Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Did anyone ever tweet to Kojima about Snake? I was mind-bogging when I was thinking about how fans and reporters annoyed SEGA and workers about Sonic but no one did for Kojima and Snake.

GAFFERs and Lurkers, DO YOUR JOB. TWEET OR ASK KOJIMA ABOUT SNAKE.

yes, do this.

No offense, but these are pretty terrible. Resolution's awful, dialog is stilted and overwritten, humor isn't funny, et cetera.

Lol none taken, and I agree. Back then I got a kick out of them but now, they just seem like they're trying too hard. Ironically he hates them now. I thought I'd post cause maybe someone else might've thought they were funny.

Honestly, Mewtwo will probably Mega Evolve for its Final Smash and Jigglypuff might have some Fairy-inspired moves, but that will be it for X/Y representation. I've got a feeling Pokémon Trainer and Lucario's Final Smashes will be the same as in Brawl.

Multiple Mega Evolutions would be over-representing a single new mechanic, and it makes the most sense to go with Mega Mewtwo since that was the first one revealed (and the most prominent).

Yeah, you make a good point. The new one just announced would be so cool to see in the new smash though.

I really hope they are tweaking veterans a lot more than has been hinted at with toon link and sonic. Especially veterans like Jigglypuff who could have some really interesting additions to their moveset. Still holding out hope for toon link/link's side B moves being different and unique for each character along with unique a moves

What is it going to take for Ganondorf to get his own damn moveset? A heavy hitting Zelda type magic users with hints of Link's swordplay minus the extra throwing weapons would suit him. Anyone agree?

Yes. He needs a pretty big overhaul. At least they seem to be addressing character issues with Bowser and Samus, so hopefully they work on Dorf.

Samus?? What is Sakurai doing to Samus??? Source?

I don't think Ganondorf needs a sword. He didn't use one in Ocarina of Time, and the only reason he used one in Twilight Princess is because he stole it. It would be more in line with Ganon's general character to just keep him a heavy-hitting power character. Really, all he needs are new neutral, up, and down special moves and some new standard attack animations.

Well they can at least make him more magic based. I know he wields the Triforce of Power but he hasn't exactly been shown brute forcing his fights with Link....besides him being some type of sorcerer/warlock has always been in his description for most of his appearances. Its shocking that since Melee Sakurai constantly overlooks this. And its not like making him more magic based would hurt anything, since Zelda is pretty much the only magic user in the game. Hell if anything there's already too many brute force type/sword users.

Her charge shot has been buffed, so I take it as a good sign that they are listening to character feedback

I guess its a good start. I was hoping they'd give her a more streamlined fighting style. Power Suit Samus isn't exactly a floaty slouch. They could at least fix some of her animations and make her lighter but not as light as Zero Suit. Fix her dash animation and increase her drop speed to perhaps normal. I picture Power Suit Samus being a heavy hitting Zero Suit that is slightly heavier but not classified as being a heavy or middle weight character like Mario, perhaps a welter weight like Pikachu or something.

Now that Sonic is in, there is one important request that needs to be made.

I don't care is Shadow stays as his stupid assist trophy, even though Shadow sucks. But a Tails assist trophy would be the most badass, awesome, and obvious thing ever. If you get Tails, he follows you around. If you fall off the bottom of the stage, he flies down, grabs you, and brings you back up. Ta-da. Best Assist Trophy Ever.

Sakurai really seems to like unique fighters/fighting styles (or so he says in interviews, clones say otherwise) oh all the veterans needing an overhaul that could be unique it is Ganondorf!

They could choose old school ganondorf wielding a trident which would be a weapon requiring a unique style (and it would finally be something different than a sword or hammer)

Or just bringing in ww Ganondorf with double swords which would also make for a unique fighting style (although we have seen hints of what it would look like when link wields a lightsaber/light sword item)

Or as others have suggested, make him a magic user like zelda. Give him a projectile, (like an energy ball) an area effect move, keep the choke/choke slam because that move is Bad Ass, and some energy based recovery.

Come on, give the dark lord his due day. He holds the triforce of power for crying out loud!

Wow this is the most obvious and best idea for an assist trophy yet. I am honestly going to be disappointed if this game releases without this now. Thanks a lot

I'd really like to see some more representation for other franchises that have just one character. My wish list that I posted earlier in the thread reflect this, although they are just my opinions. Perhaps a protag and antag at least. Mario series has like 3-4 characters so why can't Captain Falcon have someone like Black Shadow or Sonic have Knuckles with him? Even if they aren't initially available on the disc then at least DLC. I just want to see some effort at franchise balance, sheesh.

I've been saying this forever but Ganondorf should get a totally new move set and his old moves should be given to Black Shadow.

Either him or Blood Falcon, since the latter would make absolute sense, with him being a clone of Captain Falcon anyways. The more I brainstorm about what I'd like to see, the more hopeless I get that my expectations are gonna be for naught. It was the same way with Brawl....I was soooo looking forward to no more clones, and more franchise reps....both hopes dashed against the wall. Nevertheless Smash U will still be pretty good it seems.

I'm bein' selfish but all I really want is for Ike to return. Kind of sucks because I feel like he's one of the characters who is more likely to get dropped. I always felt like a little improvement would make him great, and I think a few of the Brawl+/Project M versions of him proved that.

Oh well, that's my only real dream for returning characters.

I hope Snake doesn't make a return. I really found him out-of-place, both aesthetically and conceptually (really, his Ninty originals were just Twin Snakes [kinda] and that Gameboy game?). His moveset was neat, I suppose, but I don't think I ever found it especially fluid. Clunky, certainly. And now without Hayter, with new-voice 24 Snake (or Boss or whomever) having zero representation on a Nintendo platform... I'd just rather they give an explosives-oriented, neutral-rather-than-smash moveset to someone else. Or maybe no one else. I just think that Mega Man looks a lot more appropriate than Snake ever did.

I liked Snake being in BECAUSE he didn't fit in. He's basically the straight man in a game full of talking animals and super-powered plumbers, trying to make sense of what the hell is going on. He also brings his own goofiness to the table as only Snake can do.

I'm not against any veteran returning for smash, snake was already in brawl, he doesnt have to leave for smash 4

Well that's appropriate for Snake, who is mostly the straightman in his own games.

Though I have to question the appropriateness of him at this point. Mega Man has history on Nintendo platforms right up until his death, Sonic is a huge part of Nintendo history on both sides of it, Snake....has been a major player in two games on Nintendo platforms in the last decade and one of them was Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the other one wasn't even Solid Snake.

If they brought Snake in again, I imagine it would be because he was in Brawl, not because he's a particularly glowing part of Nintendo history, past or present.

Three, actually. Twin Snakes (2004), Brawl (2008) and MGS3D (2012).

Eh, I don't know why anyone would be directly against someone returning. Everyone should be able to have their fun. Although saying it about third party characters is more understandable than saying it about others.

Hello GAF btw.

2004 is pushing a decade though. The only recent release was the 3DS port which was Big Boss.

I wouldn't mind his return but I wouldn't be heartbroken if he left. Just kinda apathetic about Snake.

I don't think Snake's coming back. Kiefer Sutherland won't do Smash and I think Metal Gear is becoming too Hollywood to warrant a chance in Smash again.

What of Big Boss you say? Well, from the sounds of it....Hayter got fired. I don't think they could get Snake and have him still be Hayter. Snake is long gone.

well the recent one was only like 2 years ago, and it might not even have been that long

Hello GAF btw.

My thoughts exactly! It would be a totally waste to not reincorporate a character, even if there were an odd 3rd party one.
Especially if they had a unique moveset! If Snake were to disappear I hope they introduce a newbie that had a similar moveset to him.

Hello!

It was also a port of a game from 2004 though, though MGS3 stuff in SSB could be cool.

At this point they might as well use Big Boss because Kojima has a love obsession with him.

It's been said many times on this topic but an Advanced Wars character as a replacement for Snake could work.

It was more of a remake, a really bad remake, but a remake.

I would be okay with this. Snake fit right in in Smash. And what better Nintendo Platform history there is if you have already appeared in a Smash Crossover?

I like the idea of each major Japanese publisher getting a representative, and Snake is undoubtedly Konami's most popular character. Combined with the fact that he's a Smash Bros. veteran (regardless of his "Nintendo relevancy"), he really shouldn't go anywhere. He's also an extremely unique character.

Maybe Big Boss then, for MGSV? I know it's not coming to Wii U, but that didn't seem to bug Nintendo when Brawl came out close to MGS4. They even composed a remix of MGS4s Love theme which I don't believe is in any other Metal Gear game

Welcome to SmashGAF! Prepare to be ridiculed for character preferences and be attacked when you make jokes!

But seriously, welcome to the OT. :)

So you mean that the way to properly represent him is by leaving him as a clone of Captain Falcon who not only is a race car driver in his game, but that has an entire moveset 100% pulled out of his ass for this one? That's what Ganondorf means to you?

They might have put that theme on the ipod in MGS4 even, IIRC

MGSV/Big Boss could be cool but I'm not a big fan of Kiefer's VO so far. It would be hilarious if they used Hayter but had MGSV stuff.
