Tons of mats are dropping in price rather quickly. There has been a huge drop in prices week over week since launch. Not sure when prices will bottom out, but no one will be making money anymore at that point unless you are cashing in shards and crystals, assuming crafting stays afloat when everything bottoms out.

Yeah true. I went away thinking I was going to shitloads of gil but nope, not one thing sold. Eh, I guess it isn't so bad, I had already made 100k buying at 300 and selling at 600.

So..What should I aim to buy first with my philostones, DL gear or DL accesories/jewelry?

Unless you're a tank, the jewelry is really good to start with, along with the weapon if you don't have it from Ifrit. Jewelry doesn't drop very often from AK and not at all from WP. If you are a tank, go for the belt and gloves first, then the legs, then the chest and then start on the jewelry.

I would just like to point out for you tanks that the crafted Heavy Darksteel gear is cheaper on tokens than darklight (for body/legs--1125 for one Darksteel Ingot's worth of Coke vs 1300 or whatever for the DL piece) and is better if you can get a crafter who can HQ it (if you can't then just get DL).

Is that right? Gives me more motivation to level up ARM now. Thanks for the tip.

Lvl 42.

Put in my point of VIT. My HP goes up 16 points or so.... out few thousand.

Goes to show you how useless stat allocation is.

Instance tanking hasn't been too bad so far, but I've got a pretty basic question. What is the generally accepted Tank procedure for Adds on bosses/sub-bosses? I've been marking them and switching my focus to them, but should I just mark them, smack them to keep them away from mages, and let the melee take them out while focusing on keeping the boss with me?

I went with accessories at first and don't have any of my actual DL gear. Depends on what you have/need to replace. I started with my low end gear and am working my way up with replacements. You can get some good drops from AK that will work well until you get more DL pieces too.

Well I was thinking too on upgrading accesories first. They are nice and cheap, and my accesories are still the "white" ones except a 40ish red belt from a leve.

Frankly I was thinking on getting DL gear first only because its "visible", so people dont blame me from going full AF

Sorry, forgot to say Im DRG.

As a white mage, I love to have a scholar as a counterpart in an 8-man group. They really complement each other really well.
I haven't played scholar yet (definitely going to be leveling ACN very soon), but white mage is a very traditional type of healer, so if that appeals to you, that's probably the way you should go.
I feel exactly the same way. Fall in love with my Scholar every time, haha.

You can offset some of that by picking up some pieces from your GC for a few thousand seals a pop. I think most of the accessories you can grab are about 1,700 seals and work to boost your stats until you can swap out for DL. Not 100% needed, but can be worth it. Also, most of those pieces are listed as 'All Classes' and will work for any others you level to 50. The DL stuff is specific to class/job, meaning you have to farm up again if you want another job available for end game dungeons.

Depends, sometimes you just get aggro on them so DPS can get a few hits and saving the healer a good scare and other times you just let DPS take them out.

Mostly is a matter of what kind of boss you're facing and what strategy, sometimes tanks shouldn't move from one spot so that means you can't focus on adds.

You can mark them but good DPS should know how to focus on the same add-

Keep your focus target on the boss, but change your actual target temporarily to the add that you want killed. This is assuming that the adds need to be tanked; in fights like King Tonberry or Anandaboga, the adds are entirely the DPS responsibility and you don't need to aggro them.

Last week on one of the random pug Garudas I thought I'd try the MT turned to 'help' with the adds, result in half the raid getting cleaved to death. :(

Anyone else get their Wind-up Cursor today?

A pug pt asked me (MT) to tank one of the adds, so I get aggro on the closest one that pops near Gaurda and let her go instantly. Of course I had to, or they would get smashed by Slipstream otherwise. They did fine and we won.

A decent party can take the green add fast enough while the OT gets the red one...

30 VIT at level 50 gives roughly 435-450 depending on race for a PLD. About 10% boost in HP.

Exactly - also, ppl need to consider the equivalent hp value when you take mitigation and hp increasing skills into effect.

VIT is a big gain.

Hell I've even seen some casters respec VIT for Titan HM to make things a little easier.

To the people selling grade 3 carbonized matter for 400 less than what they sold for the last time I logged in, fuck you.

*sigh* I was making so much money too.

Prices are finally becoming realistic thankfully. I was becoming rich selling common mats like cotton and straw even for a while. The economy was overly inflated at launch

That's way over what I've heard.

I heard you get 300 HP WITH defiance on as a War.

I've heard between 10 and 12.5 per point for a WAR with Defiance on. Either way, it's one extra hit from a Tonberry. The damage mitigation from the points in STR is also very small. It wouldn't surprise me if 30 points in Determination would actually be a nice alternative, but I don't have any math on that.

If you plan on doing end game, yes, all VIT for that.

Speaking of HP, just broke 4k on my drg. Hurrah.

Geez, are you in i90 for that already or something? I'm only at 3500 on my MNK and that's in i70 on most slots.

DET is a secondary stat that is inferior to your primary stats and you can't allocate your bonus points into it, anyway.

On PLD at least STR is absolute shit in terms of gains of any mitigation effect considering the shield is all STR attributes to and the way the gains are staggered, it's not enough. Whatever enmity is gained from STR would just be overshadowed by Shield Oath as well. I don't see a benefit. As for WAR, that's a whole other bag and not my deal.

Only 1 ilvl90, but I imagine drgs would naturally have more hp than monks considering that we probably have heavier armor too.

My DRG is at 50 but tbh I haven't done much at all with it in ARR. I'll compare ungeared base stats when I get home from work.

Is that parry result the amount of damage a parry does or the parry rate?

Because all parries I've seen even on other jobs was like -20% damage min, even on my mage jobs. If it's parry rate, then that's affected by DEX as far as what the stats say.

My payment didn't go through wtf?

Now I'm getting constant 401/601 errors on mog station.

Bank was declining shit for no reason, fixed that.

Still not working. Can't buy Crysta either as Paypal is declining shit despite transactions showing on my bank account. What the fuck?

Been on hold with paypal for half an hour, and SE for 1 hour. Man.

Do you have a script blocker or something? I kept getting errors from mog station until I had allowed the script to go through.

So is there any word on how we'll get future Fantasia potions past the first month's veteran reward? Debating racechanging my lalafell to an elezen when I get mine, but If I'm not feeling it I'd totally want to switch back with another potion.

Flat out done.

No game is worth hassle with my bank and customer service. None.

It was fun while it lasted but this is not how I want to spend my free time, fighting to convince someone my account is my own. So bad.

Yeah, I have -20%+ parry, so something is wrong with that table. Also STR give you more DMG = more enmity. Is not only for dmg mitigation.

That enmity table out there uses really high STR values for it's calculations.

That table isn't wrong, the values are skewed far against STR in terms of how the value is tiered. That was a separate table done by BG, if you want more info, this one goes deeper and includes raw data.

The value gained by being geared with a Relic or +1 relic overshadows the need to STR at all, coupled with the Shield Oath multiplier, there's no need when you're going to be bashing your face against Coil mobs who hit like a train. You're going to need all the health and defense you can get at that point.

Here's stats math:
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comments/1mirij/curious_about_what_pieces_you_should_upgrade/

Brass tacks: Weapon damage >>>>> Primary damage stat >>>>>> Any secondary stat

Weapon damage and your primary stat share a scaling relationship due to the multiplier, but that basic formula holds true.

Definitely true for a DPS. For a tank, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Since we're not really concerned about damage output just for the sake of damage, we have to consider what is going to keep us alive the best, and it's not a clear-cut subject. In most MMO's I've seen, the best thing you can do is reduce the size of every hit you take. We call this damage reduction (DR). Besides that, you've got what we call avoidance or passive mitigation. This is evasion, parry, block. You can't increase Evasion, but you can increase your Parry rate through the Parry stat, your Block rate and strength through the stats on PLD shields, and the Parry/Block strength through STR and Dexterity. The thing is, avoidance can't save your life. You will avoid one time, but get hit the next 4. The best thing it can do is conserve your healer's mana, but that's only a concern if he is actually running out. Avoidance is an unreliable way to stay alive, so you always want more damage reduction where you can find it.

In this game, the only way to increase DR is through the Defense that comes on gear. There is literally no other stat that provides a reliable damage reduction, and this is fairly standard for MMOs. That's why my ilvl 60 DRG gloves are not as good for tanking as my AF gloves for WAR. Higher level gear has a substantial bonus to both physical defense and magic defense, and the heaviest armor types have the highest levels of both.

However, this game also provides another approach in the form of healing factors. You might not be able to reduce the amount of damage you're taking, but what if you can boost the healing you receive? That's what Wrath and Convalescence do, and that's also what the Determination stat seems to do (the explanations I'm seeing are a little murky). The reason why I like this is because there's no RNG involved. If someone casts a heal on you, and you have a bonus that increases the healing you will receive, it's a guaranteed boost.

And then there's the Vitality method which simply increases how much damage you can take at once before you die. If you're taking really hard hits, such that getting hit with an ability followed by an auto-attack will take you down, that's when you see the value of this stat. It also additionally gives a bonus to abilities that are based on HP% like Stoneskin, Thrill of Battle, etc.

Just unlocked PLD and hit level 32 with it. Is is bad that I have the strong urge to just start Archer now and get Bard? I need to focus on something to finish the story and start building end game gear but I can't decide. I always enjoy ranged classes in MMO's, esp ones that can dps and move at the same time. I really enjoy tanking in this game as well. Its super active and you always have to be on your toes. I will admit that sometimes its beyond frustrating. The way agro works can be a little wonky. I'm almost convinced that the first person to attack a target has a much more important effect on enmity then it should. When you are spamming your best enmity rotation and using provoke and it still doesn't pull off another class that simple attacked the target 3 seconds before you did is kind of annoying. Provoke really needs to work like a WoW taunt. Sometimes I find it useless.

In the end I will probably level both to max. I just can't decide which to focus on for the story and endgame first.

I absolutely agree. People just look at it in terms of durability per CP, which is incorrect. If you use a skill that doesn't use durability, you can effectively turn Waste Not into a 3 turn move rather than 2.

Perfect example

I just started alchemy. Waste Not allows me to complete to the Log quickly and rapidly level to 10. Once i hit 11 I am already able to HQ Clove oil reliably with access to waste not and careful synthesis (using HQ mats)

There's a large (and growing) thread on all of the billing failures hitting everyone on the official forums:

Error 401 and 601 CE Upgrade

Of course, it's on the NA forums and SE hasn't said squat and doesn't even seem to be acknowledging the situation. I was going to get home tonight and subscribe (since like all 1.0 people my free period ended), but after reading that thread I'm not going to put up with that crap all night when SE should at least be able to take payment like any civilized, modern corporation. Is there anything this company can do right the FIRST time? I mean, seriously? Absolutely ridiculous.

Literally just upped to a 90 day yesterday.
Had a legacy account though so the billing carried over, have had absolutely 0 problems, but obviously anecdotal evidence =/= everyone's experience.

Hell since launch I've had zero problems concerning accounts, or activations. Seems so odd to hear it all.

Camp Dragonhead really is a nicely designed place! I don't know what the did with the theme, someone must have been like " put some organs in, do eet"

Lol, the whole theme is pure full blown organs.
The Coerthas field theme however, is among the most memorable so far!

I can''t find the Dragonhead theme right now.

I'm a legacy account too, but would have to put a new CC into the system, so I suspect I may hit the same problem. With problems like these I'm not enthusiastic about giving SE my CC# anyway.

Someone in that thread said they were on the phone with their bank while they tried to do a transaction and the bank said nothing was even coming through, so SE blaming the players and the banks is ridiculous.
