3 Q&A Sessions with Filipino Champ & gootecks

I'm just waiting on UltraSF4, Yatagarasu AoC & Xrd, but am bout to get kof13 on steam since it seems to have playable netcode. SS should be hype as hell.

That's...a lot of money on bad choices.

Isn't this $63.54 in USD when you do the conversion?.

CND dollar trades on par or higher than USD (currently a couple cents below par).

smash 4 will be huge if it's better than brawl for the competitive scene. by then wii u will be $250 guaranteed, if not $199, so people will pick up the system to play smash.

I hope to live in a world where this happens.

Funny thing to think about: barring some massive change, not only will EVO 2014 be on current gen hardware, but maybe most of the games 2015 as well.

Or even older in some cases...

So, this is something that I have a huge investment in.

On the one hand, making the tournament a better experience for those that attend is a good thing, and a good use of money. For a good tournament, you can get exposure to 500-1000 people (or in the case of Evo, multiples of that) and you've made the experience better for all of them.

However, as a sponsor whose offering is strictly Internet-based (and can't be measured by say, promo code sales like Mad Catz and Avermedia), social media awareness and Internet buzz are very valuable to me and what I'm trying to do.

This isn't to say that I don't want to do what's best for the FGC, but it's difficult to find ways to get some return on the for what I've put out there (and I've never really sought return in any way until TFC where I was encouraged to) all these years. The Twitter poll for the bonus prize at TFC was a huge boon for me, and it was more than I expected in terms of raising brand awareness both for myself and for the event.

Input by the community is always appreciated on the matter of course.

The thing I'm trying to point out is that pot bonuses are useless for the 90% of tournament-goers who can't win a major.

It might be better to put that pot bonus money into things they can win.

One idea/suggestion: instead of making it a simple pot bonus, split it up into smaller chunks as a raffle, where 1 tourney match played= 1 ticket. That way even the lowliest of pot monsters has a chance to get something.

I believe that would do more to encourage entries, if that is the goal.

I dunno. $250 for a Wii U and Smash (assuming price crash)?

I think it'll depend on if the early adopters say it's good or not since people are also wanting to invest in a PS4 or XBone.

Smash is the biggest fighting game in the industry. SF boasts the biggest tournament scene, Tekken boasts the biggest lifetime sales but Smash is really bigger than both of them combined. It has more players and attracts more sales that other fighters wished they could. Don't think it'll have any problems as many people (myself included) will be buying a Wii U once it releases.

Not to mention it's coming out on 3DS too. Worldwide sales are gonna be ridiculous.

That's the thing, for me, that's not the goal, as I'm not running the tournament. Yes, I want to help the TOs make for a better experience at their tournament, but the audience that I'm hoping to appeal to extends way beyond the few hundred people at the tournament.

What universe do you live in where you can booze that hard for $63.54 cause I want in

Yeah, was going for emphasis there. Went a little OD on that.

Brooklyn (where most peeps drink PBR but I won't touch it because I'm not looking to try and gain cred through a perceived lack of resources).

Oh, and you should ask SweetJohnnyCage about when we go to Evo with the suites/clubbing. I tend to go a little off the hook, but it's worth it, we all have a blast.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. It is, in fact, off the chain though.

Even if early reports say it sucks?

And yes, I'm aware it's huge. It's got fanservice out the wazoo + Nintendo people need games to buy.

Doesn't mean non-diehards willl buy a Wii U just for it.

Lapchi certainly knows how to throw a good event, hopefully he didn't go too far into the red, if at all. I would like to see, and possibly attend, Canada Cups in the future.

That receipt is amazing!

TeamKhaos's stream was pretty good too, nary a hiccup besides the inevitable chat problems.

There is nothing Lap likes more than getting people drunk. I swear half the reason he puts on Canada Cup is for the party.

Guy's a doctor. I'm pretty sure he's making bank money

How the hell have Gootecks' business strategies gotten WORSE over time?

Like some of those are bullet points for the sake of being bullet points. I mean I understand the PDF transcript adding value but they're basically just selling Q&A sessions to monsters here.

No big rivalries, Arcsys games release dates in the USA are terrible, people are getting bored of the current meta, etc. It still boggles my mind that TRB/WNF still gets 40+ people for AE and Marvel. No idea on NLBC numbers. The local monthly in my city is staying solid with 18 people for AE and 20+ for Marvel. So there's nothing really going on in stream land but in locals, people are still going hard.
Burns real slow-like in my soul.
