I absolutely agree. People just look at it in terms of durability per CP, which is incorrect. If you use a skill that doesn't use durability, you can effectively turn Waste Not into a 3 turn move rather than 2.

...what?
Waste Not burns stacks even if you aren't consuming durability, netting you a loss.
It's +20 if you use 0-1 skills which do not burn durability, +10 if you use 2-3 or if you use 1 and had already done a waste not with 1 used.

It can't provide you three hits of durability in any way.

For the relic weapon quest, does anyone know if you can use the high quality version of the base weapon?

Considering picking up the HQ version to use until I can get Ifrit weapon but I don't want to drop the cash if I can't turn it in later for progress on the relic quest.

Yes, you can use the HQ wepaon for the relic quest. I did it for mine and used it until I got Ifrit's weapon like 15 minutes later, lol.

apologies if this has been answered. but for the relic quest you have to beat garuda and titan hm, correct? if you beat them before you do it for the relic quest, do you have to do it again?

it's going to be a while until i start my relic quest since i used a lot of money leveling carpenter to 50 and gearing it up. idk if i want to deal with garuda/titan for their weapons, and then do it over again for relics.

Kinda.

Waste Not is a 4 turn skill. If you're not using 4 Touch/Synth skills in a row when Waste Not is active you are.... wasting Waste Not. Remember that you can finish a synth at 5 durability.

Basically, use Waste Not (or Waste Not II) when you're ready to use 4 (or more with rank II) Quality or Progress skills in a row so that you get 40 durability worth of steps for only 20 (or up to 80 for 40 with rank II). Generally, you never want to waste your Waste Not buff on other buff skills, including Tricks of the Trade.

The exception to this that I commonly make is that I use Steady Hands II after Waste Not II instead of before it, so I do lose 1 half-cost step there in order to not waste my success chance increase.

Yes you do, and you have to do it on that job, none of that "well I'll switch to ____ to make it easier" business.

Gotta beat them while on the specific leg of the Relic Quest with the specified job. Only thing you can do early in the relic quest is pre-meld stuff and get that Quenching Oil with the 900 philo.

I was probably too succinct. I meant that you're allowed 1 free non-durability turn without a net loss in turns. It allows perfect overlap for some skills.

For example on 40 durabilty items:
Turn 1 - Waste Not
Turn 2 - Steady Hands (2) [40 dura]
Turn 3 - 35 dura
Turn 4 - 30 dura
Turn 5 - 25 dura
Turn 6 - 15 dura
Turn 7 - 5 dura [Steady Hands breaks]
Turn 8 - Master's Mend (back to 35 dura AKA 4 turns)

I only use Waste Not once... at the beginning. Using it a second time results in a lost turn if you use any non-durability skills.

(In addition to the times that Steady Hand (2) is not up):
- 70 durability synths have 2 open chances to use Tricks of the Trade.
- 80 durability synths have 1 open chance to use Tricks of the Trade.

Good math. I had been using Steady Hands before Waste Not but you make a convincing case to switch it around.

He has it wearing off with step 5. If it required Waste Not II, well, I'm not leveling up LTW just yet.

Oh, you're right. As penance for that derp, here are some more tips for working with more of the level 50 skills.

For 40 durability recipes:
Comfort Zone
Inner Quiet
Waste Not II
//(if you get a red orb before this point, always use Tricks of the Trade)
Steady Hands II
5x Hasty Touch (do not Tricks of the Trade while Steady Hands is active)
//(if you didn't get a red orb yet and it pops up now, Tricks of the Trade it)
Careful Synthesis II
//you can either Tricks here or roll the dice on another Hasty
//if you can't complete the recipe with 2 steps and you still have Waste Not active, use another Careful
//Waste Not II is now worn off
Manipulation
Steady Hands II
Waste Not
Hasty Touch x2-4 (depends on success of previous steps and how much dura you need to finish)
Great Strides
Byergot's Blessing
Careful Synthesis II for the finish.

For 80 durability recipes:
Comfort Zone
Inner Quiet
Waste Not II
//(if you get a red orb before this point, always use Tricks of the Trade)
Steady Hands II
5x Hasty Touch (do not Tricks of the Trade while Steady Hands is active)
//if you didn't get a red orb yet and it pops up now, Tricks of the Trade it
Careful Synthesis II (twice if no TotT proc)
//Waste Not II is now worn off

//If you got at least 1 TotT
Waste Not II
Steady Hands II
Hasty Touch x2-4 (depends on success of previous steps and how much dura you need to finish)
Great Strides
Byergot's Blessing

//If you got no TotT you may not be able to afford another Stead Hands II and still have CP for Byergot's
Waste Not I or II (depending on how many Carefuls you need to finish)
Hasty Touch (as many times as you can spare leaving enough dura for Byregot's and Careful)
Great Strides
Byergot's Blessing
Careful Synthesis II x(whatever) for the finish.

In any scenario, you can sub in a better Touch skill for Hasty if you got lots of red orbs to TotT. But generally never TotT while Waste Not is active, except sometimes on the first or last step of your Waste Not II. That gives you several chances to get a proc (after Comfort ZOne, after Inner Quiet, after the last step with Waste Not, after Manipulation, etc., but NEVER after Great Strides).

Do we have any high level alchemists on the GAF FC in Sargatanas? Any that might be generous enough to craft my relic item and meld materia?

Still didn't feel like doing Haukke Manor, had no other content left so I became a Culinarian today. Went from level 1 to level 11 mainly doing the same leves over and over. I had way too many allowances anyway. I'm doing it mainly for the PS3 trophy though and I had hoped to work away a bit of the 'Ingredient' clutter in my inventory. That didn't seem to work. I really need to see what I can keep and what I can sell.

Good math. I had been using Steady Hands before Waste Not but you make a convincing case to switch it around.

Thanks. I always open up with Inner Quiet though, and use tricks of the trade when steady hands is not up. What I recounted was a naive approach to how I weave in my skills.

It's the best area for that level range for FATEs

But since there are 1000 people there it then isnt because if you are 1 second late no XP for you.

There are plenty of areas that people can go to for that level range but everyone read a guide on reddit so they go to quarry mill.

Finally got into the game... and look what I just picked up...~!

I'm sitting here with no quests to do at lvl 43, pretty salty. Would it be faster to grind fates or to grind the last dungeon I beat? cuz fates suuuuuuuuuuuck and I want to avoid them if I can.

same here bro!

My solution.... play gta5 until they patch in some new stuff.

Literally just upped to a 90 day yesterday.
Had a legacy account though so the billing carried over, have had absolutely 0 problems, but obviously anecdotal evidence =/= everyone's experience.

Hell since launch I've had zero problems concerning accounts, or activations. Seems so odd to hear it all.

Same for me, aside from someone trying to jack my account. My security token stunned the attack though.

EDIT: Yeah, legacy here and I was billed.

Is the subscription starting now only for legacy people? I'm new to ARR and mogstation says my sub starts in October.

I have to do Stone Vigil at some stage now, but I'm only level 41 and still in full Battlemage (ilevel 34) gear. Should I gear up / level up before attempting this dungeon?

My 180 day sub went through successfully today. I guess I'm in it for the long haul.

Seems that way. I'm a 1.0 player and today was my first billing.

Crafting isn't quite as bad as I was making it out to be even if I do occasionally get frustrated with making subcomponents over and over. I find it a nice change of pace; about to hit 30 on weaver and my highest battle class is only 24 THM. Most gil I ever had was 10k until I started doing diremite web tradecraft leves and sharding my crafting gear, now I'm up to 80k... so that has helped me feel better about it as well.

Need more leve allowance. -_-

Crafting isn't bad and actually kind of enjoyable if you do it in chunks between leveling. Every couple of battle levels I'll head to town, check the marketplace and craft for a few levels.

How people sit there for hours on end crafting us beyond me.

I swear to god, I've lost count of the number of PUGs I've run where at least one of the group members is an elitist arsehole. The community in this game is easily the worst I've ever encountered in any MMO, and I've played a lot of MMOs.

I was just recently PUGging Amdapor Keep. We had this one extremely rude, elitist DPS constantly hating on the rest of the group. He was mocking the tank's play style, calling him a noob and a retard, even though the tank was holding aggro perfectly fine. He was also making fun of the healer when we wiped a few times, "OH WHERES MY HEALS U DUMB BITCH UR USELESS". And when I told him to shut up, he told me to go kill myself.

...

So I was like, that's fine, I'll just vote to kick to him. Oh but wait, I couldn't vote to kick him? Why, I hear you ask? BECAUSE THERES NO VOTEKICK OPTION.

So then I was like ok, I'll just blacklist him once I'm out of the group. Oh but wait, I ALSO could not blacklist him. Why? BECAUSE HE WAS ON A DIFFERENT SERVER.

This game needs a votekick option and cross server blacklist. Right now.

Other than that I dunno. Leves? Quests? Dungeon runs for bronze pieces? Pretend to be a girl and flirt with people and get them to buy you things?

This game definitely needs a votekick options. Also needs an easy way to report players (or a way at all?).

gatti! Reroll on Ultros so we can stomp faces again when PvP comes out.

< Quelana from TOR.

And where the hell is Kruul?

I'm totally transferring! No way am I rerolling. My character has 1/2 mill in gill, almost lvl 50 bm, lvl 15 archer conj, lvl 28 marauder, lvl 30 mining and lvl 15 every other craft. No way lol.

I have a quick relic weapon question.

I've got a Champions lance with 2 Savage Aim III Materia attached but it won't let me turn it in for the quest.

i) Is it because it's a HQ Champions Lance?
ii) Did something go wrong with the meld of the second materia. Is that why it has lower stats? Is that the issue?

Do you have another weapon to equip instead? You can't turn it in if it's your only weapon and you're on Dragoon.

You cant have it equipped when you turn it in. HQ doesn't matter.

Yep, this is what's happening to me. Nothing I do will take a payment and I tried to buy one of those shitty game cards and it won't work for a day or some bullshit.

I have spent 5 hours trying to solve this on my own. No game is worth this headache.

What's funny is my gut told to buy Crysta last night for the peace of mind, but I didn't listen. Shame on me I guess.

That wouldn't have mattered, it's apparently not letting Crysta transactions happen either, nor is it letting Ultimate Game Card transactions go through in order to buy Crysta.

However, some are now reporting that when they try to enter payment information in Mogstation they're getting a maintenance message, so maybe SE is actually fixing something . . . . of course, they're not going to inform their customer base about what's going on, because that would be something a company that gives a crap about customer service would do.
