Story question from a level 44 quest.

Before the fight with
Garuda there is this whole scene with Cid regaining his memory. Maybe I skipped too much dialogue but what happened here? How did the PC just magically show up and give him his goggles? Or was that suppose to be some kind of metaphor for a quest in 1.0?

I assumed that was your character using the Echo to return his memories to him, and the goggle-giving was just symbolic of that

I ran into a paladin in Wanderer's Palace that could not hold aggro on anything at all. Even after giving him 10 seconds of no-DPS for him to pull aggro he immediately lost it. At the time I chalked it up to paladins having it rough but having played one now I'm convinced he just didn't know the rotations.

Someone in my LS the other day was asking for help to beat Brayflox with him being a tank. He said he'd never done the dungeon at all before, so me and a SCH friend helped him out.

He was a level 48 Paladin wearing the Gallant set. Hadn't done Braflox before, never marked targets, didn't use Shield lob to pull enemies at the beginning of encounters. My main class is a PLD, so it hurt watching him in action. That's actually the run where I ended up tanking Aiatar as a MNK because he died halfway through the battle...

That feel when you realize that PLD is actually super easy to play compared to WAR and yet PLD is the tank class which is vastly superior at endgame. I went through the 5 stages of grief yesterday when I realized how ridiculous it was trying to WAR tank the Titan HM fight, having done so I'm now leveling an Archer.

The 5 stages of grief for WAR:

(1) Denial - Something is clearly wrong, I just need to be healed more or better! Work harder, healers!
(2) Anger - THIS IS BULLSHIT FUCK THE MOTHERFUCKER WHO DESIGNED MY CLASS TO TAKE 2X MORE DAMAGE BUT ONLY HAVE 20% MORE HP AND GET HEALED WITH THE SAME POTENCY AS THE OTHER TANK CLASS FUCK SQUENIX FUCK EVERYTHING
(3) Bargaining - Oh maybe I can go as DPS and just get carried through the fight so I can be ignored by everyone who wants to do Coil anyways because they only want PLD.
(4) Depression - Nothing is worth doing in this game anyways. I'll just cancel my sub and quit.
(5) Acceptance - This is how all MMOs are. I really like this game so I'll just roll the FOTM class like everyone else and begin leveling an Archer.

I'm actually thinking of rolling a WAR affter I finish DL and relic on PLD just because I want to whack stuff with a big axe.

Then again I do have this MNK Ifrit weapon sitting in storage.

My archer is 17 1/2 now. I can do the first instance of the game, Sastasha? I'm kinda scared using Duty Finder. I'm still a novice in the game. How hard of an instance is it? Sure wish I was in a guild.

I'm an archer also and the early dungeons were all pretty straightforward. Just attack the same target as the tank and you'll be fine.

Oh man. I personally never encountered something that bad. I know people like power-leveling, but personally, I don't see the point if you still need to actually learn your class rotations/dungeon layouts/etc, especially with the existence of level syncing to make sure that entire groups aren't carried by some decked out level 50 in relic armor.

Level 17 should be enough for Sastasha. Personally, I would just roll duty finder and see how it ends up (since you're a DPS, expect longer queue times, so make sure you have other stuff to do to keep you occupied). Even if you're a novice, just adhere to this simple rule; let the tank go into encounters first. And try to make sure you guys are going after the same target. It won't be anything too intensive or scary even for novices, especially if you have an experienced tank running through it.

You can do that dungeon asleep, no worries!

Thanks guys! How many bosses are in there? Also, do they drop like blue weapons? I don't know the coloring system for items in this game, if its not like WoW.

I'm a level 18 Gladiator and I got FUCKED UP in Sastasha, but then again the people I went in with were a bunch of assclowns.

I tried to buy the DL version on the square enix shop website thing and it confirmed my order without ever asking for my card number. Wtf?
So now it's stuck and I can't do anything. Is that normal in some bizarro world?

What is the difference between need and greed rolls?

I know need can be clicked on when the relevant item for your job drops. but greed is always there

Can someone explain please ?:)

Need is if you need it. Generally only certain classes can roll need on a certain item. Greed is something everyone can hit, so if no one needs it, everyone gets a shot to win the item.

Need if you have a immediate use for it and that it pertains to your Class/Job.
Greed if you think you might use it later on when leveling a different Class.

I hardly ever pass since if everyone does so then the item is destroyed.

Thanks guys. So there is no priority if you roll need or greed? I mean if everyone can roll greed then whats stopping someone from rolling greed everytime over need? I remember I once rolled greed and then couldn't roll again.

Is that correct?

If anyone rolls Need, those rolls will out-weigh the Greed. Greed is only taken into account when no one rolls Need, then the highest Greed roll wins. For example, if someone rolls a Need roll of 1 and another rolls a Greed of 99, the person who rolled a Need of 1 would win the item.

There's no limit to how many times you can roll Need/Greed. Do so as necessary.

Yeah, I rolled Berserker in Tera because I wanted to hit things with a big axe. It didn't work out. At all. I should have learned my lesson then but nooooooooooo

Then again I do have this MNK Ifrit weapon sitting in storage.

I have one too, and I'm not going to touch MNK until they fix that class too.

Fix what?

MNK needs to stack buffs through positioning. Some bosses aren't positionable (Demon Wall is a prime example), and many bosses do teleports or other things where they go away and/or are invincible for a short period of time and if a MNK isn't attacking for 6 seconds all their buffs go away and they need to start over from zero. Also, and this a problem for anyone who has to be in melee range, but many bosses have Cleaves or even AoE Cleaves (Garuda springs to mind here) and melee DPS will get rocked just by being there doing their jobs and put strain on the healers while ranged DPS are standing far away and happily DPSing without worrying about that at all.

Like all two melee dps then?

I can't speak to how DRG fare but the parsers always show DRG > MNK usually by a wide margin.

I know that DRG are beasts against the Demon Wall so maybe positioning isn't as important for them as it is for MNK.

Oh actually now I remember when I think about it. DRG wears chain and MNK wears leather IIRC. Wearing leather can't be fun for melee DPS, that's what BRD wear!

People keep mentioning that WAR and MNK needs "fixing". What fixing needs to be done?

MNK dps is fine, but they need to do more work to output the same dps as other classes. They also have problems movement-heavy fights, as it causes their buffs to drop.

WAR have no good mitigation tools to tank, and it's become apparent in end game encounters. Most people are picking PLDs only for content after HM Titan. WARs form of mitigation is supposed to be self-heals? The problem is they are all laughably bad. But Yoshi said we're strong right now, so apparently we're not playing them correctly.

Regardless, DRGs face just as many positional problems as Monks. I need to be in a flanking position as well as behind them for two of my combos. On the demon wall I'm relegated to spamming one Full Thrust the entire time. So it's less a Monk problem and more a melee problem.

Oh okay. I admit I'm not super aware of the difficulties the melee DPS face in this game beyond the general things people complain about. It makes sense though.

Maybe he is basing this opinion on Japanese players. Time to find some JP WAR vids and streams and see what they do.

People were mentioning in the FC chat that WAR's pull surprisingly good DPS numbers. Maybe that's what he was referring to?

I really wish classes weren't stuck with roles. Having different gear set for making WAR a DPS would be really cool... but I guess not every class would be suitable for a dual role.

Wut o_O

*goes to see how Japanese players are using WAR*

My first Titan fight was with a GAF party, and I got punted off the arena. The rest of the party did everything. Felt bad, man.

There is a difference. Some people come prepared with the right gear/food/potions/understanding of the boss. Some people ask for help without even knowing what the boss does.

I've seen a lot of talk with players converting their WAR into melee DPS as well. Yeah, definitely need a way to switch your role if the job can fill the role well enough.

This is good! Please don't turn this into another Ninja tank situation SE. Let the players branch the jobs if there is a possibility.

Helluvagod, Yoshi-P, why do i have to shoulder all the damn trash in AK every day to cap mythology?
Speedruns were MUCH funnier. Demon Wall is one of the best bosses in MMO history, but god, the trash kills it.

What bard rotation do you guys use at lvl 50?

I start with straight shot macro with bloodletter etc built in then the two DOT macros then spam my regular attack macro unless straight shot procs. Rinse repeat

They can theoretically put up decent dps, but it requires full dps gear/attributes. So you can put out dps, but it comes at the expense of your tanking ability. And it should be mentioned that any decent dps will still out damage you.

So, even if it works, what's the purpose of a dps WAR? Collecting a whole second set of gear, to do okay damage, doesn't fill a need in groups. It's a niche, fun thing but I don't think it's really viable for anything.

The 5 stages of grief for WAR:

Wow, I can't believe how similar my Warrior experience was. First Ifrit, the absolute pain of getting two Warriors. Then Garuda, Paladin preferred. Titan, Warriors can't tank and this 8man only needs one tank so good luck getting a group. Interestingly I felt really good about DPS warrior on Titan. You're basically invincible, shrugging off all damage while the other DPS go down. You are perhaps 130dps compared to the 170 of a proper dps but phase 1 and 3 are about survival, phase 2 is the DPS check and you have +50% damage from berserk for that. However I'd probably have more trouble convincing people to let me DPS than I do to let me tank. In Coil Turn 4 I outgear the paladin but he is far superior tank putting me on offtank duty. Which means I get stoneskin mobs which means no self healing, no fury stacks, no aggro. I was just a bad paladin that they had to take because they couldn't find a second paladin.

It may just be that Warriors are the most gear dependent class in the game. You're always 'the undergeared' warrior even if you have some of the best gear in the group! They really do need some attention so that Coil groups will consider them. It's just insult to injury that Paladins can put out the same DPS with Sword Oath.

I've now got my Monk to 50 which seems to be the second worst class...

Thanks that makes more sense now

I'm worried because I'm slow leveling and it bothers me because when I finally hit cap (say in a month) nobody will probably be doing stuff anymore lol.

So just started the game.
Quite good, very good in fact.

I was wondering, so it is possible to up all class to 50 and all advanced class to 50?
Jobs too?

ALso it is better to up a class completely to 50 - or 30? - before starting another class to obtain advanced class?
Or is there no rules?

Well, beat Turn 1 today in Bahamut's Coil. Final boss of it was pretty challenging from a healing perspective. Tanks get hit so hard, lol. Turn 2 seems interesting from what we tried of it.
