Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

too many breaks between action

that high school dating sim shit makes me wanna puke

sorry vitabros
This thread seems to become the OT every once in a while, so I have to check out. Yeah, it's about time we had some Persona hate going on!

EDIT: Top of the page! Don't buy Persona, if you haven't already buy Velocity Ultra and get hype for 2X!

i can't remember spending time with a JRPG and not being disappointed

P3P is garbage anyway, and do worth it even for free, if it got free in PS+ people need to avoid it and save their bandwidth.

Good lord, Toto. What did P3P ever do you to you?

P3P us a good game to okay if you don't have a PS2/3 to play the full experience of P3 Fes. Plus, Girl's Side is fun.

Hopefully Falcom stick with the Vita for a while. God only knows how Vita need those small success developers cases.

Unless Vita gets discontinued soon I can't see why they would stop.

yeah, why can't we get the bizarre japanese games in the west anymore, I miss the PS1/2 era {:(

If it got localized during the PS1/PS2 era it would be EU only as there's no way Akiba's Trip passes through SCEA.

Is Lego Marvel gonna be another up-res from 3DS?

The DS, 3DS, and Vita versions all have a subtitle called "Universe in Peril" implying it's not the same as the console release.

Not all games are for everyone, but P4G is one of the few ones that is widely praised even by people not into the genre. Still, you have all the right not to like it.

For anyone else even slightly interested in jrpgs, japanese school life or even anime, I'd say it is a must-buy, even more so at $20.

I wouldn't go as far as Toto, but I have to say that I will only be completely happy with P3 when I get a remake a la P4G with all the extra content and more. Hopefully the release of the first P3 movie is the sign of something like that.

And man, Atlus, you had to post a freaking 2-MONTH countdown?

I sold my Vita in April 2012 but decided to do a list of all the Vita/PSP/PSX titles I have in my download list and came up with this (Bold = titles I own, the rest are PS+)

When I looked at this list, I went straight to ebay and bought a Vita and a 16GB memory card. I cannot wait for it to turn up now. Gonna start compiling a list of PSP and Vita titles I wanna grab, but Batman: Arkham Origins is definitely one that I think i'll be getting. Any impressions out there?

I reached the second half of Uncharted Golden Abyss
where you partner up with Chase and go find her grandfather
and I don't hate it anymore. Still some bullshit portions from time to time but all in all it's somewhat improving. Feels like I got more freedom during fights and there's more climbing and light exploration. Chemistry between Drake and Chase is also improving. Still not BEST GAME EVA but it doesn't feel like work anymore.

Also, I really want Afrika on Vita now.

That's a really interesting Ad for NeoGAF lol

Get Castlevania Symphony of the Night (PS1).

It is the best game ever. No really. I´ve read that many times before myself and I thought ´yeah, yeah, but not for me probably´ because Castlevania isn´t really my genre.

Then I picked it up because I had some PSN credits left and WOW! totally addicted to the game instantly!

The gameplay!
The freakin´ incredible music!

Still the best game I´ve played on my Vita.

Is the PSP version (Dracula X Chronicles) a good substitute for the PSone version?

Yeah, SotN is pretty damn good. If you can get it digitally in your region though, Dracula X Chronicles has SotN in the game as a hidden unlockable (which is fairly easy to find).

Doesn't the PSP Dracula X Chronicles have the game with proper translation and Norio Wakamoto as Dracula?

Tried a little of EDF, man the other soldiers yelling is hilarious and just killing these bugs with the Assault rifle running around like I don't give a fuck is too much XD.

something fishy, dude serious get it it's $14.99 on US PSN atm, your kid'll prob. like it since it's a shooter game where he's SAVING THE WORLD WITH ROCKET LAUNCHERS, BAZOOKAS, ACID GUNS, FLAME THROWERS & GENOCIDE GUN! A GENOCIDE GUN!

Just bought a 32GB card from Best Buy. I'm excited to get it. That will make me have 76GB storage in memory cards, but I wish that was on one card. :( Hate switching cards.

The new stand for the 2000 showed up on Amazon JP... So confused by people who don't like the new design of the Vita. Think I need to add this to my order.

Looks really nice in that picture, but then I see other pictures and more importantly pictures of it in real life and I hate the cheap looking plastic surrounding the buttons and sticks, and how the screen is surrounded by a very visible border that makes it look like it's a tablet with a controller add-on.

I do really like how the sides and back of the new one look, though.

Wow, looks pretty great in that picture. If only it didn't have that god-awful bezel for the screen. I don't even care about the screen itself -- the LCD seems to be almost up-to-par, if not equal-to, the OLED -- but god, fuck that bezel.

Been having a blast lately with my Vita. Dragon's crown has become fun all over again with a few friends getting it recently. Wish we had something other than NG for action games.

I like the new PS Vita design and I'll definitely purchase one in the near future!

However, I dislikes the new dock/stand. The dock for PS Vita 1000 seems more practical, it's not great but things like you can place your Vita on the bed without it falling is win for me.

But the original dock is very lightweight who knows if this one has more weight on it to keep it stable

The original one also looked better. I love the dock. It's really nice to have.

now if you buy Gurumin: A Monstrous Adventure you'll join VitaGAF Plus & Gold VIP club.

I'll buy it if it ever hits $10 or less.
If you join the Secret Santa (should it happen again) you can gift me it. :P

I saw that P4G is onsale on PSN this week for 20 bucks. I've played a persona game, but I love a good RPG.

Should I jump on this price or wait and see if it is put in the IGC on PS+ next month?

P4G in IGC? You crazy.
Buy it for $20 and don't look back.

Yeah, I had that fear too. But I heard people adverse to that sort of stuff ended up liking it in the case of Persona. I gave it a try and found myself part of that number.

It's definitely not "dating sim shit" and you can ignore it if you don't really want to do all of it and still enjoy the story/game.

Is the PSP version (Dracula X Chronicles) a good substitute for the PSone version?

Yes, it's fine. It's got changes to voice acting and a few minor things to make note of, like playable Maria and whatnot. You have to delve into Dracula X to unlock SotN, but it can be done relatively quickly if you grab a youtube vid as a guide. I wouldn't recommend looking at Dracula X as a chore to power through with spoilers, though.

SotN is my favorite game of all time, so if anybody would be overly-critical about differences between SotN versions (ex: the way people get hyperbolic about which version of Final Fantasy 6 people are allowed to enjoy), it would be me. I'm not though, so that should tell you that it's perfectly fine.

I have the utmost nostalgia for the original's voice track and untouched state, but neither is better or worse, and the only thing to really consider is that SotN on PS1 is a smaller filesize than Dracula X Chronicles... but Dracula X and the unlockable Rondo of Blood are fine game to have.

Also worth noting, I think, that the Dracula X version is PSP so you can't change the screen ratio at all. You're stuck with the 4x scaled PSP ratio as is. I think that was the dealbreaker for me and I decided I'd go back to the PSOne version if I wanted to play it again.

What versions of FF6 are people not allowed to enjoy?
I generally think that game is overrated, but was not aware of any versions that were deemed atrocities unto gamers (unless you count the PSOne port with the horrible load times between random battles).

Ah good point, there are the borders to contend with. I never stretch my PS1 games, but I prefer black boxes around the screen to various preset templates. Not a dealbreaker for me, personally, but sometimes I want just SotN all by itself. I will when we have 64GB and no 100 app limit.

Also, I wish the PS1 emulation would save the screen ratios I pick.

One of my other favorite games. No versions are offlimits to me. Even the original cart had it's translation problems and the Vanish+X-zone/Death gamebreaker... and the extra stuff in the GBA version could be construed as tacked on and disruptive to a purist experience (think what George Lucas did to all the different Star Wars releases). The loadtimes between battles and menus in the PS1 version are trivial, once you settle into a groove, and the hate is hyperbole + "i liked it before it was cool" stuff to me. People act like it's Blood Omen or something. Around 2007 I was playing through the Chrono Trigger again and was having such a great time revisiting it. The pauses had no negative impact for me whatsoever, even though that game excelled at being seamless by design. The differences between versions just makes for good conversation.

Someone please link me to Shahid's twitter account so I can pester him to get Gunlord on Vita because I NEED THIS IN MY LIFE!
https://twitter.com/shahidkamal

Unfortunately I seem to recall the devs being pretty unreceptive to fans suggesting PlayStation platforms, and more set on getting the game on Nintendo's. This was before their crowdfunding campaign failed though, maybe they would reconsider now if Shahid hooked them up with some funding (he keeps saying he wants Turrican on the Vita after all).

The Shovel Knight devs were like that in regards to Sony platforms too. They got downright shitty about it in some of their final funding livestreams. I wish I'd never backed that game.

I tend to stretch my games and I believe it saved the ratios for me. I'm pretty sure it did when I played through Alundra and Klonoa and Wild Arms at least.

The SNES version of FF6 was broken as hell. I ended up (1) finding a way to get stuck back in the opening town which made me start over 6 hours into it, I had multiple glitches after doing wonky shit with draw and capture with Relm and Gau. I had to return the game and ask for a new copy.

As for the pauses? I wanted to go back to play it but the pauses killed it for me... granted, I played on PS2, so I'm not sure if the emulation there was somehow worse than on PSOne, but I stopped playing before I got Edgar as I just couldn't deal with the pauses. They were so bad to me, in those collections, that when I tried to play Chrono Trigger, I started avoiding enemies so that it wouldn't stutter and force me to wait to enter battle.

To me, it is though. I played the entirety of that game several times over back in middle school... I loved it back then... but something always felt off. It felt to easy to find everything and make it through everything... the only thing that was a bit of an annoyance was the Ultima tower and even that wasn't too bad. A lot of people tend to rank it as the best. I don't consider it up there, so to me, it's overrated. It's not even the best FF game on the SNES, IMO. That said, I still have fond memories of it and it has a lot of great moments. I just tend to like other Final Fantasy games much better and don't agree with the pedestal that a lot of the Internet seems to place FF6 upon.

Say, when will the PS+ instant game collection is gonna be updated? I am waiting to download Sine Mora but now it's already October 3rd and it is still not updated yet?? (still Rayman Origins bla bla bla)

Origins only became available on the 24th despite being announced early. So if the trend continues then they'll trickle feed Amalur, SotC, Hotline Miami, and Sine Mora for the next 4 weeks.

Ah I see. Maybe I should realize that other people have opinions, but then again what can I get angry at?

IMO, most overrated is VII. People should be praising VIII instead.

Man, you've been here awhile - I figured you would know how this works by now, haha. One game (occasionally two) gets added to the Instant Game Collection every week. The first two weeks of the month are always PS3 games, and the last two weeks are always Vita games.

I played through it like 50 times as a kid and tbh I never found out about any of that stuff til the last few years or so. You've gotta go out of your way to really break it and I actually think stuff like that is cool. Same reason I like being able to get out of the castle walls in Symphony of the Night.

I used to be at the library as a teenager writing down Game Genie & Game Shark codes to do crazy stuff in games like that. Tactics had some of the best.
