Pacific Rim |OT| Apocalypse Never

I'm quoting this because I just watched the Pacific Rim Cinemax Final Cut interview with the entire cast (it's on Cinemax On Demand). Rinko said that Guillermo would actually sing the Totoro theme to her in Japanese to motivate her on the set. In this same interview she said she would think about chocolate and teddy bears to get her through the rough scenes (I think this has been mentioned in the thread before). She would also eat tons of chocolate on the set.

Oh, and she mentions how nervous she was during the audition for the Mako Mori character, so nervous that Del Toro took her out for ice cream. Damn you Del Toro.

OK, I was thinking of these today and found them, they are online for all to see, uncensored interviews with Del Toro and the cast together that aired on Cinemax:

Preordered!

I feel inadequate, I merely preordered the non-3D Bluray.

Can't wait! I occasionally play main theme and trailers still just to get my blood pumping.

The company that did the VFX for the prologue released a video about it. Close-ups of Tacit Ronin and Romeo Blue and an extended clip of the Romeo Blue/Hardship fight without the filter.

Hope they have a full Romeo Blue battle in the deleted scenes. Love the way that thing looks.

Also, info on what's included in the Blu-Ray/DVD release: http://www.pacificrim-movie.net/news/1172

So, this finally came out here. The WTF "Gipsy Danger is analog" line aside, this was one of the most fun films I've watched recently. I have absolutely no idea how this hasn't made a billion dollars.

Actually I do (it's the subject matter) but it sucks.

I seriously couldn't make up anything that was going on during that Romeo Blue fight.

Might impressive CG though, pretty amazing how much layers they're using.

It's small potatoes compared to the ILM work though in terms of complexity . ;)

We'd better be getting that UK Steelbook, WB! You can't just tease something like that!

I don't recall seeing all of these shots in the theater. Are these different angles or am I just forgetting something?

They all go by very quickly. I missed/didn't have enough time to process some of them on my first viewing. I think the ones you quoted may be different angles though.

Thought this deserved a mention as this might help it in the Academy Awards special effects category.

Hollywood Film Awards to Honor 'Monsters University' and 'Pacific Rim' (Exclusive)

Disney-Pixar's Monsters University will receive the Hollywood Animation Award and Warner Bros.' Pacific Rim will receive the Hollywood Visual Effects Award at the 17th annual Hollywood Film Awards -- the first awards show of the 2013 season -- on Oct. 21 at the Beverly Hilton, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The awards, which are presented annually "to an individual who has -- or individuals who have -- made outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry," will be collected by Monsters University director Dan Scanlon and producer Kori Rae and by Pacific Rim visual effects supervisor John Knoll, respectively.

Previous recipients of the animation prize include Ratatouille (2007), Wall-E (2008), Up (2009), Toy Story 3 (2010), Rango (2011) and Rise of the Guardians (2012), and previous recipients of the visual effects honor include Iron Man (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011) and The Avengers (2012).

The Hollywood Film Awards are determined by founder and executive director Carlos de Abreu and an advisory committee. Last month, the Hollywood Film Awards and Dick Clark Productions, which also produced the Golden Globe Awards, entered into a partnership that could lead to the ceremony being televised in future years. Over the past 10 years, Hollywood Film Awards honorees went on to garner a total of 96 Oscar nominations and 34 Oscars.

De Abreu tells THR, "The animation and storytelling of Monsters University reflects Pixar’s creativity and greatness, and John Knoll’s groundbreaking work on Pacific Rim sets a new standard in visual effects -- the robots and monsters in the film truly come to life."

I was planning to have a movie night to (re)watch Pacific Rim when the DVD came out in November, so consider me surprised that it comes out October.

Steelbook is up at Futureshop [Canada]:

http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/prod...spx?path=7a9a0144926e5adeed400ce13161190ben02

It doesn't say that the 3D disc is included, although it states that four-discs come with it so there's still hope [not that it matters to me anyway since I don't have a 3D HDTV].

The price is $39.99 but it will most definitely change. They usually do for pre-orders such as this and will likely settle in the $20-$30 area. It's basically just a place-holder at the moment.

Awesome! I'm seriously debating whether to get this beauty or splurging on the Collector's Edition...

I was debating getting the Collector's Edition as well but sided against it since:

1) I'm a massive fan of steelbooks
2) My room is already cluttered enough with collectibles and I really don't want to unnecessarily add to it >_<

What the FUCK, the Bluray is now dated for November 20th over here. I thought it came out in October? This sucks.

4 more hours till PR goes live on VuduOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

Hmmm? That's 2 weeks before the Blu-Ray!

Oblivion-esque deal of being early?

ALSO, The Trocadero in Philly is doing Pacific Rim for Movie Monday on October 13th! 3 bucks to get in! Movie starts at 8. GAF MUST GO

My IMAX experience with this movie motivated me to upgrade my home theater. I can't wait till I get the 3D Blu-ray to test it out.

This is an important question. My wife is out of town and I will be cancelling the apocalypse LOUD AS HELL if true.

Edit: Looks like Ultraviolet.

Hmm, I loved getting Django and Star Trek 2 weeks early on my Xbox. Wonder if there is any way to do this. Not sure I want to outright buy a digital version unless I plan to drag my AppleTV with me everywhere. Internet connection worries me too.

EDIT: Walmart says VUDU version, but nothing about getting it early.
