Thank you both, BananasWithGuns and Mandoric. Very insightful. From the looks of it I'll do some reading about the Lancer and Arcanist. While I despise pet classes I always end up with them due to the nature of necromancer always having them lol. If it's only a "bonus" effect, and not "I'm the actual pet and my companion does the most" I'm somewhat okay with it.

Can you copy ANY spell from another class? Or how does it work? That opens up quite a few interesting choices.

And how does one advance the classes? Do I need 2 chars, 1 with lvl 30 lancer and 1 with lvl 15 marauder?

People who don't often heal find it difficult/stressful. It's really just different. I find it easy because it's all I ever do in MMOs, but I can understand people finding it hard. That said, I have never tanked a day in my life, so I can't compare it to that.

I played a healer in one game, as a Chloromancer, in Rift. Did raid progression with my guild, and had a lot of fun with it. It was pretty intense, if I recall correctly you had to be very reactive to heal in Rift and know when to use what abilities.

Well, that didn't explain very much at all.

Fighting 13 enemies with an actual positioning system may be fun, though!
We'll get to find out on 11/14.

I would say Arcanist is fairly 50/50. I've only taken mine to 27 though so I can't say too much about end game but from my experience the skill of the Arcanist has been just as important, if not more so, than the abilities of the pet.

Some spells and abilities are exclusive to a class/job but there are quite a few that can be shared. Classes can take skills from any other class but jobs are restricted to skills from only two classes. (Try http://xivdb.com/ for a list of all skills.)

Also, you can level every class on one character. So for Dragoon you would get your Lancer to 30 then just switch over and get Marauder to 15. All on one character. That's one of the more unique aspects of XIV (and XI before it). You can play and level all classes on a single character.

Most (about 90% total? maybe trimmed down to 80% for appropriateness) as a class, trimmed down a lot for jobs.

Pets are, uh, I haven't played SMN but they seem to parse at about 60-70% own damage (but DoT parsing may be inaccurate)

Today's points: coil, tower, housing, pvp

Video intro to Bahamut's coils. With some pretty awesome BGM-FF last dungeon style instrumental version of the 1.0 theme. (Is that what plays in game? I haven't run coil yet)

Housing for players and FCs, small/med/large sizes, lots of parts. (slides say 300+, he said 380?)

Looks pretty impressive. Someone should ask whether we can garden in it.

Going to be getting on a bit late tonight. I spent all day playing lumberjack, and wearing myself out physically. Then I got home and heard a friend was/is in the hospital. Putting myself back together a bit before logging on.

...I want a security system that 10,000 needles people who break in. Not 1,000. 10,000!
Sounds like one hell of a system. I anyone who attempt to trespass on your property.

Also, now I need to settle on a housing location. I'm thinking Ul'dah since that's where I began [and which Grand Company I am associated with].
