- Thread's that start with 'Is it just me/am I the only one...?'
- Posts that just say "dead"

Oh. I got one. Posters who make jokes in 99% of their posts. The people who do this are funny few and far between, and they rarely add anything to the conversation. What's really vexing is that, when they are trying to be serious, I still can't tell if they're joking or not.

This is me. I'm trying my best to stop. Maybe not 99% but a significant amount of my posts are dumb joke/shit posts that only I laugh at.

In my first year of secondary school the IT teacher got us to double space after the full stop. That was the only time I ever encountered it mind.

Everything I know is a lie.

I've always prided myself on my good grammar and typing skills. I don't know if I'll ever be able to stop doing it, because it just looks wrong to me. Maybe I'll eventually phase it out, but this is seriously the first time I've ever heard of it. And like I said, I am a published author.

I am actually sorta depressed over this. You kids and your single spaces and everything is different!

If it's any consolation, I'm 36 and I only became aware that double-spacing was not standard a few years ago, and I have barely managed to break myself of the habit. In fact, I probably still double-space more often than not and don't realize it--I have to consciously remember to single-space.

I don't understand this double spacing thing. Like, hitting the spacebar twice after a period? I haven't seen that anywhere, and I'm not seeing it in Fiction's posts either.

Faux edit: it appears with my browser, or something, the second space is automatically omitted so it appears normal. Why is that?

"No, just no." "Wow, just wow." We get it, you're offended. Now explain why or contribute something useful to the debate. You don't win an argument just by saying "no" to something.

People giving mods permission to lock a thread if old or repost.

Putting "AGE" in thread titles. Maybe it's because I'm new here but I don't understand the obsession with using "AGE" in every other thread title. Dog-Age. Dating-Age. Food-Age.

You're here to enjoy yourself. If your jokes only make you laugh that is good enough.

Huh, is ****** really still censored? Oh it is, how funny. I barely even remember that dude.

Does it even need to be censored then? What is GAF gaining from it being censored?

I hate it when people edit a post multiple times to add additional replies to other posters, especially if one of those posters is me. I always miss those if I already moved on in the thread.

WTF is this non-double space crap? Am I in some sort of nightmare? How am I supposed to make my phone automatically add periods if the double space is incorrect? What am I even going to do with my life now?

Now look here, son, the funny I make in 80-90% of my posts is fucking hilarious. It's not my fault you have no sense of humour and I'll stab anyone who says it is. I didn't do it. I just didn't. I'm seriously the funniest man in Europe, voted for by a panel of my peers, and have been for the last 10 years (baring that one year that Duncan Norvelle blackmailed the jury). Those accolades cannot be taken away from me. Although there may be some techinicality by which they may, it's not your responsibility so just leave it.

You might think I'm a cunt, christ knows many do, but to deny that my posts here on GAF bring delight and joy to the lives of many underprivileged forum members, many of which are pensioners and a large percentage of which are suffering from crippling social anxiety and all manner of STDs, is disingenuous at best and at worst the work of a truly evil individual. You. You are evil and I hate you and your glib username, your penchant for alcohol abuse and your ugly offspring. ALL your ugly offspring.

If I were a gypsy I'd put a curse on you. If I was Screaming Jay Hawkins I'd put a spell on you. But I'm neither so I'll just wish you all the worst in life. I've judged you! And I've judged you a wrongun lad! Your cards are marked, son, and they're marked with the words "bad person."

But in all seriousness, fuck all of you, I hate you all.

I mean it don't even annoy me its more like exhausting like "oh its that image again *keeps on scrollin'!*" Tiring seeing that weird looking guy an familiar yet meaningless text popping up on my screen x.x;

Oh an I'm way guilty of the whole editting my posts to reply to someone who posted after mine. Didn't know it was bad! I'ma keep it in mind for the future.

Ugh, yes, having every word in the title capitalized. So annoying.

overused memes. lately, antoniobanderas.gif and "have you seen titanfall?"

Odds are, whatever you're doing with your phone is basically just a shortcut for 'dot, space'. Regardless of how many taps of the space bar trigger that shortcut.

This is a shitty rule. Who came up with this?
It's s fairly safe rule of thumb, given the disproportionate percentage of male members on the forum.

I can see why it would be annoying, but at the same time you surely appreciate its simply an assumption.

When people "/thread" their own posts.

STOP THAT!

Only other people can /thread your post. Stop /thread-ing yourself.

"yeah this article is basically complete garbage

/thread"

I do it ironically sometimes. But it's just gags. Arrogantly assuming that what you said was so thundercrackingly awesome that you could just end the show right there. I mean, who would take that seriously?

But in all seriousness, fuck all of you, I hate you all.

you. you're here for me, and I'm here for you.

  • Swear words
  • lol, lmao, rofl etc
  • First post nails it/First post fail etc/Should have been the first post etc
  • /thread
  • [insert a word] topic/stealth [insert a word] topic
  • Posting pictures without giving some context. Like I am suppose to recognise every game/film/animation etc
  • Improper use of spoiler tags that are not even spoilers but to mask "lol" and many variant of it
  • Complaints about ninja/stealth edits
  • Lack of puntuations
  • Long wall text post and then provide a "tl:dr". If you can explain all that in short then why elaborate all that in a wall of text?
  • :lol, :lmao etc and its many derivatives
  • GAF Gold. Stop talking about it.
  • [insert a name of a popular gif/picture/meme etc].gif/jpg
  • Witty first liner post as the first reply to a fresh thread
  • Quote something and then say "this" and its many variance
  • One word posts
  • Posts that repeat what others has already said but in different wording
  • GAF help me [insert the problem here] and its many derivatives
  • Sarcastic/troll/joke posts in response to a serious topic asking for opinions on delicate matters
  • dat [insert a word here]
  • Reverse emoticons. (: instead of :). Disrupts the flow of reading
I'll update if I remember more.

How do you mean? Being a boy would be sooooo shitty; being a girl is a lot of fun.
I just mean that you must be able to appreciate that referring to you as a male is simply an assumption based on the forum being mostly "bro"s.

It is all intended in good jest I'm sure, and I'm sure being a girl has its perks, yes.

Not anymore, no. It's just annoying.

I'm telling you, English is missing a gender neutral pronoun. It's hard to convey that tone of "bro" without inflicting a gendered causality ("Bra"? "Breh"? "Shma"?). It's also hard to tell if avatars are you or just someone on the internet you think looks cool.

Shma is good enough, shma.

Easy. It's basically list threads or image threads where people don't post the name or source of what they're posting.

POST GAMES THAT NOBODY LIKED BUT YOU AND WERE OBSCURE AND ONLY SOLD IN TUNISIA

"Oh dats easy here is my game

*obscureimage.jpg

DAT EMOTION"

Eloquently said. It just has that ring.

And it's Sophie Ellis-Bextor. She fly.

Yes!

So much worse in the movie threads, where it's literally one random frame.

Of a tree.

Near a rock.

Crazy overuse of the word "hyperbole" like it's the new best word. Often in Gaming over the last few months.

In part because I imagine everyone saying it hyper bowl.

Homie or blud.

Sandbagged him a bit. We'll see what happens in trial.

Someone was acting erratically, just immune to less lethal force, not listening, and charging at you, an officer of the law thats authority is to respected by all citizens. They were in the range where if your sidearm is holstered, they would get to you before you could unholster and fire. Its easy to armchair general after the fact, and not fearing for your life from death/serious injury. Even if unarmed they could cause you serious bodily injury remember. If they're drugged up, they may have a disease that can be transferred to you.

We'll see how this pans out in court. This officers freedom is on the line, but so is his superiors career future and integrity.

Things are always knee jerk here when it comes to police. Especially if it involves anyone who isn't white. Let's see how the trial goes.

What the hell? I refuse to believe that double spacing after a sentence is incorrect. Every single essay I wrote in college was marked down for punctuation if I did not double space after every sentence. I wrote a shit load of essays too.

Makes it easier to write corrections, that's why teachers prefer it. Published ones though, probably different.

Hyper bowl sounds like a more powered up version of the Super Bowl.

I would totally watch the Hyper Bowl.

Derisively responding to any and everything, mostly on the gaming section. Even when there's sometimes a grain of truth in the reactionary remarks, people will condemn a game without anything being known yet over and over again. Really can get tiresome. Rather than trying to engage in the conversation and speculation their minds are often already made up from the bat. I can see how previous experiences with some devs can taint someone's enthusiasm however. Cynicism can certainly be well placed, but the kind of black and white thinking displayed makes me question if those people really enjoy games or just enjoy hate playing them and bitching about it. Knowing this goes on doesn't bother me that much, but a thread like this does make one reflect about the more negative aspects of internet communication.
