Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

I don't really mind the names, if only for the reason that everyone will end up referring to them as "Super Smash 3DS" and "Super Smash U", the same way everyone refers to the original Smash as "Super Smash Bros. 64" even though it didn't have 64 in the title.

Nintendo completely ditched the whole concept that these are toys being played with, right? I mean the N64 opening with them being pulled our of the toybox and the stage being a thing of imagination was one of the best reasons for the different worlds to suddenly be together. It also explained the whole reason for the final boss being a giant hand.

I'm really hoping if we do have a story or single player mode that we actually get to go into the video games universe, akin to Melee more than Brawl but on a bigger scale.

They are trophies since Melee I believe. Don't think they'll change it this time.

Forgot about that. They were toys in SSB64, they were Trophies in Melee, and in Brawl they were from parallel universes. So, considering they went from the fun of toys to the non-interactive trophies to the real universes...I suppose whatever's less playful than parallel universes is next.

Yeah, the concept of the series has gotten progressively less fun with each entry. Sort of a bummer, even if it ultimately doesn't mean much.

Got my Wii U yesterday....now the year-ish long wait begins. :

Nice, just got mine as well. Did you get the Wind Waker version? I'm a HUGE Zelda fan and was waiting for a limited edition console with zelda game to be released before picking it up.

Really hoping Link gets a buff in the new game. It'd be nice for him to be on the higher end of mid-tier for once since I'm almost positive with his current move set (which I think we've had confirmation in screenshots and gameplay his moveset is unchanged) he could ever be high tier.

I feel like Sakurai always overestimates how useful Link's items when he balances the character. Hopefully the team at Namco gets it right.

Yeah I completely agree. I mean all of his items definitely make him unique and should give him an advantage but they either don't pack enough punch, are too slow, and aren't spammable enough to be useful. I would love for them to scrap a few and revamp his moveset. IMO - get rid of the bow and arrow as well as the bombs, make the boomerang feel like the 64 one and make the hooks got faster.

Anyone have ideas for different movesets for link?

Pokemon Trainer reveal tonight. Get hype! Just kidding. Man, I'd really just like the Dojo to come back. At least we got something new every night.

Dat smoke ball reveal. Memories.

I thought you were listing things to improve him and then you went and said this

Every Monday I always hope we get something nice to start off the week right...

I kind of hope we see some Assist Trophies and PokeBall Pokemon soon, though.

This is absolutely right. The same goes for Samus as well. Oddly enough Toon Link doesn't fall into this category.

If you wanted to be good in Brawl with Link you had to do some real montage and time skip training. I knew some guys who were extremely affective with him on a competitive level but man they had to pull out every advanced technique in the book. Though because of his aweful knock back it would still take forever for them to get a stock.

Ive been so busy, haven't read this thread much ;-;

I doubt were getting a peach pic today, we got too many last week so hes gonna slow down with her I think....im expecting a item actually. Or even a new non veteran character.

I actually like the names. It reminds me of the "...for WonderSwan" title on games like Makaimura for WonderSwan or Lode Runner for WonderSwan.

I really hope the 3DS version ends up delivering. Thing is, it looks so damn good right now I'm afraid it'll look crap in motion (it didn't from the short clip in the Dev Direct) or they'll substantially lower the quality before the final version.

Eh, it's Sakurai. Kid Icarus suggests he knows how to use the 3DS hardware to its fullest capacity.

I still cant get over that kong at EVO he was doing SO WELL, and then he choked ;_; he had all of gaf on his side.

Anyone that doesn't play as Fox, Sheik, or Falco is easy for me to get behind. Donkey Kong is one my personal favorites, and that person did him justice.
