I don't hate FATE grinding (the down time is great for when I am studying), but I would love an alternative. Some areas are just awful FATE wise (Quarrymill and Coerthas are the worst imo) and having another option (even if it is still just grinding) would be nice. Wonder if I could find a group on my sch so I don't have to do Coerthas FATEs...

Come fate grind Quarrymill with me~

As I said above I just got miner to level 50. I feel like I need to start leveling botany now. I feel like I have to, to level a craft with any kind of efficiency and not just be shelling out gil. This is from just taking a look at recipes for items. My only high craft is blacksmith at 37 or 38.

I think I'm on lvl 42 on my botanist right now, which I leveled to get my carpenter to 50. I feel the exact same way about going out and getting it myself instead of spending gil. I'd like to get one of the "smith" classes to 50 also, or armorer.

Still not sure if I should feel doomed about ever getting past AF gear and start sticking to being an FC crafter/gatherer or what lol...but I'm pretty close to just doing that.

If you want to be a completist and make all the recipes, you either shell out a lot of gil or have every other profession leveled together in lock-step. You can't just gather the things you need in many cases, you also have to make the recipe.

Cool, thanks. So using it as often as possible would also mitigate some of the damage I'm taking due to the interrupt, and I can use Shield Bash to interrupt if I'm not sure what's coming.

It seems like a really good skill where I am (~35). Does tons of damage for a PLD, kicks in fairly often when using a shield with a high block rate, and the damage translates into aggro as well. Why don't people mention it more often at max level?

The issue with Shield Swipe is that while it most certainly ups your DPS, it also has the unfortunate caveat of generating no extra enmity while being on the GCD. What this means is that for the extra damage boost you're sacrificing 2.5 seconds of enmity gain. This may not seem like much of an issue where you are now but in the later battles, the heals become more potent and the dps get much stronger, being able to close the gap between themselves and the tank (you) fairly quickly.

That doesn't mean Shield Swipe is useless though, in long fights (like Titan HM, for example) where you'll pretty much be unloading on the same target for an extended period, you can feel free to toss a few in here and there for the damage boost. In addition, Shield Swipe works as a wonderful way to recoup lost TP during long battles of attrition, due to its wonderfully low cost of 40 TP.

Basically, it's a good move that every PLD should keep in mind for the situations in which it shines, but don't get too crazy with it.

Oh I know, that's what I meant. If I want to do the triple level 35 blacksmith leve I think it was I need materials from botany and mining, making some items that with professions I don't have leveled and then make the item I need for the leve. Just annoying lol

Triple leves are listed in this page. It also has some DoL evaluation leve information.

I know, that's where I got my information, I wanted a source where they were all listed like I did it though. Just all the triples.

Cool. One suggestion is to list the possible item reward from the leve as well. Since I only accepted leves when they would reward ores/ashes/webs/skins/etc.

Pretty much so long as you aren't hurting in enmity, you can shield swipe to your heart's content. It does gain enmity, but nowhere near as much as your regular rotation. Just keep that in mind and an eye on your hate and you'll be fine.

There's a lvl 25 Carpenter triple leve in Gridania where you can turn in 5 walnut lumbers. I think it's called Armoires of the Rich and Famous. Gives you about 11K XP per leve. You get 100K XP if you turn in 15 HQs lumbers and about 4500+ gil total. That's pretty much how I lvl'd my Carpenter to 50 pretty fast. I'm at work otherwise I'd give more specifics on it.

This is great to know! thx for sharing

The Walnut Macuahuitl one at 35 is also really good imo, as long as you can HQ them easily. It's just a walnut lumber and 2 Wyvern Obsidian, which on my server at least are like 2-3 gil each and is 180k ish xp for a 9 HQ turn in.

I'm creating this and will update it w/ more links:
Triple Leves

This list already posted above has an option to toggle Triples Only, and filter any or all disciplines. It is amazing ^_^

Nice thx, so there are some good tricks it seems.

I know I'm pretty late on this, but I sort of ignored Bahamut's Coil and the gear up process as I'm not even sure which job class I like enough to go through gearing up grind. Well, come to find out the place is a major storyline dungeon.

My hand may have been forced. =( lol

Does anyone here love it when the gil bots sell "10,800K" gil?

I always have a hearty laugh whenever I see that (which is actually, quite a lot)

Also, speaking of Gil, i just hit 20 with my main, but have a few other classes around the 10 area, so it costs a lot of money to keep my equipment specced. What's the easiest way to make money that early in the game

Gearing up shouldn't be too bad tbh. A bit easier if you're on a tank or healer class because of faster access to runs but you should just do it little by little, really.

Cool, thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

The Vanya gear is not for Crafters, unless the Armorer makes them and I don't have that at high enough level to check. The Weaver Created Vanya gear would most likely not convert to a "Craftsman Materia"

Does anyone have a reliable system to craft HQ 50* Mats like Hippogryph Leather? From what I've been watching it looks like a Steady Hand II, the 0 CP Touch command and Manipulation to replenish Durability, but even at that it's 80% chance with Steady Hand II.
Do you have Byregot's Blessing for that strat?
else, do the 10-step one and have volume make up: (With good gear, AND good food, you can get 80% staple)

Inner Quiet
Great Strides
Ingenuity
Innovation
Advanced Touch

It's not 100%, but it's damn quick.

The Steady Hands II + Hasty Touch method seems to be the more economical way of using CP, and more reliable way of getting HQs. The method does take longer. As for whether you use Manipulation or Waste Not or Master's Mend 1/2 for durability, it depends on whether you expect to be using up an upcoming turn to refresh Steady Hands II or using Tricks of the Trade on a Good for CP. Advanced Touch if you ever encounter an Excellent. Always aim to max out Quality first, then use Rumination to clear Inner Quiet and use the CP gained to help with finishing up Progress.

I got most of the theorycrafting data from this reddit link:

That's the guide I've been using as well. It's pretty spot on and I've been HQing like crazy thanks to it.

played a couple hours last night and now i'm feeling the itch....but other responsibilities come first. Dammit all!

I feel your pain, been on for about an hour total all week :(

At least Tomo will be hanging on to her stylish Satasha gear for a little while longer. Screw your AF +32 or relic whatever, I look like a goddamned admiral!

I haven't been on much the past few days because I've been really busy, so I still need like 6 AK runs before I can get it. I'm sorry, I'm still a loser. :(

Well since i still need a ton of ak's and prae's i guess I'll let your slacking slide.....this time

unless i get drug off to coil, then you'll just have to fend for yourself

The bosses in fates should drop more than just EXP and seals. I just did a dragon one in the snowy area. Seems like 20 or more where here.

the escort escort quest isn't anything original or super exp, i just found the whole quest setup hilarious.

They really should find a more effective way of explaining the FATE out instead of dumping a paragraph on your quest log, which at times is hard to parse out what i'm even suppose to do for this FATE.

luckily most are just kill shit, or escort dude, or kill shit for stuff to give to dude.

The RNG gods smiled upon me as I crafted my first vanya piece.

I'm hoping tomorrow I'll be worthy of your presence. :(

Don't do it! Coil is a dark, evil place!
with awesome music

I am very happy you went with McNuggies purple again.

There's one in Costa Del Sol around that level I believe (Cancer), the other two I know of anyways are in Coerthas (40ish?) and Northern Thanalan (48 or 49 I think)

Yeah, I died trying to do a fate here in the snowy area, lol. They looked like dragon type humanoids. Level 48 or so. I shouldn't be wandering around here. :P

There's also a couple of FATEs you can buy minions once they're over. I think if you get gold on Highbridge, you can buy the baby rat. Then there is the hive one and the Poor Maiden's Mill or whatever one. The minions aren't based on the FATEs, but the npcs are around depending on FATE status.

edit- I just realized you're only talking about ones that actually drop them for free. lol Oops.
