Same here. I dont understand why they shove first gen starters down our throats.
You can't really see the base of the tongue because it's completely wrapped around Greninja's mouth and neck. I'm guessing Greninja might have an animation that briefly has it extend its tongue or loosen it so that you can see the connection point.
...It's a frilled lizard. Those weren't ears on Helioptile, they were a frill.

I love Chespin, no questions asked. Qualladin gained a little weight, but I still stuck by his side. But Chesnaught... oh God, what did Game Freak do to you, you poor little (big) bastard...
To be honest, it's not the design that's really bothering me, that part is actually ok. It's the COLOR SCHEME!. He goes from almost entirely green/brown, with hints of red on his quills to almost ENTIRELY WHITE with odd bits of green and brown thrown in. It's almost like they didn't even bother to look at what the previous evolution looked like. The color scheme just kills the evolution completely, had they done the colors right it could have been a pretty awesome looking final evolution.
That said, I'll still be going with Chespin as my starter. As awful as his final form looks, I always stick by starter, through thick and horrible final evolutions =|

Gen 5 had some of the best use of color and appropriate design in the series. Volcarona, Garbodor, Accelgor, Bouffalant, Durant, etc, every part of their design fits. There is none of the bloat that characterized the 4th generation, and there is a large variety of colors. There is also a lot more creativity in designs than most generations, with stuff like carybid beetles stealing snail shells, bearded dragons using their shed skin as pants, and dividing blastocysts. The only places where Gen 5 really suffered were the legendaries and starters, but that's why I just boxed my starter and grabbed a better Pokemon.

Overall they're not the best, nor are they the worst. Blaziken is still worse than Delphox, which is easily the worst of the bunch, Feraligatr and Venusaur are still hideous beasts that none of these are even close to, and Infernape is still best.

Genesect getting a mega evo would also be amazing, imo. It hints at it in the game supposedly. There's a guy in the fossil place asking if you have a Genesect or something like that, that's what the /vp/ leaker said atleast.
If they can't get the regular color scheme right, I'm terrified to see what his shiny will look like. Not to mention, I have this obsession-compulsive thing about using the starter I picked ALL the way through (Yeah, I know it's not a real thing, but I like to think I'm forming some kind of bond with my first Pokemon in each new region). Because of that, even if his shiny looks great, I can't use it anyways since I'll have picked a shiny-less Chespin at the beginning. =|
Oh well, I guess I don't have to evolve him. He might be a bit weaker, but at least he'll still have his dignity.
