Fighting Games Weekly | Sept 23-29 | Beauty and the Beast

You lost me. Getting familiar with situations takes time. But I would argue it takes even more time in a game where every character matchup is played differently.

Applying a "rule of thumb" when fighting isn't something unique to matchup based fighters. Every fighter has that, including KoF. It's just sometimes the character designs themselves are so opposing in their differences, it never gets to the point where the player can intervene with skill/uniqueness.
It rewards players' time investment in characters and matchup knowledge. It's why in SFxT, MvC3, KOF, there are a lot of broad similarities (boosts, chains, similar playstyles) between various characters- it's supposed to be easier to "try out" new ones. SF4 is intentionally prohibitive in many ways - links, matchups, etc - these things encourage you to stick to a few characters and learn only them.

The edmonton guy said "AH-KAMA." What the hell is that about? That's worse than people saying Gouki when it clearly says Akuma on the damn lifebar

Oh wait... I'm wrong.

If anything this encourages you to tier whore with the character with the least bad matchups, because you are condemned by your character choice.

Being able to consistently do Zangief's one frame green hand links isn't going to reward you when you have to do the walk of shame through a barrage of tiger shots.

Happy birthday Beckx "Mike Ross" Beckx

I don't know how to feel about this.

For those getting a PS4, what launch games are you guys getting?

Resogun. I'll download the free copy of DriveClub, too. Today I realized I am only buying a new console because I always buy a new console. Meh.

My wife got me a Saturn and a SNES today and I'm way more excited about my retro stuff than the new consoles.

I don't foresee purchasing a PS4 until it has a title I want to play.

I was thinking that Destiny would be the motivating force to buy one, but now I am not so sure, as it seems pretty unimpressive. So maybe GG Xrd or some indie game will be the what motivates a purchase.

Happy Birthday, Beckx!

My god, the sound on the EdmontonGamers stream is turrible, someone tell me they aren't the lead streamer for the event.

Kadey I'll take your PS4 off of your hands.

Will accompany it with a Sony avatar and clearly Sony biased posting habits as well to seal the deal!

Watch Dogs and The Order are the only launch games that interest me somewhat. But who knows if they will actually be good.

For me the games that i'm interested in at launch is

Killer Instinct
Crimson Dragon
Dead Rising 3
Power Star Golf

For PS4 is probably Resogun because it's free.

The Order isn't a launch game.

I want a next-gen Silent Hill by the former team. I want a next-gen Suikoden. Etc, etc, etc. This gen has been sub-par in releasing sequels to former PSX and PS2 goods.

I was thinking about what Bum said on his stream last night and what are some things you guys think the FGC can do to keep pot monsters coming to weeklies and majors? Attendance hasn't been good for anything since Evo so there's an issue here.

Could it also be the games they play are no longer fun. If your a primary Capcom player I can see someone getting tired of UMvC3 and AE. I expect more people to enter once USF4 comes out since it will be fresh.

If you're a TO that's kinda out of your control but I highly doubt that's the cause. Like sf4 blessed thr scene with a lot of new players but the dudes who's been top players since before are still at the top now. Hardly anyone new really cracked into the upper echelon. Like what can we do on our end to cultivate new players and groom them so that thy stay around and more new players feel like they have a shot?

Have stuff to do. The EVO/UFGT model.

Pot bonuses are zero help. they should put the pot bonus into things that pot monsters would appreciate, like events or things they can win.

Weeklies are rough because people don't have a lot of spare time and they're sort of miserable if you suck. Find ways to make it not suck for people who do suck.

It depends on how many setups there are, too. I went to a weekly that only had 5 machines for like 40 people. I got to play about 3 matches in as many hours. I'm not trying to criticize the weekly - they work with what they have. But blech to going out and spending an evening not doing what I want to do.

UMVC3 Capcom Cup should be:

Honzo Gonzo
Brian Kasugano
Marn
Senor Taxi
Mamespider
CJShowstopper
Deathwish
Mike Ross

With a special FT20 exhibition between Drew Grimey and Apologyman.

Guaranteed better tournament than what we'll get.
