATON!" annoy the shit out of me. It's like the poster doesn't have enough IQ to actually type out something more meaningful like "Oh wow, that's something totally unexpected. I wonder how this will affect [X]?" and instead has to resort to totally lazy and uncreative words.

#dead

im writing in such a casual way guys see no punctuation or capitalization just like my hero blamespace

PopGAF celebrity reacting to some shit while doing something mundane.

Also, people that say "Come at me". I am pretty certain that in real life, they won't really say that for fear of someone actually taking them on that offer and punching them in the mouth.

"Ooooh look my opinion is contrary to the popular atmosphere in this thread; I am so edgy! Come at me bros!"

obama's america shit is so fucking overused it's not even funny anymore. Gaf has run it into the ground.

People who don't use the list tags. It's so great! ;)

Yeah two of them. When people write:

"I.. I.. just.. cant" etc. Dont know why it annoys me but it does. I guess because so many people do it now haha.

The other one is not so annoying but I just find it creepy when people edit their posts to reply to comments below them. It confuses the hell out of me haha.
