Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Pikachu: Series rep
Jigglypuff: Gen 1 Rep (now potentially gen VI rep)
Pokemon Trainer: Gen 3 Rep
Lucario: Gen 4 Rep

They might wanna fit Gen 5 in there somewhere. Remember when everyone saying Zoroark would replace Lucario?
and almost nobody was excited about that?

I'm kinda glad Mega Mewtwo happened because that's when I stopped seeing Zoroark get suggested. Although if we had to get a Gen 5 rep, I'd personally want Scrafty (ain't happenin' I know).

Mewtwo would be a pretty neat contender if they made him into a morphing character with his two mega evolutions. Gen V doesn't really have a heck of a lot that sticks out, though. The same issue that Gen 2 has, where nothing really became a mascot that wasn't already related to Pikachu.

3DS has a far more appealing software though.

This.

Surprised you own a 3DS then.

What are you even talking about? The 3DS has far more appealing games on the system than the Wii U which has hardly anything but ports of old games we've already played and game's not many people really want. (Evident in hardware sales)

I.. actually don't know, actually. Usually I would agree but, maybe its just me. I know people who do not give a shit about a 3ds who just want to play smash bros. Like smash bros is the only nintendo game they play.

that may change, since the wii u is a failure.

I just can't imagine the Wii U skyrocketing in the next year. They had a price-drop if i'm correct it's in place now, and it's still sitting at the bottom of sales charts. It's just not appealing enough, so I can't see a plausible reason why people would buy a Wii U for one game when the vast majority would have a 3DS instead. And since Smash on 3DS also has online play, there's no reason to see it as gimped other than the pretty graphics (and possibly any unannounced features).

Random, but could anyone make this have a transparent background for me? :x

I know, but a large portion of that appealing software's series can/will be on the Wii U and will most likely have similar gameplay. If you own a 3DS, the eventual lineup of the Wii U would be similar first-party wise.

NSMB2 - NSMBU
DKCR3D - DKCTF
SM3DL - SMW3D
OOT3D - WWHD
MK7 - MK8
MH3U on both platforms
SSB4 on both platforms
Yoshi on both platforms
FExSMT is something that is not quite known.

Nintendo has a problem here.

3DS seemingly exclusive stuff:
LM2
M&L:DT
PM:SS
AC:NL
KIU (how could I forget this)
Some 3rd-party games

Wii U seemingly exclusive stuff:
NintendoLand
Pikmin 3
X
Some 3rd-party games

Victini would have been a really fun rep for Gen V. It's a shame that Gen VI had so much renewed emphasis on Gen I and basically guaranteed that isn't happening...

Although I'm honestly even more bummed that Gen VI has no mascot Pokemon for Smash that aren't Mega Evolutions of past Pokemon. I feel like the last chance for a Gen VI rep was Pokemon Trainer having Gen VI starters, but with the new advertising push for Gen I's... well, that isn't happening, either.

Excluding Mewtwo, I really doubt Pokemon will get any newcomers in Smash 4, and that makes me kinda sad. :'s

Honestly, I think veterans with Mega forms would be at least nice way to represent Gen VI in some way.

Not a fan of the idea of Gen VI starters replacing Gen I starters.

We've got close to eight months from the release of X/Y to the very earliest possible launch for Smash for. It's not impossible that there's a decent contender hiding somewhere in the game that Sakurai already knows about.

Well, Mario 3D Land suited the 3DS well, a small-scoped game which worked great on 3DS.

Mario 3D World seems a bit too.. blown up for my liking and it's a major step-back from Galaxy games.

I'm not too interested in DKC, I enjoyed Returns but I feel it's enough for me.

WWHD, already played that a decade ago. I'm not keen on Pikmin as I suck as that type of game.

And that's all the Wii U has to offer, really for now anyway. (Probably missed out a lot of forgettable stuff).

3DS has loads. It has KIU, a brilliant game, FE:A an amazing SRPG, Animal Crossing, a fun life simulator, Monster Hunter (I know it's on Wii U, but I enjoy portability), Dream Team a good RPG, Mario Kart 7 and the list goes on.

There's a ton of games. Pokemon, Zelda, Bravely Default, Ace Attorney, MH4 (possibly) all on the horizon.

Big difference.

I'm sad that Sonic Lost World 3DS is more likely to outsell the Wii U version. DIMPS making more money than Sonic Team... :(

What are people even talking about? NSMBU is a 2+ million seller IIRC. People here keep acting like Smash is going to tank based on absolutely nothing

I didn't say any of that.

I'm not saying Sonic Lost World is going to tank on Wii U. I just think the 3DS version is going to sell better due to the larger userbase. (3DS version of Generations is apparently the best selling version... yuck.)

Read my edit. It's more of a problem with Nintendo. If you enjoyed the corresponding games, then it's likely you'll enjoy them on the Wii U.

Userbase has a huge difference and the 3DS userbase has shown it will buy Sonic games for sure.

Mewtwo would be a pretty neat contender if they made him into a morphing character with his two mega evolutions.

Like I said before, I just don't see them giving Mewtwo a total of three different movesets all to himself. What I see is more likely is that they may just end up splitting his Mega Evos so that they get into different games. One gets into Smash (likely Y), while the other, X, gets into Pokkén (which might be more pertinent if that game really stands to focus explicitly on fighting types).

As much as I would love Blaziken's resurgence in relevance (thanks to its new Mega form) to be a way to give G3 some representation, I just don't see it happening for Smash. Especially if, again, he'll stand to be posterboy material for Pokkén, which is a game that TPC would stand to have much more control over and is not contesting with other Nintendo franchises for space.

So I'm thinking:

Pokemon XY launch: Jigglypuff or Mewtwo reveal
Sonic Lost World launch: Sonic reveal
Link Between Worlds launch: Zelda reveal (not Sheik =( )
Donkey Kong Country launch: Diddy reveal

...

SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD LAUNCH: TOAD REVEAL YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

To be fair, Toon Link lends himself to being a clone more than say, Ganondorf. I hope they change Ganondorf a lot, and judging from what they've done to Bowser it seems like that will probably happen.

I just don't understand why they didn't overhaul his moveset for Brawl. Apparently he was rushed into Melee near the end of development... but what's the excuse for Brawl?

I feel like if they didn't do it then, they won't ever.

What about Pokemon Trainer?

Eventually.

I just think he's either going to be completely lame and give us Jiggs, which everyone knows is coming back and isn't an interesting reveal at all... or he'll throw us a fucking bone and give us Mewtwo, complete with new forms.

Yeah, I get the feeling that they didn't want to piss off Melee Dorf fans or something, despite the moveset not really repping the character that well. But I'm hoping since they're making some fairly big changes to Bowser that they've reevaluated Dorf's moveset.

He was also one of the worst tier-wise in Brawl so I hope they attempt to bring him up a few notches.
