I kinda took a break from the game after hitting 50 and finishing up the main storyline. I haven't done any hard mode primals or the non-story 50 dungeons yet.

How do I go about getting set up for endgame stuff? I'm not sure which dungeon to start with (and I don't really want to deal with random DF ppl getting mad that I'm not "geared enough" or whatever). My current equipment is BLM AF and lvl 46-49 white gear.

The only thing I've queued for is Ifrit HM once and that was a bust (everybody dropped out before it even started). Waste of an hour DF queue. lol. Sorry if it's been asked recently.

Ifrit hard mode is an ok place to start.

I would recommend wanderers palace first.

If you can get through ak, you can get a very good grand company weapon.

CM is also a good place to farm tomestones, which are used to buy dark light gear.

So ya, drops in wp, ak, and farming for dark light.

Before anything, go pick up your relic quest in East Shroud. Make sure to do all the quests in that up to Garuda before you run her (and consequently Titan). Keep doing Ifrit HM til you get your wep (if you can't find a competent pug group, shout for one. though from my experience pugs are usually fine in this fight. As long as youve got WAR/PLD or PLD/PLD it's really unlikely you'll lose), speed run CM for tomes, run Wanderer's Keep for tomes + better gear, run Amdapor Keep for even more tomes and even better gear, eventually get Darklight jewels/gear, run Garuda, run Titan, get your relic, run Coil, have fun.

Also don't run AK til you get Ifrit wep as you're DPS and Demon Wall is a DPS check.

So now that the game has been out for about a month and the release day hype is out of the way, what are you opinions of this game? I'm pretty keen on getting into an MMO but haven't really been grabbed by one after dumping hundreds and hundreds of hours into World of Warcraft back when I was in high school. Guild Wars 2 was a pretty big disappointment for me and I've been wary of trying MMOs since. How is the end game? Do many people seem to be sticking around past their free 30 days and do you guys plan on sticking around for awhile? Lastly, how would you guys compare it to Blizzard's elephant in the room in general? Thanks!

The game is cool, the game-world feels pretty alive, the game-play can be lots of fun, but there are many things that need to be fixed/adjusted, things like not being able to talk to NPCs if mounted, not having a real way to compare items, making the pet management easier and more intuitive to use, just to name some.

I feel that a comparison to WoW isn't favorable to 14, but I also feel that, thanks to the different pace (WoW is way faster), 14 can be different enough and that's why I'm on a break from WoW.

This makes sense. Is FF14 a game you feel compelled to stick with though? I don't mind playing a game that needs some fixes here and there as long as the core gameplay and world are absorbing and interesting... I'm really just looking for an MMO I can get lost in.

I do feel compelled to stick with 14 (I even closed one of my 2 WoW accounts for it). Despite the flaws (which hopefully will be ironed out) it's a really fun game.

So: Ifrit/CM/WP --> AK --> Garuda --> Titan --> Relic ?

The quest to unlock fighting chocobos is a level 30 quest, for one thing, so you aren't too late.

On the other hand,

1. Chocobos suck at Tanking or Healing.
2. Chocobos take 25% of your experience
3. Chocobos can't be used while queuing for Duty Finder nor in any instance battles of any kind.
4. Chocobos have to be un-summoned before you can use any mount, and then re-summoned after dismounting (takes one gyshal green per summon).
5. They gain ranks extremely slowly.

Although, they do 25-50% of your damage.
My chocobo managed to get me out of hairy situations a LOT of times, as a BLM.

So what should a DPS train their Chocobo in? I was gonna go tank but from the sounds of the discussion here they're most useful for raw damage?

Erm, you can definitely run AK without an Ifrit weapon without an issue.

Yes, even though some ppl will stil blame you on Duty Finder.

i got blamed for having low gear with an Ifrit Harpoon, 3 DL jewelry and pants/hands from AK, rest AF/lvl 47 regular accesories.

I've been doing BC with a level 38 ring. I am a terrible person.

Yikes. In that case, I think I'll hold off on training one for awhile. The main reason I would even need one is for tanking in solo instance battles when considering I'm rather squishy and said battles love throwing waves of enemies at you. But with that out of the window, I don't think it's worth the added effort ATM when I could be doing something else. Thanks for the replies.

Yeah I think ill train one with tank class when I get to it.

I mean
You have to run AK to get access to the GC weapon, which is worse than the Ifrit weapon, so saying you need an Ifrit weapon to run AK makes no sense.

Fucking hell, I hate people that want the shiny thing at the end but nothing before that. My FC chat is filled with one guy looking for people to do Titan Hard Mode but he is nowhere near ready for it.

There are plenty of people who don't mind being carried through things. They exist everywhere.

Well I am using a lvl 49 white weapon right now. So, this is good to know. Thanks for clarifying.

Yes it's stupid. I tried AK with an ilevel 45 weapon and couldn't do enough DPS.

You should run Wanderer's Palace until you at least get a new weapon off of the last boss. Other things drop in there as well. Unfortunately as gimmicks go this instance is a bit of a pain. :-/

Story question from a level 44 quest.

Before the fight with
Garuda there is this whole scene with Cid regaining his memory. Maybe I skipped too much dialogue but what happened here? How did the PC just magically show up and give him his goggles? Or was that suppose to be some kind of metaphor for a quest in 1.0?

Any more details on player housing? Such as:

- Capacity
- Storage
- Rested EXP Bonus

I hope housing isnt that expensive. I want one, even if its a small one...

I thought player housing was going to be implemented after FC housing?

Probably old and already posted, but I found this video this morning:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGa549eSUZs

Very interesting.

It seems that for every term I learn and figure out in MMO/FF jargon, there is a new one that confuses me which I never heard of. For instance: what is a Binding Coil, a buff, rolling, and a fantasia?

Ah, ok. Thanks for the info!

Is there a loot list for dungeons somewhere? D:

Is there a release date for the PS4 version? My wife has been playing on PS3 and I want to start playing too, so thinking of buying another PS3 console to do so.

Not really. There is a beta in February.

You're looking at least 5 months. buy a used ps3 and go for it.

Just received a PS3 version of this game as a birthday gift. Never played an MMORPG before so I'm a little unclear about a few things. (Sorry if these are super obvious)

  • Can my brother and I have our own separate accounts/subscriptions off the same disc or do each of us have to buy a separate copy?
  • Once I get my subscription going, can I play my game at my cousin's place on his PS3 if I take my copy with me?
  • Are people still having a ridiculous time getting into the game cause of overloaded servers? (If so, I think I'll just wait before starting the game so as not to waste the free 30 day period it comes with.)
  • Did you guys link your SE and PSN accounts together? Is this advisable?
  • How are you guys liking the story in the game compared to other Final Fantasies?

He would need his own registration key for his own account. So yeah, you'd have to buy another copy.

You can play from anywhere. Just log in with your account and there should be no problems. It's not tied to a specific device.

Login problems are 99% fixed. Occasionally I hear of a person having trouble but speaking from my own experience, I haven't had an issue in weeks.

Not on PS3 so not sure how that works with PSN accounts, sorry. I'm sure someone else can help you out there.

Story is decent. Pretty good compared to most MMOs I've played. It can be a bit cliche and over the top sometimes but it also has its moments. I've found it to be pretty enjoyable. The most important thing is that it feels like a Final Fantasy game both in the story and in the world. That's the best thing about it.

Listen to this girl.

I did AK the first time with Vintage Hora, no major concerns. Ifrit weapons are definitely NOT required.

I finally broke 1k. It happened. I'm so happy.

Fate grinding is so dull and boring (and frustrating if you are a cnj), yet they're so popular, I guess it is because is the fastest, less expensive way to hit the cap.

You must link your SE account with your PSN ID. So, if you wanna be able to play on another PS3, you must be able to move your PSN account.

In practical gaming experience, being below 3000 (really below 3.1 or 3.2) means most groups simply won't take you.

How much HP does a Lv50 DRG have with all bonus stat points allocated in STR without gear? Will I have trouble reaching that HP milestone without top of the line gear?

I have 2535 hp with a +30 Vit weapon equipped as a 50 DRG with all 30 pts in Str.

4173 with all my gear.

Pretty much, it's the fastest leveling method. You don't have to travel much, just park in an area and mount back and forth, collect reward for often doing little. The questing in the game itself is full of tasks that require time investment especially the many long back and forth fetch/delivery like quests.

Pretty much. Although, I have heard horror stories at times like about tanks FATE grinding their way to end-game dungeons but not knowing how to mark targets/properly aggro/etc.

I ran into a paladin in Wanderer's Palace that could not hold aggro on anything at all. Even after giving him 10 seconds of no-DPS for him to pull aggro he immediately lost it. At the time I chalked it up to paladins having it rough but having played one now I'm convinced he just didn't know the rotations.

Someone in my LS the other day was asking for help to beat Brayflox with him being a tank. He said he'd never done the dungeon at all before, so me and a SCH friend helped him out.

He was a level 48 Paladin wearing the Gallant set. Hadn't done Braflox before, never marked targets, didn't use Shield lob to pull enemies at the beginning of encounters. My main class is a PLD, so it hurt watching him in action. That's actually the run where I ended up tanking Aiatar as a MNK because he died halfway through the battle...
