Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

So guys, what with P4G and EDF both on sale, I was wondering which I should get. Any recommendations? I generally like JRPGs, but I haven't played one since FFX (assuming the KH series doesn't count).

I have yet to play EDF, but honestly even if you remotely like jrpg's then I say P4 goddamn G all the way.

Both are fun. But p4g is the best rpg I've played in 7 years. I'd say p4g.

New month, new thread. Immediate subs.

Just have the time to play Soul Sacrifice recently, and it quite clicked for me. I'll probably just play the main story because I want to get the fullest from SS Delta next year :p
Also still no Trail in the Sky sale, it saddening :(

Eh, I have it on the PSP. It's... an alright game, I guess, but nothing terribly special *ducks from all the tomatoes thrown at me*

I also want to play Soul Sacrifice... but Diablo III sucked my soul dry in recent weeks :(

September was a good month, bought DJMAX Technika Tune (amazing game), Super Monkey Ball Banana Splitz (best portable version by far) and Sly 4 (on queue).

A toast to Vita's future

That's an actual photo of our engagement in NY

Now you're just showing off.... T________________T

Many people praise its character and storytelling. As a more story-guy than gameplay-guy, I want to see it myself if the praise is deserved or not.

Vita collecting dust then? :p
How about your first Vita? Sold to someone or kept as memento?

Maybe it picks up in the sequel, but nothing really happens in tits. It feels like a really long prologue rather than a fully fleshed out story arc tbh. An okay rpg, but really overrated here on Gaf imo.

I already played the crap out of FFT PSone around 10 years ago, so I'm mainly looking at WotL for more content and better postgame. Even then I'm still a bit sick of the game

Also, Trails in the Sky! So that's what I've been missing in my list. As with Ys I have no idea what the series is about but it's highly acclaimed and a JPRG, so on my radar it goes.

Yeah, the characters are nice. But the gameplay that surround it is, well, to be frank, not really that good and can be rather tedious at times.

Vita.... yeah, I haven't had any time to play it. Practically nearly all of my gaming time right now is consumed by Diablo 3.. with an occasional sprinkle of GTA V every now and then.

As for my 1st Vita, I am not comfortable selling it to anyone else considering I just don't know when it will misbehave again. It feels like.... I am tricking someone if I sell it while knowing that it has problems that may flare up again in the immediate future..... my conscious just can't take it.

Alright, thanks for the input, guys! Definitely going to grab Persona, then. It's been a while since I played a bona fide RPG, so this should be fun.

Grab tactics ogre if you are sick of fft. I love it.

A us son account is just 5 minutes away on your vita. It is inconvenient, but not THAT impossible, if there is a game you really want to play.

Only Japan has Powered Up on PSN.

Really? Damn.

If only I could read Japanese.

I'm not all that keen on managing dual accounts anyway, but the option will be there when the 64gb card arrives I suppose. I could always dust off the old PSP Go but I dunno how I would go trying to deal with that screen after using the Vita.

I'll ask again...

Was Akiba's Trip plus import friendly? I want to get Akiba's Trip 2 (game look fun and weird) but I wont do it if the first one was Japanese heavy or require known Japanese to enjoy it.

I hope there is at least an Asian translated version of the game. I want to punch people's clothes off.

I don't have it but a friend in my Vita club has it, and when I asked him if he can understand stuff in it since I know he's been learning Japanese, all he said to me is "Somewhat" and laugh.

So, I guess it's not really import friendly? That's how I take it anyways.

Spend $50, get $10.
EDF +P4G would put you at 34.98. $15 off of getting $10 back... so if there's anything else you might buy off PSN this month (whether new or something you've been waiting on for some reason or another), now is the time to buy both.

Is the vita version of EDF any good? I'm already buying P4G but I kinda want EDF too.

I hear it's good. It's why I bought it today. See my above post. Buy both.
If they patch Legends before the end of the month, I'll have just about $50 now between EDF and Rayman... also considering changing my Killzone to digital and Lone Survivor to take advantage of the 20% back.

P4G blows FFX out of the water. Then again, I think FFX is terribad. ;)
Seriously, I hadn't played a JRPG since FFXIII -- and this was a great experience. Get P4G... and get EDF too.

Grab tactics ogre if you are sick of fft. I love it.

If I could for the $4 someone linked the other day, I totally would. $20 is too much.

I never tried FFX. I will pick it up on cart for Vita when it comes out and give the franchise another crack. I guess it's kind of sad that my favourite game from FF is the TD spinoff Crystal Defenders.

Crystal Defenders isn't even that good of a TD game though.

Back then, the whole gaming world stops for a final fantasy announcement. It is sad what the franchise has become.

Experience, the developers behind Demon Gaze and Students of the Round, announced a new dungeon RPG for PlayStation Vita. Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss takes place in the same world as another one of their DRPGs, Labyrinth Cross Blood Infinity, which Cyberfront released for Vita.

Yen Oxiji will design playable characters for Tokyo New World Record and Tetsu Kurosawa is designing story characters. Players can create a team of six characters and venture into a dungeon.

Tokyo New World Record: Operation Abyss is slated for release on January 23, 2014 and Cyberfront will publish the game. Early buyers get a New EX Group Welcome Pack and fans that purchased Labyrinth Cross Blood Infinity will get a special item.

I enjoyed it around the time I played it. It was simple and fun to mess around with for 5-10 mins. Anyway, that just shows how much FF I have played I suppose :/

I remember. I didn't have a PS2 at the time. I did watch one of my friends play it, and I distinctly remember watching a 10 minute cut scene of some demon thing, that's about it though.

Glad to see Killzone Mercenary win game of the month, it really deserves the spotlight its so good. Anyone on the fence jump off and buy it, so good.

Did the store update yet? Im not sure if it did or not.

Yes. Die!Die!Die! Is the latest PSN addition for the week (Vita).

KZM deserves every accolade and honor - even - ones as simple as our GotM.

Which of the Ys games is best to play first: Oath, 7 or Chronicles? (I plan to get them all eventually but I just want to know where to start.)

Chronically, Chronicles goes before Oath, and Oath comes before 7.

However, mechanically, 7 is the soundest of them all.

So it depends on your preference.

Ys chronicles is very, very different from 7 (never tried Oath). Its very old school and the combat can feel weird at first. You bump your enemies to attack them, it looks like you're supposed to take damage but its how the game works. Id say go with 7, the new one coming out is closer to 7 than Oath and Chronicles.

FFX is arguably one of the best FF titles.

Anyone who owns a Vita should get one.

Even if they are getting it on the PS3.

7 is more of an RPG than Oath, in that if you have difficulty defeating an adversary, often times the best recourse of action is just level up a bunch and it'll work wonders. This applies to bosses as well.

Oath, not so much. You'll need to have a quick twitch-based reaction to survive against many of Oath's fiercest battles (the bosses, for example.) Can't really rely on "level-up" tactics.

7 is the best for those new to the series, since it's more balanced on everything. The first town could bore you and it lasts more or less an hour. Once you get out it's awesome.

Oath is a lot more hardcore. It has a lot more focus on the Action part of Action RPG.

Slightly off-topic, but a few representatives from Sony visited my school last week to do recruiting and internship-related stuff. I went to go check it out and apparently the way internships work is that you select the studio that you want to work at on the form based on what they're doing at the moment (you'd go to SSM if you wanted to GoW was the example).

Anyway, what makes this Vita related is that Bend was brought up as one of the studios at which interns could work. The PR lady said that Bend handles a lot of Sony's Vita output, which I thought was interesting, since the brunt of that has basically exclusively been U:GA.

I know it's basically anecdotal, but maybe this is some reasonable evidence that Bend is still working on that new Vita project. Here's hoping, at least.

Now if you wanted to really impress me or should I say us you should have taken the picture with your Vita ;)

Depends -- I have some hope for FFXV. I liked FFXIII better than FFXII and FFX... I have FFXIII-2 but haven't played it yet -- it's in my growing backlog with Ni No Kuni and several other PS3 games I never play. :lol

*Moving corrosivefrost from "Cool folks" column to "Not sure if he's cool anymore" column*

I'm not doing my job if I'm not making people constantly re-evaluate what they think they know... it's all about keeping you on your toes! :P

Ore no Shikabane wo Koete Yuke ... The original or PSP update. I don't mind playing the original for 600 yen, but that 4:3 ver. possibly comes with the cost of burn-in. I shouldn't have to consider stuff like this ...

Ah, ok thanks. Sounds like Ys 7 is the game for me then. Is exploration a big part of the game?

BTW, I own Ys Origins on Steam but I've only played a bit of it. Safe to say that its gameplay resembles that of Oath in Felghana?

Everyone should get EDF2017. I picked it up back when it was full price, not entirely sure what I was getting into, and it turned out to be one of the most fun games I've played in ages.

I'm still doing my Palewing run, and it's so awesome flying across half the map, raining down lazery death on giant ants and spiders. And that final mission, oh gosh. Sooooo good.

I think I bought it when it was $20, and it was a pleasant surprise. Only unlocked palewing last week, but I think I will take a break before I play it all over again with the palewing.

I prefer physical copies, but I'm tempted with all these sales... I still don't have a single vita cartridge, but all downloads.

To anyone who uses the Persona 4 Golden skin/screen protector:
How's it holding up? I need a screen protector before I ruin my Vita anymore with scratches. Was it hard to apply it?

I'm a screen protector noob but I think I need one ASAP.

Not really import friendly really. Lot of texts which is not spoken. Mission details are told through text. I will say if you cannot read japanese, don't get this. Maybe you should wait for the sequel instead?

Man EDF is tempting, but as a bit of a trophy whore man does that game look like it would take hundreds of hours... It was hard enough to complete once on the hardest difficulty on my 360.
