Dragoons can avoid repels by using jump right as the cast bar is about to finish.

Really nice for keeping up the DPS and not getting pushed into that sludge in the back.

YoshiP said Coil wouldn't be on duty finder. He wants people to shout on their server and find groups for it. Crystal Tower on the other hand will be on Duty Finder.

After completing turn 1 of coil last night, I completely understand why.

PUGs in coil would make Titan HM PUGs seem like professional pre-mades. The amount of communication, understanding, and coordination required to get through these things is astounding.

We are to the point where we would avoid running with anybody not on VOIP if we could help it. The lack of communication makes things insanely frustrating.

The chest seems to be the most common piece - at least from my vast experience of running that dungeon over and over. Like the tanking chest piece drops 80% of the time for me. Mage one like 5%. <.>

I helped two people get the entire Battlemage set without seeing the Cavalry chestpiece drop even once. Eff that.

So, I'm just diving into this game and am really having a lot of fun. Hit level 11 last night, and while I like my archer, I want to play around with some of the other classes. From what I understand, my character can be any class he wants at any time, right? How do I switch to a new one? Will this reset my level to 1, or will I still be my current level? Also, do the quests reset as well, or do I just have to grind FATES to level up? Thanks in advance for the help.

Sorry for the noob question guys but could someone please explain to me what's the main difference between DPS and tank?Up until now i always thought that tanks and dps were pretty much the same thing.
Are tanks useful only for aggroing and taking damage while dps doing high damage?

Each class levels separately so you will be at level 1 in *that* class. Until you get access to the airship (around 16 or so) you'll only be able to switch to classes available in your area. The quests do not reset, but you do get a 50% xp bonus for all battle classes more than 2 levels lower than your highest (up until 50, where its a 50% bonus regardless, even if the class you're leveling is 49).

Pretty much. The tank's job is to not only keep aggro to prevent the dps and healers from taking damage, but also to position bosses in ways that AoE effects wont hit the party, etc. Your tank takes hits, your dps does damage, and your healers heal shit.

I'm with Sora... I helped ONE person get the battlemage body, and it took 30-40 runs to get one to drop, and he got it thankfully. Of those runs, we saw maybe 11 cavalry bodies drop. My roomate's the same, he's done maybe 15 runs, and 7 of those he's seen the cav body drop. RNG gunna RNG.

But isn't the one who does the highest damage also aggroing the enemies the most?Damage leads to aggro, right?

How do you add a mount into a macro? I'm wanting a single button to primarily ride/dismount my mount, but also as a secondary function to flee in battle should it be necessary, or sprint function in towns.

Tanks have abilities that generate much more enmity than any single action by any other class. Their job is to manage that enmity and make sure they're always #1 on the hate list.

It's also the DPS and healers job to make sure they don't surpass the enmity capabilities of the tank. (this mostly applies for endgame when it is very easy to pull agro from the tank)

What aeana said. All abilities, whether it be damage or healing, generates aggro (or enmity as it's called in XIV). Tanks have specific abilities that generates lots of enmity, despite their damage being 1/3-1/2 of that of a DPS class. If you look at say a Maurauder's abilities, you'll see a lot of them that say "Increases Enmity" or the like.

Edit: Responding to your post there - Tanks have taunts, but those are generally used to get aggro *back*. Their specific attacks are what they use to build up and keep it.

I'm seeing this for a while now.

What is ''AF'' gear? is that the relic set you get at level 45 and the Chest at lvl 50?

DL is Darklight set, that I know.

So AF+ is the Mythology Tome set?

I'm confused.

Thank you very much, that was very helpful.

Girlfriend picked this up yesterday for PS3 and I'm very tempted to get it now. The music is really what's getting to me the most, that and how nice it looks. The girl at the checkout yesterday started hugging the copy and went off on how great it is.

Cat people....

What's wrong with cat people

Furries creep me out.

Don't be presumptuous!
Jerks creep me out ;p

Following this thread somehow both takes the edge off AND instigates my itchiness for ARR during the work week. I'm building up both ARC and CNJ together still, even tho it's no longer need for BRD. I'm also trying to keep pace with my BOT, LTW, CRP, and WVR; mixing all of it up like this is really extending the life of the story for me. Based on some of the endgame discussion here, it seems like rushing is not a must ^_^

Has anyone played around with the Libra Eorzea app? It totally sucks, but can [will?] get totally better. Besides having a real mobile database, I'd especially like to see the FC aspects built up—check what my friends are up to, post to our board, etc. Sure YoshiP is plenty busy managing the actual, you know, game, but anyone heard any word on this otherwise? Been crazy recently, I coulda easily missed something.

Do it! The PS3 version will net you a free copy of the PS4 version when that comes out, or you can always get it on PC and still play with your girlfriend. The music and the class system was what sold me on the game. Kinda wish I was on Ultros with all of Gaf but my friends made their chars on Lamia when Ultros was locked and now I'm kinda stuck over there

Yesterday was the first time Duty > Recommendations mentioned Hunting Logs that needed to be completed in the area that I was in. I thought that was neat, but I don't think I've seen that pop up before about HLs.
They always have shown up for me. I always use that to see what I need to kill in a certain area combined with the little icon that appears above their head.

Would be nice if there was an option for a diablo style skeleton map with legends. Higher transparency works alright though.

Friendly tip. Do NOT buy any field gear or crafting gear from the AH. Buying that gear from NPCs should get you to the higher levels no problem, and as far as I'm aware all field/crafting gear in so me way is sold up to lvl 45.

It can be cheaper on the ah than vendors sometimes

How often should you upgrade your field gear as you level up? Every 5-10 levels?

We called the AF+ set in XI, the AF2 set or Relic gear. It's a different model and the name is different. It also came with the Relic weapons in the same update. It even has the same naming scheme, lol. So that's what I've been calling it.

A lot of it it craftable as well, though you may need several different classes to be able to make all the pieces.

Planning on leveling a few, depending on how painful only grinding fates is. I haven't been able to fate grind on my main at all, just because it's so mind numbing. Maybe the +50% fate exp bonus will help a little :p

might be more fun to level up a new char. with the new look and all the untouched quests. but you're right, that 50% bonus is fun as well. especially in dungeons.

they will only appear on rec. if you're in the same area as them. i don't think i've seen them appear anywhere else.

Not saying that you need it. I'm just saying for 99% of people Titan is the hardest content available. Coil seems out of reach to people without 8 geared members in an fc(something my fc lacks).

If this is the case, then there is no point in saving for weapon +1 because once you have, you have beaten all the content.

Your going to be waiting for your fc/trying to find a new one ect.

So why not "waste" your myth on increasing the chance to beat Titan?

Also, can you duty finder coil lol?

No you cannot duty finder coil, and quite frankly you wouldn't want to you need a coordinated group. not saying that cannot happen in duty finder but chances are low.

I keep up with field gear when I can. Usually every 5 since the return on that gear is more noticeable than battle gear.

It depends. I sprung for HQ gear at 35, and while it cost a bundle, I'm finding it perfectly adequate to make the best HQ stuff for turn-ins of the level 40 leves which will get me all the way to 45. Also, if you get HQ jewelry early on, you won't need to replace it for a very long time unless for some reason you need 1-2 more CP.

A friendlier tip is to never waste gil or time crafting GP+ items. The game design was weird to scale GP with CP. CP+3 can go a long way, while GP+3 goes no where since the least expensive ability you can use is 50GP.

Of course, once level 46+, get all the GP+ you can get, since you will have a ability that uses 500GP.

Some mining/botany locations grants you an extra attempt if you meet a certain criteria in attribute, such as STR >75 or MND > 60, for example. The best way to get a boost in those attributes are in the accessories category. Also, never sacrifice Gathering or Perception for GP. This includes food.

This is true. Level 27+ HQ Silver accessories give the same or more CP than the level 37+ Mythril NQ pieces.

You know whats really stupid?

I ran AK yesterday for the first time. As soon as it started, the two DPS began to bitch me out for not having shield oath on, and attributed to me not being able to play the game right. People are so on edge on shit and just complete idiots. Im glad the healer was patient with me and taught me how to run it and do the boss battles right.

psh naw dog. i ain't holding back for no one. ak trash ain't nothing but a thang

It's also possible to throw on a materia if you're so inclined, but these stat checks are really there as a bonus for mining stuff that is at or below your level. At level 24 I noticed that I needed exactly one more STR to get an extra gathering attempt from a lv. 25 node, and when I dinged 25 I was able to get that extra attempt.

Or you can make HQs rain. I love doing that for GSM.
