As one of GAF's biggest platformer fans this side of AniHawk, that post was just a marvelous deconstruction of everyone's thoughts on the genre versus what the main Mario series is/tries to be.
At the same time, that thread shows that there's a pretty big audience for the "Ninja Mario/Mario 64 Mario in expansive playgrounds" not being served. Some indie will get stupidly rich if they get something going with good overall design (artistic and mechanical) in that mold.
Edit: Agreed with BGBW below though.
Please don't bring that into this thread. This ridiculous debate needs to be contained.

So true. Snake has very little brand association with Nintendo, and so much more with Playstation.
Like I've said multiple times I don't think Batman would ever actually be in Smash but he's just the one wildcard/third party character I would like to see in Smash.
A Hat in Time might do a good job of filling that niche. I'm hoping for the best with that game, I donated $15 to their kickstarter.

There are very few third party characters I want in Smash, and I do think the video game origin rule is fitting, but Batman is Batman.
Maybe Batman will raid Metal Gear Solid and lock Snake up in Blackgate Penitentiary, Snake will proceed to get shanked to death by the Penguin, and never appear in another video game ever again. The end.
That would be better than Batman in Smash.

I really like how they adjusted Luigi's jump style. It make me wondering how much changes we would see from each characters in the games but at same time, I'm concerned that they mightn't able to add a lot of newcomers this time since they are focusing on upgrading old characters. At same time, I'm really happy that characters are getting upgraded, hopefully they would be much better in SSB4.
