The new lighting engine (and lighting engines used by a lot of modern games) don't support that type of AA, which is why things like MLAA and FXAA were invented to begin with. I agree with you that FXAA sucks, though, and I wouldn't mind an alternative. I know someone in this thread managed to get a different type of AA going, but I can't find the post.

I see.

Yeah, all I really need them to do really is them give us the choice to scale the UI like it automatically does with higher resolutions so I can downsample since most AA methods don't work. Unfortunately, SGSSAA is quite blurry from my testing.

Apparently people who were banned for having too much gil and found innocent are being unbanned with 1% of whatever they had before. Just feels like spite at that point.

It's not spite at all. There was a bug that allowed for infinite gil to be exploited from this summer bomb ash event. They needed to remove that gil.

Managed to clear Cutter's Cry without too much trouble. I was praying for no random lag spikes the entire time during the first boss fight since I was kiting its giant mob of death.

Anyone Lancers or Monks here on Ultros want to help me get Coliseum Shawl and Loincloth from Dzemael Darkhold? I don't really have much to give in return, other than some weird lv. 50 drop from some Empire dudes in Gridania that I can't even use cause I'm not level 50.

EDIT: Oh and Bards too. Any DPS that isn't a Discipline of Magic so I don't have to worry about getting out needed in a dungeon.

AH Economy was distorted by gilsellers that hacked, exploited and introduced mass amounts of gil that wouldn't otherwise be there in the economy.

Those that engaged in the AH through crafting 'benefited' from this extra gil in the economy, with highly inflated gil prices.

Which in itself isn't a huge deal... except that end game content includes housing paid for with gil... and that doesn't work as intended when there's too much gil in the economy!

This is necessary corrective action.

So the crafters, who's only "crime" was to put stuff up for sale on the in-game auction house, with no way to control who bought it are being punished because it was bought with RMT money. It seems ridiculously over the top.

While I agree that its over the top, any crafter smart enough to be making a ton of gil on non-legacy servers has to know that its coming from RMT. Remember all that noise about how there wouldn't be enough gil coming in from players for a good economy? But all of a sudden there is a SHITTON of gil out of nowhere? Come on now...

Yay. First run through Brayflox and we do it. The last boss was an ass though. He sure does love poison. I died, but we had an awesome healer that healed the tank and somehow brought me back to life. The gear really looks good in this place. I had to do some dying to get it to match. I feel sorry for the other archer, I won most of the need rolls which was odd. I never do usually. I got a chest, ring and helm. I'm coming for you Titan!

I don't think you understand. It isn't just RMT.
There was an infinite gil generation method...

The crafters still have more gil than anybody else, the economy just isn't artificially inflated.

Housing will likely be a dynamic market, and with loads of gil generated through a hack and distributed to a small number of people via the marketboards would royally screw 99% of the people out of housing since the crafters could and would corner the housing market.

The bug got fixed and the gil needed to be removed. If you can't see the reasoning for this, I feel sorry for you.

Guess its seal grind time. Best place for level 35? Need to start getting some chocobo armor.

35 is an awkward place between Costa-Del-Sol and Coerthas. Personally, I would stick with Costa-Del-Sol until around 36-37 and then do Coerthas until 41. Then off to Northern Thanalan.

I'm leveling botanist a bit, and I see people dropping from the sky or moving underground and I'm left wondering, how can it be so easy to cheat?
I want to report them but delving into menus to do so actually discourages me.

Thanks guys! I wonder if I can beat the main story before my free time is over. I still have 36 days left. I probably will sub. The game is addicting, and has me playing it more than WoW. The population is better, the players are friendlier(so far) and the game looks beautiful.

Are you saying I should assume SE will remove features for inferior ones? Confused by your question.
They didn't remove a feature so much as they replaced then old engine with a new one, and it didn't make sense to include that feature in the new engine based on the technology used.

Getting tired of FXAA. Downsampling can't be done due to the lack of UI resizing options. Even if you use the third option or blow up the text, it's still not big enough for downsample. FFXIV 1.0 had MSAA which baffles me why it only has FXAA now.

FFXIV 1.0 uses a fundamentally different game client engine than ARR.

MSAA is a deprecated AA method. Starting with DX10, MSAA cannot properly anti-alias certain post-processing effects used by deferred rendering. For anyone who cares, starting with DX11 even SSAA will not work properly anymore.

The upcoming new PC client which should be released around when the PS4 version is launching will be a DX11 client. For this reason, it's safe to presume that Squenix did not include anything but FXAA because if the option for MSAA/SSAA was in now and was removed in the DX11 client people would scream bloody murder without understanding why.

Learn to love your FXAA overlords.

From everything we've heard about housing, me having more money than you (even illegitimate money, though I am not defending people who abused the glitch--SE is right to remove that money) means absolutely nothing in regards to you getting a house of your own. Housing is not crafted nor is land actually limited--they will be to-NPC purchases that drain money from circulation. The only time it might matter is if someone buys a specific plot of land you wanted and then sells you the deed for more than they paid for it but this will not be widely abused because when one housing instance sells out, another is created with the exact same property layout; they are intentionally designing it so land sharks cannot control/ruin the whole system for others on a large scale. What they've said will be dynamic about the prices is based on time and population IIRC, not scaled to the amount of gil on the server.

I don't like FXAA either. All it really does is blurs the image. I couldn't force anything in my CCC or use a 3rd party program. I hope the DirectX 11 client fixes that.

I will never learn to love or even like FXAA. I actually play with FXAA off since I'd rather have jaggies than FXAA.

Yeah, that is the place I couldn't target shit, lol. So many people using ice spells.

That and the patterns of the FATEs there is weird. Also, Svara FATEs I more or less rely on the party to Gold it for me cause enemies keep popping in and out on that one.

I loved the eerie horror-y tracks that play in the area though.

The other thing about FXAA is that it is compute-based, using the shader units on a GPU. There's a pretty hard limit on how much you can increase memory bandwidth (raw fillrate) and so traditional AA methods which are very fillrate-dependent (MSAA and SSAA) become unworkable at high resolutions. Meanwhile most GPUs have compute power to burn. Raw memory bandwidth has not increased that much in several generations but compute power has increased by orders of magnitude. It makes sense to do AA on compute units (shaders) when you're trying to push 1080p and higher resolutions.

The people who run multiple Titans can afford to force crazy MSAA or SSAA at insane resolutions. The rest of us who have sane PC budgets really can't.

What is this about infinite gil? The only exploit I was aware of with the Wet Bomb Ash was something about it vendoring for a high value.

Fuck you Square Enix for removing the false gil from the economy that artificially raised the prices of crafted gear and materials! I love being price gouged, and taking away gil from crafters was unfair because I wish to give them more of it!

Sub canceled.

With a new PC coming into my life shortly, I am almost definitely going to pick this up. A few questions:

Is the GAF guild on Ultros full? I had a ton of fun with you guys on beta, and would love to continue being within that same community.

Should I go for Gladiator/Paladin or Arcanist/Summoner? I was a GLA on beta and absolutely loved it. I realize that this is all about personal preference, but... opinions?

Not full, probably won't be. Pld will get groups fast as tanks are currently in need like always

The game needs more Tanks, so yeah.

What is this about infinite gil? The only exploit I was aware of with the Wet Bomb Ash was something about it vendoring for a high value.

There is so much Wet Bomb Ash on the market that it's always 1 gil per. An item could be bought and sold for a pretty decent value which heavily outweighed the expenditure on Wet Bomb Ash.

Normally this kind of this wouldn't be an issue due to the time it takes to make all these exchanges and sell them; however, a hack came into play which allowed a huge number of transactions per second.

This equated to gil generation of epic proportions which was used to buy high value items in the AH. The crafters didn't do anything wrong, but that is where the majority of that gil went.

SE had to blanket ban in order to catch those who were stockpiling the gil and those whom the gil flowed to. They then used their best efforts to reduce the gil in the market to where it should be.

Honestly, I don't know of a better method SE could have used other than not releasing that bug, and having any sort of anti-cheat enabled on the game. They put themselves into a difficult position and had to act accordingly.

Hopefully they learn their lesson and really focus on getting anti-cheat mechanisms incorporated.

I forgot to mention this the other day when it happened, but I was fighting the 2nd boss in CM, and we killed it right on top of some kind of metal shrapnel on the ground. When he died, we couldn't pick up the damn key he dropped. It was underneath the piece of metal and could only be targeted with numpad 0. Every time we tried to pick it up, it said it was "out of reach". We ended up having to leave b/c we couldn't open up the door to the double spotlights.

Anyone else have this happen?

If you subscribe for the 180 days do you pay a lump sum payment immediately or is it just $12.99 deducted a month?

If it's a lump sum then I'll probably just do a 30 day subscription at the entry fee of $12.99.

Thanks

A CM pickup has definitely glitched for me in a session before, not sure if it was specifically that part
