When people use words/phrases that "sound" like the correct one, but aren't.

Two that I've seen in the past two days here are:
"muzzle memory" (muscle memory)
"double hedge sword" (double-edged sword)

Another common one is:
"should of"/"would of"/"could of" (should've/would've/could've or should have/would have/could have)

The other thing that really bothers me is people using an apostrophe improperly in words that end with an "s." In particular, it seems like half the time, people think that any word that ends with an "s" needs an apostrophe before it. It's painful.

Yes, I am a Grammar Nazi. And yes, I fully someone/multiple people to say that the thing they hate is Grammar Nazis. Also, as is typical with posts like this, it wouldn't surprise me if I made an error somewhere and people point it out. Ah well.

I'm not the type of person to go around pointing stuff like this out, usually - although sometimes I do. But, I can't help but notice them, and it bothers me. Yes, "first world problems."

I don't think is too bad to just correct them if you see they made a mistake. This is probably a poster whose first language isn't English, and they never mind learning.

The funny thing is, half the time people whose first language isn't English are better at it than people who have English as their native language.

And, I would definitely not criticize someone's English whose first language wasn't English, considering that I can't write passably in any of the three languages that I've studied. While I know some people would welcome the opportunity to be corrected and learn - and I'm happy to do that - definitely wouldn't criticize, if nothing else.

I got another one. People who ask for things to be banned. I've seen people say in passing, "The word _____ should be banned." Really? That's how you deal with things you don't like, you ban them? Just use your fucking ignore list, asshole. Sheesh. PEACE.

You obviously know that a bunch of the complaints in this thread, probably the most common actually, are about you and others like you. See, for example, the several posts directly underneath yours on the same page. Where do you get off complaining about anyone's posting habits when you have willfully been practicing perhaps the most annoying ones for years? Serious question; I wanna know what the hell goes through your mind that you sign off PEACE a dozen times in one thread and think it's normal or nifty.

This reminds me of my nephew. When he was learning to speak, there was this phrase he would always use that we couldn't figure out what he meant:

"Make it the cee-pee word."

And we'd all look at each other like, what does that even mean?

My mom finally figured out that he was trying to say "disappeared," but because he's never heard of that word, he deconstructed it into the aforementioned.

Junior members trying to be funny in non-funny threads.

That certainly isn't limited to just junior members. Someone died in a terrible accident. PUN PUN PUN LOLZ. Might as well just go to Reddit.

You know, as a non-native speaker this was (and sometimes still is) confusing as hell.

I really have to struggle sometimes to understand what people mean when they write the words incorrectly. It doesn't help that the pronounciation rules in English are quite convoluted so speaking the sentences out loud doesn't always help the matters. I've spent years in school learning the language, but nothing could prepare me for how awful some native speakers are with it.

I was ignoring people who use the term "salt" or "salty" in it's currently popular fashion, and I was only seeing posts from four other posters.

It's lonely out here.

Oh man, I hate that. Post something that doesn't go with the flow of a thread and someone calls you salty. It's so lame.

People who post clearly inappropriate comments in a thread about the death of a person. Whether the comments are trying to be funny, hateful or otherwise insensitive. If the person who died is clearly terrible, e.g. Ariel Castro, then I don't mind nasty posts too much. Otherwise, ugh. Many such posters swiftly get banned, thankfully.

People who do a terrible job formatting and structuring their posts....to the point where the post is difficult to follow and read. No punctuation, no paragraphs (I.e. big blob of text), etc. OTOH I don't mind if the post is all lowercase or has occasional typos or the occasional misused word or whatever, since I can usually grasp what it's saying anyway.

Maybe he doesn't think it's either one of those things. Maybe it's just some shit he does.

p.s. colon.

love,
someone who doesn't really understand the hate for PEACE

(though whomever signed off with WAR -- that shit is hilarious)

Better than last year's wave of "ad hominem" accusations around the web.

"I think ___."
"That's dumb."
"AD HOMINEM!! BAD FORM!!!"

Yeah, pretty much any form of commonly parroted language that embeds itself in GAF's collective mind.

"Ludo-narrative dissonance" over on gaming-side.

Just responding with a meme in general is such a lazy dismissal that refutes nothing.

My pet hate is reflex console warrior fanboy responses. They're rabid in the run up to launch and someones been feeding them meat. They also mass meme spam, salt has defiantly last it's savour round here.

Birthday thread posters; "Hey, look at me!", and "LOL" answers, which is an easy way to disagree with what's being posted, without actually offering any worthwhile counter arguments.

Yo....birthday threads...... BIRTHDAY THREADS. Fuck, is there anything more pathetic.

I was being too harsh. It actually doesn't bother me. Just think one needs to check himself if he's gonna complain about bad forum habits while also having a habit many people also consider bad.

Love,
Jado

P.S. My use of the semicolon was correct if that's what you meant by "p.s. colon." And the P.S. goes after the signature.

Who ever posted "B-b-buh" (or however you spell it, lol)....I've seen it at least 5 times just skimming some threads in the last few minutes.

I'm the same way, but I try to keep in mind that English isn't everyone's first language.

One of my pet peeves is in movie discussion threads when the entirety of someone's movie review is, "It was fucking awesome!"

Yeah, thanks for your insight, Ebert.

What pisses me off is people using ad-blocker but saying they don't have it on GAF. Trust me 95% use it on GAF but don't want to get banned by Evilore.

Quoting an op that's very large with lots of images just to respond with the last sentence at the very bottom. Infuriating and if I was a mod it'd be a permaban right on the spot.

fucking edit large quotes people!

I use ABP, and have it turned off only for GAF and Red Letter Media. I don't know why people feel the need to say they use it in the first place unless it comes up in a specific conversation like this. I actually click on ads at RLM, too.

Editing a post to quote someone who posted after your post. Just make another reply.

This, so much this. One and done, good sir. #dead

The ads aren't even offensive on the Neogaf website. They're just tiny banners on the top and bottom. to top it off. All I get is stuff by phones mostly, so I'm not complaining.

You Know When People Post Words That All Begin With A Capital Letter And Dont Even Use Any Punctuation

and when some people talk in all italics or use different colored fonts to "represent themselves" (not pictured here)

and people who.......................make odd sentences like this.............sighhhh.......................................................................................lol

Thread Titles With All Words in Caps As if it Were the Title of a Book When Really it's Just a Sentence

Well I Guess We Can Relate To Something

Welp and yup have really been bothering me lately. A whole lot of things are bothering me now that I've been reading the thread and things have been brought to my attention.

Inspired by another thread, I groan whenever there's a picture of an actor in their 40s or 50s and people say, "OMG they look old!"

There's a reason normal people age more than Tom Cruise appears to have aged. Even so, many Hollywood actors still get plastic surgery to minimize the effects of their aging.

But yea, people in their 40s and 50s aren't supposed to look like they're 33.

when somebody makes a semi-clever first reply and the next five pages are filled with posts quoting it and saying things like "I'm dead", "slayed", "first post of the forever", 'LOoooooooooL". Jesus christ it was the first reply, everybody saw it, no need to quote it, again.

JohnDoe nailed that, though.
