But you've misrepresented the past of 3D Mario to come to that conclusion. You think Sunshine was some amazing new innovative experience but all it was was a bigger Mario 64 with less level variety, in some cases less complex levels, with worse mission goals, and a new power up that dumbed down platforming and added a tedious water spraying mechanic. Why was it okay when Sunshine was an upgraded Mario 64? Why isn't the cat suit some major revelation for you? The multiple characters with their own abilities?
I didn't misrepresent what you said, you just argue the semantics. You think this game is an uninspired me-too game. You were fine with Sunshine being a bigger Mario 64 with a new power up but a bigger 3D Land with a new power up is awful.
It is the fresh new Mario game, you just draw arbitrary exclusions.

Eh Nintendo is always like that. Just for pre-E3 Direct Nintendo said they will talk about games releasing this summer. People said the exact same thing you're saying now. Then they announced Sonic Lost World and Mario & Sonic at Sochi Olympics. This is just one example too.

Sunshine was by far the worst 3d mario game, so if you're trying to use that as the measuring stick for 3d world, that in itself is already a big problem.
The cat suit isn't impressive in the same way that the power ups in mario galaxy weren't, on their own, impressive.
I didn't look at mario galaxy and think "WOW, BEE MARIO? I NEED THAT".

I agree that Sunshine was awful. The only reason I'm using it is because Freezie thinks it was an example of the kind of Mario to get excited for. The reasons that Sunshine was awful are absent from 3D World, though, so I think I'm safe.

The last Direct gave us a AA vs Layton announcement as well as some other smaller ones. We got new footage of a lot of unreleased games and people were still disappointed.
This time will be no different, people get more excited about announcements than games that are coming out soon.

All I want in the form of new information/"announcements" is confirmation of the account system, Miiverse 3DS and as a hopeful dream, a system-wide achievement system (3DS and Wii U).
Nintendo doesn't have to announce any new games to make me happy, focusing on current releases is good enough. It's the hardware improvements I really want to hurry up and happen.

-Monster Hunter 4 localized and ported to WiiU, coming in March

I'm assuming at this point Nintendo marketing is working on a "Pre-Pokemon" and "Post-Pokemon" timeline. We'll probably hear more once that behemoth is released. This direct is just the first step to that.
Just show me some more Mario 3d world and I'm cool.

There's that and also that they've acknowledge our concerns for one. One poster above elaborated that they were having some trouble figuring things out. We're all sure it's coming, because it seems like a no-brainer, but we're just not sure when. People always bring up the account system whenever there's a Direct.
