Went from 1 to 50 on Culinarian this weekend. Their recipes need fewer items and more powerful effects but I can use it for now. I died my Crafter AF yellow, muwaha.I now want some Mabo Tofu.

I find that hard to believe as we simply couldn't kill the adds on the first boss fast enough. I had a pink ilevel 45 weapon at the time and AF armor. I was told to run Wanderer's Palace instead.

As pointed out, AK is built for around level i50 because that's what you need to clear to get access to the i55 Grand Company equipment. So having up to date gear is more than enough. i50 weapons like the Unfinished Relics or an i55 crafted weapon (which all the jobs have) should be good.

The big thing is that folks often flail really hard against bosses and that makes it harder to kill stuff quickly. Like the Demon wall has a small DPS check in that you'll eventually get pushed on to the poison but it's mostly easy going up until then and the prickly part is handling the bees and dodging the wall at the same time. It's something most people can't do.

Also, most PLDs don't stop using Shield Oath on the Wall. He Wall doesn't directly target a single person as far as I can tell and hits everyone with a mild AOE. So PLDs should be on Sword Oath for the fight until the bees.

Farming tomes for different jobs and I can't stand AK or CM anymore, so boring.

I'm keeping it to once or twice a day myself. I'm also looking at other avenues for gear advance as well to keep my sanity. Someone of the weaker tome ones can be made up for with materia/crafted so that saves you the time of farming tomes if you're willing to spend some cash.

Yep, wall doesn't need a tank. Three manned it one day while our tank was afk

Ok, started this weekend. I'm not much of an MMO guy (only played ff11 and WoW for about two months each at launch), so I'm having fun but still pretty intimidated so far. I'm a level ten arcanist.

All soloing though, doesn't seem like a very social game in that I don't often see a lot of people chatting.

After running Wanderer's Palace, I managed to get an updated book (ilevel 55) as well as an updated belt (ilevel 55). All of my Jewelery, though, is still white and around ilevel 45. Where can I get that equipment updated?

There are a few reasons why.

1. The game doesn't require chat, everything to explained by the game itself. It's a very anti-social game.
2. On PC, from my experience, bringing up the chat window can be annoying or get you killed. Pressing Enter suspends control of character while you type up in a chat.
3. Most PS3 users dont have keyboards.

With DL out the ass and +1's everywhere, Titan's a joke now.
A healer and two DPS flew off in the midway through the last phase and we still handled him easy.

If only BC was like that.

Damn, the GAF guild must be really full. I have already seen a few of you running around. If you see Ayperos Ray salute you, that's me.

So I have no more quests, nor more hunting log left. Rank 2 isn't open for me yet, I guess I have to do Satasha to continue forward?

Yeah if you've done everything else you can do and still havent opened new stuff, hit up the story stuff.

Things have been pretty talkative for me, but then again I try to answer whenever I see a question. Most chat seems to occur in towns or random shout conversations in the field. That and you have Free Companies. XI was the same way now that I think about it. Aside from party talks, and city shout chats, most of the talk seemed to come from within the linkshell.

Only about 100-150 are on at a time, and even then less than 20 people chat regularly.

At least when I was on yesterday, a lot of that chat was about end-game stuff. For people like me that are not really at the endgame yet, I don't even know how I'm supposed to contribute to conversations like that.

I haven't talked to anyone other than the few people from dungeons.

They were people from another server though.

Met a really cool bard fighting garuda but he was also on another server =/

Most all MMO's are pretty much a solo game up until you hit the endgame content. The game pushes you along a progression path with a metric ton of stuff to continually be doing that can be accomplished on your own. Most people are just running about their own business en route to 50.

In a few levels you will reach the first few party dungeons which will be your first taste of social play however. The plotline story will force you into that stuff, its also the point where I usually fall head over heels in love with the genre.

lol I just end up asking questions about whats going on for future reference.

Gotta get a free company (not sure what server you are on) or make some parties via the same server. Of course that should be easier once the duty finder updates hit.

I have a ls from xi even though it's kind of split across 2 servers now. Maybe I should start joining new LSes :o

It's just kind of difficult since unlike XI, you don't get a lot of chances to help others out, everyone is just doing things for themselves.

There was a lot of talk in parties for me. Of course it happened where things were bad like no mp, or links and adds, or asking to wait after a chain 6 to rest. These things don't happen in this game because it doesn't have to.

This is one of the biggest things I miss. Everything is soloable, nothing in dangerous outside of dungeons, and even with crafting most of the materials you can get by yourself or by AH. No drops needed by an NM or whatever.

If you're running Brayflox as a CNJ/THM/WHM/BLM, here's a good tip for ya: You can put the second mid-boss to sleep. Give that sucker the snooze while your tank/DPS take out the add that pops up with Brayflox for an easier time.

...Of coure, that's if you aren't running with randoms that ignore the add and keep hitting the main target anyway.

Yeah, my DPS ally yesterday told me to do that, I wanted to but the tank and other DPS were taking mad damage and I was too worried they might die before I got sleep off...

I guess this is my answer to level up THR for Swiftcast already. Not like leveling WHM will get any easier soon (getting close to level 42)

Yep well the good news is that means more people for the coil. The bad news is you can't out gear that place

FFXIV is even going to add a "here, you can win now" buff to fights as new patches are released. When you lose several times to a fight, you get a buff that makes the fight easier. I imagine it won't help people that can't dodge without a boss mod blaring warning klaxons at them though. Man some people fail hard at Titan HM.

shit like this is making me lose all faith in the game.

For jewelry go with HQ stat ones from the markets, if you can. Black Pearl/Zircon for SMN and Tourmaline/Turquoise (or whatever) for SCH depending on your preference. I prefer Zircon Rings and Black Pearl for the other accessories for SMn. I use Tourmaline on my SCH.

Scour the markets for i55 green gear if you're looking for other upgrades from your AF (though you really don't need them). Those have marginally better stats and can sometimes be found really cheap. If you can pick up the HQ ones, those have a few points more and can tide you over until you get i60 from AK.

I kinda miss the social aspect, I got into XI late but I kinda enjoyed the book burn groups, had opportunities to chat, especially in that bloody Crawler's Nest when the puller had to run all over the place trying to find enemies to pull because we killed them too fast.

Seeing as I was the MNK, I ended up as that poor puller.

So what I'm reading is I should ditch Warrior and start leveling up the appropriate classes to get Paladin now?

That depends, do you want to play main tank? You can still WAR tank, you just won't be holding the main boss aggro since you don't have the best dmg mitigation. I just watched a WAR/PLD group do Coil turn 4 if it's any indication.

Oh, I can't believe I was scared of going into Sashtasa, man that was easy. And I got a green belt! But guess what? Next quest I get wants me to go into another dungeon. I'm level 19 now. So close to getting my chocobo...

There are 3 dungeons in the story from 15-18. You can't get a chocobo until you clear the 3 dungeons b/c when you do that you're allowed to join a Grand Company..this is if I'm remembering correctly, so keep doing the dungeons. The story will lead you to a GC.

Have to do lvl 20 Ifrit fight first before you can choose a GC. Its the last group based content in the main story needed to join one.

There's a small group of 15-20 people who go on mumble. They are pretty fun though, it's been a good time when I've been on there.

We have a few robots, too! Can't forget the robot voices! Gonna be a sad day when Mont and Gryvan get mics. lol (Though, at this rate, that's probably never gonna happen.)

Wasn't working for me all weekend trying to launch from reddot.guildwork.

I know there were a couple times this weekend that Red Dot's mumble server was simply full. (25/25)

I got an amusing message when I came back from being afk and several people had gotten the boot to make room for active players.

I remember the days of yester-year when Mont had a mic.
Now his witty quips are accentuated by the smooth-talking robo voice of Mumble.

Second AF+1/Relic weapon, I think I'm ready for the coil !

You have a ways to go before the chocobo. They give you quite a run around before you get access to it.

Your character level doesn't determine when you unlock these things, you got to progress in the story quests.

Need a quick Amdapor Keep confirmation

The chest just after the first boss, on the left and behind you after you teleport - is that chest only ever gil, or can it randomly drop jewelry pieces like the other two non brick chests?

That chest always drops 1400 gil worth of allagan pieces.

Correct. This dungeon contains the following:

First boss: 1 armor loot chest
- 1 gil item chest
- 1 Accessory loot chest
- 1 gil item chest
Second boss: 2 armor loot chest
3rd boss: 1 armor loot chest

Generally all gill chests are skipped. The accessory chest and boss chests are looted.

There's also the pet chest before the first boss.

If they provide a progressive nerf, the boss kill should give progressively worse loot or no loot at all.
I don't like that, either, because then many groups will want to leave the instance if you even wipe one time, which can make things pretty difficult if you're using the duty finder.

The obvious solution is to not provide a progressive nerf to post-story content.
There are people that don't have the skill for these bosses and aren't capable of developing the skill necessary for them and I think that is fine how it is.

There is no reason to make it so that everybody can do HM Titan and above regardless of skill level.
