So I've hit 50 and started getting into I guess end game content and there is a few things I notice about the game at this point.

The combat lag severely impacts the game. I don't know if anyone else notices it, if it's input lag or what but the combat lag makes it too easy to place the blame on the game instead of being able to activate a skill ''on time''

I off tanked... If you can even call it off tanking Ifrit HM last night and holy hell if that's not the most shameful use of mechanics ever I don't know what is. I literally did nothing except auto attack with my finger hovering over the shield bash button waiting for eruption to pop up. Not that it's hard to stun him, but with shield bash being on GCD and there not being any Telegraph of the boss before eruption is cast combined with the fact that the cast time is faster than GCD and the combat lag, it was pointless to put in any rotation of abilities for fear of missing that stun.
This isn't just a problem for Ifrit HM I've had this problem throughout the whole game, if they are going to make bashes a mechanic for boss fights it needs it's own GC.

Buffs that will not persist through death are another issue. I'm sorry but I am not willing to purchase food that increases my stats and then have it wear off after a death, if you want your player base to be throwing themselves at walls in dungeons you can't expect them to sink money into stat buffs that expire after every death.

The other major gripe I have is what has already been mentioned is the reliability and effectiveness of threat generating abilities. First off provoke is a joke, it should apply a focus debuff that lasts for at least a couple of seconds forcing you to the top of the threat list and giving you a chance to regain control as the tank, it wears off too fast and allows dps to steal threat, I have to provoke and shield lob and usually run over to the target and start my combo on it before I can regain control.

AOE tanking is god awful. I cannot comment on warrior AOE tanking but as a paladin forcing me to tab target and spam flash is not an effective way of doing this. One simple solution for paladin at least it's to add emity upon a block, there you have multiple targets attacking you, your generating threat on every block to all targets, still forcing tab targeting if dps is AOE but not locking you to it every engagement.

There are other issues I have that I'm sure will be addressed over time but I must admit I'm not familiar with SE and their understanding of mmo mechanics, I know this isn't their first one but I would argue that since ff11 the mmo landscape has changed drastically and I don't know if I have faith in SE to grasp this long term.

Tldr fix combat lag.

This is one case where I definitely think they should take some cues from WoW. Stuff like off the GCD interrupts, group wide food buffs, and simplify picking up mobs a little bit.

It can be pretty rough with a shoddy tank that I have to heal shortly after the pull, and rip aggro immediately, and once I have it and start having to heal myself to stay alive, they usually aren't getting the mob back.

The problem is a lot of abilities don't activate until the animation is over, and depending on the ability that animation can be a number of seconds. As an example, Hallowed Ground is the worst for this. I've had that ability go off cooldown activated but I still end up dying because it takes forever to go off after you hit the ability.

The whole warrior talk is just crazy. I really wish people would still go for diverse parties if only for the bonuses. Never want to see people double up on a specific class.

Got the helm too ^^

Would have worked perfectly as Dark Knight armor.

EDIT: I wonder whats causing people to have combat lag? I certainly dont have the best internet (lowest tier of whats available via ATT uverse), but i've never been hit by an area of effect attack as long as I was paying attention / didnt miss a stun.

Guess who I just killed? :P Does he not have loot, or did I just wait to long watching the cutscene? Oh well, one step closer to mount. Does it matter what grand company I go for?

That story mode fight is the only time I've felt like a shitty player. I lost track of how many times I couldn't get out of the way of his attacks and got knocked off and killed. And being a WHM, once I died, the group was pretty much fucked after that.

What worked for us is to just not get near the center when he does his megaton press jump or whatever, and of course just keep an eye on his straight earth attack. The indicator for that seems to be different in that it glows light blue and has a bit of a haze effect.

EDIT: None of the story mode primals have items, pick the GC that inspires you the most.

No idea why they decided releasing with BC was a good idea instead of CT. By the time CT comes out I will most likely completely out gear it.

They released the general stats for the global population a while back across all servers at TGS.
The average level was still mid 30's. Hell, there are tons of people who still see Titan as impossible.

I'm sure CT will simply be for them.
Personally I'm just curious to see the continuation of the storyline.

Gratz! And nah, only the HM versions have loot.

And yeah. You should totally go for the Immortal Flames. Cause they're the coolest, and Ul'dah is the best city.

Really though it doesn't matter. Any gear you would get from them at end-game will be replaced fairly quickly. The biggest thing would actually be next patch. Your PvP faction will be tied to your GC. Pick whichever one you like the most.

The group I ran with the other day had a THM that knew he couldn't side step it, so instead he just ran forward every time lol. There's such a delay that he would get to the center, then just get knocked back, but not far enough to fall off.

It worked, even though I had to heal him each time.

No company specific rewards? I kinda want to go Grandia, cause that is where I started this character, so kinda feels like home.

I feel like their stats are extremely skewed due to combining all possible classes for each player. I mean, if someone decided to level one class to level 50, their average level would only be level 32.5 due to having to level the other class to level 15 for the job.

I would be interested to see some of their census stats for combat classes using the highest level of class per player

I know for a fact that is not my internet or my connection to the game server itself, it's the time difference between when the ground indicator goes up and when the ability goes off, it seems off. I have had it before where you start to see the cast, I hit my shield bash, it clearly hits the target before their cast has finished and yet it doesn't actually interrupt until the enemy has finished off their attack. I can live with it but I definitely don't feel confident that I landed the interrupt every time.
That lack of confidence isn't from me not reacting and hitting the button, it's lacking confidence that the game registers that I have inputted the command to interrupt and successfully interrupt the cast. If you can't have confidence that the game will react accordingly how can you feel solid about these end game encounters.

I guess, and most of you long term mmo players especially from WoW will understand, it's lacking that ''feeling''. It's hard to describe that solid feeling of game playbbut I'm sure most of you know what I mean.

There are plenty, but at end-game those rewards are outclassed pretty quickly, and the ones you can get while leveling are pretty equal across all three factions.

The way attributes works in this games means party bonuses mean very little.

Alright. Thanks! Last question. About seals, will any fate drop them? Even if I level sync to a low area one, or do I want to hunt the high level fates?

Some of it is just players are probably making excuses. There does seem to be something weird about canceling spells though. I know when moving it can take up to half a second to actually cancel my cast. If I move after my cast is already at 2 seconds, sometimes the spell still goes off. Maybe something similar is happening with interrupts?

As a FYI, the server updates your position in the following situations:

0.3 seconds since the last update
When you cast anything.

That means:
If you cast an istant just before getting out \ finish casting something and move out, you'll be hit in that 0.3s window, which on your screen is 0.5s due to lag.
Or, if you cast an istant JUST after getting out, you'll never get hit.

CT would help with killing titan. CT isn't meant for after Titan, BC is.

Alright. Thanks! Last question. About seals, will any fate drop them? Even if I level sync to a low area one, or do I want to hunt the high level fates?

Any will, though the seals will be proportionate to the level of the fate (as in like 20 for a level 5 fate)

I've had 0 issues with this game, except when there is 100 people in Ul'dah, then my fps goes to like 19.

Still, I think this a pretty optimized engine. I'm very impressed.

But this is not about the fps and the graphics engine, is about the server delay with positioning and actions from players and enemies.

CT would help with killing titan... CT isn't meant for after Titan, BC is.

That exactly what I meant.
BC itself is a continuation of the storyline. More than likely we're all going to get carried through it one way or another once higher ilvl gear drops through CT and the echo buff gets dropped into it anyway.

There are still quests in Vesper that require BC to be completed first. Curious to see what those entail for the storyline. Personally I expect SE to carry players through older raids as new ones drop. Titan for one is only difficult since it takes more effort to out gear him versus Ifrit/Garuda. The same will hold true for current content anyway since 50 isn't even our max level on top of the limited ilvl gear allowed atm.

So your telling me melee has another disadvantage.

Man, Odin's set looks a lot like old-school Dark Knight armor.

To all the people that keep saying Dragoon AF looks like Dark Knight, look at the Odin gear. That's what actual Dark Knight stuff looks like with the full face mask and the implied muscle definition in the armor.

Hit 50 on SMN, got my AF. Tried doing the last SCH quest at ike 4am, got tenderized by Tonberries, decided to leave it for the moment.

I should really finish the plot, Cape Westwind is looking at me in the Duty Finder, and I'm wondering if the Magitek Mount is really worth the hassle of those last few dungeons.

Well, I mean, if you want to do the endgame stuff, you have to finish the story. It's not just for the magitek mount. The story continues afterward, some quests are only available then. Like the quests to unlock the hard mode primals.

I'm not talking about fps I have no issues with fps even in heavily populated areas I'm limited by server load before my pc is limiting me.

I'm talking about lag in combat due to cast times vs inputs from the player.

The only time i'd had that happen is with pacification, but i think thats how the debuff is supposed to work. Cant say i've seen that with shield bash yet, unless I just havent been paying attention.

EDIT: Wait so Crystal Tower is supposed to be easier than Bahamut's Coil? Also isnt there another dungeon named after Bahamut? A labyrinth of sorts? Or is the coil just the correct english translation?

They're going to be adding turns to the coil through patches. Just like they are planning on adding floors to the crystal tower.

They don't intend for players to be "done" with coil or crystal tower in the traditional sense of completing a dungeon.

Yeah you can hit the shield bash and it's an issue. I can consistently hit it on Ifrit eruptions but only if I hit it immediately as soon as you see him casting, let's say his eruption cast gets to 80 percent, I'm locked to a GC and can't shield bash to then.

Let's say the eruption cast time is at 2 seconds. And I'm locked on a global cool down till its reached 1.5 seconds. That leaves. 5 seconds left on his cast. I use shield bash which is supposed to be an instant cast ie: 0 seconds. Counting for unavoidable latency of .1 - .2 seconds theoretically I have bashed him with .3 to .4 seconds left on his cast time, interrupt successful correct? No its not he still casts eruption and then .2 seconds later it registers my bash.

It's a problem of either the cast time being too tight, or combat lag with instant active abilities.

This is why an interrupt such as shield bash needs it's on GC cause right now in Ifrit anyways I'm only there to bash eruption as soon as it comes up, I can't risk using any abilities for fear of missing the interrupt due to cast time and combat lag vs my GC timer of my abilities

Also sorry for the poor typing I'm on my phone :(

Got the helm too ^^

Ragnarok wiped at Odin yesterday. Pretty hilarious sigh.

Yeah, the progression should be Primal(Except Titan?)--->Crystal Tower(And Titan?)---> Coil of Bahamut.

They kinda fucked up the gears progression and end-game progression. People are already doing the Coil because PLD and BRD are broken.

HM Primals, AK, and basically everything end-game is locked out until after finishing the main story.

The Coil is the winding labyrinth, so far as we know. Crystal Tower is supposed to be ilevel 80? At least I think that's where it falls along the spectrum:

AF (50) -> AK green drops (60) -> Darklight (70) -> Crystal Tower (80) -> Allagan / AF+1 (90)

I'm confused why they are continually updating two pieces of content, when one makes the other content's progression completely pointless.

Oh that, yeah its not combat lag, its just the timing requirement is pretty strict. You have to time just right. The ability has to be pretty early in it's cast meter.

I'm confused why they are continually updating two pieces of content, when one makes the other content's progression completely pointless.

Because not everyone is a hardcore player that wants to go from Darklight Gear or grind forever on getting AF+1 to doing BC. Some people, especially in the non legacy servers will want the path of progression where they take smaller steps.

I'm confused why they are continually updating two pieces of content, when one makes the other content's progression completely pointless.

Crystal Tower/Bahamut are the capstones to the content patches when they're added. They're continually adding to both of them, but probably not as often as the rest of the content. Sounds more like they'll add a few floors every couple of patches to keep that story going.

I'm with ya Gritesh. Between animation priority and the laggy server, the game ends up feeling mushy and imprecise.

I'm to the point where every AOE-heavy fight feels more like a dice-roll than anything. Will I get instagibbed even though I'm 20 feet away from the marker by the time the AOE goes off? If I activate my stun when the mob's cast is at 75%, will it stop the attack in time?

Anyway, I hope Francel is fixed by the time I get home. This'll be day 5 for me of being stalled out on the story if not. :[

Feel like I'm one of the few people who never seems to have issues with the AoE's hitting me. What I do have issues with is some of the animation lock that still goes on between rotating skills. Trying to roll Circle of Scorn > Spirits despite being instant cast still requires skills the wind down.

Otherwise, AoEs themselves don't cause much of a problem for me.

Where is the feature-request page because a cross-server friend list is truly necessary.
Second time now I come across a great party and we had loads of fun. But only to say goodbye and not be able to run a dungeon again together afterwards.

Cross-server chat is a bad idea. You think gold spammer's are bad now? Just imagine if there was the ability to message anyone on any server. I know where you're coming from, but I do not believe we'll ever see this happen.

Yep. The literal translation is "Great Labyrinth of Bahamut"; they're the same thing.

Tower/Coil are planned to be on an alternating cadence with each patch bringing a new tier to one or the other. Tower #1 is the "normal" path to relic and coil.

If you cant Stun before the meter is at least at 50%, move out of the way.

You arent. I'm there too. I dunno if its just reaction time from playing 1.0 with no indicators (flashback of 10 tonze and 100 tonze attacks) or i'm just so, worried I guess is the right word(?) about being the cause of a wipe. Not that i'm stressed over it or anything.

This. While I actually am a fairly hardcore player (mostly by virtue of simply having far too much free time on my hands), My schedule is simply too erratic to do "scheduled" raiding like BC would require. Using DF with CT still allows me a sense of progression.

Not if it required you accepting a friend request to see any chat from your cross-server friend, like how Battle.net does it. (Not counting CRZ in wow, since thats glorified server merger stuff)
