This is why I really want Pac-Man in the game:
All four mascots have "officially" coexisted in one form or another and they all fit in with each other stylistically. It would make for such a great event match.

Pac-Man will be revealed as a Smash character after the Nintendo developed Pac-Man Vs. Championship Edition trailer at the next direct.

I'm honestly surprised a new version of Pac-Man Vs. hasn't happened yet for the Wii U. That Luigi's mansion game in Nintendoland is easily the best minigame as well, would've thought Nintendo would've at least tried to score a port of it which uses the tablet.

I would be overjoyed if my joke came true. Pac-Man Vs. is an amazing game, and it is obvious that type of game would play even better on the Wii U.

Something to consider with the classic fighters is that they aren't added carelessly for the sake of having retro characters -- to date, anyway, they've each represented a particular piece of hardware. Mr. Game & Watch represents the Game & Watch, R.O.B. represents itself, Ice Climbers represent the NES, and Pit represents (well, represented) the Disk System. Since Kid Icarus has been revived and can be considered a contemporary franchise, Takamaru could always be added to fill the Disk System hole left by Pit.
Besides those pieces of hardware, the arcade is left. Sheriff and Donkey Kong Jr. fit there. You could even consider the NES Zapper its own piece of hardware with Duck Hunt representing it. The original Game Boy and Super Nintendo would be considered retro at this point, though I don't think there are any standalone games from those systems worth giving a playable character (and technically, Ness could be considered an SNES rep).
My guess would be Takamaru and... maybe that's it. Even though she's not unlockable, I personally consider Wii Fit Trainer to be this game's equivalent of Mr. Game & Watch and R.O.B. She's an unexpected character representing a historically significant piece of Nintendo hardware.

Maybe Diddy Kong will return with Dixie as a partner ala Ice Climbers, it was planned for Brawl IIRC.

I've never played a Pac-Man game outside of the arcade, so what sort of special moves could he even have? Throwing pellets at people? Maybe it'll be something from one of those platformer games. I like the idea of the character though: he's a gaming icon, like Sonic and Mega Man.
In World I recall his main attack was bouncing and he had a roll move that was similar to Sonic or Jigglypuff. And he could do some basic punches. I assume one of his moves would be him biting like Wario or something.
Who knows where Sakuai would get inspiration though.

I honestly really want Ghirahim and an Uprising character of some sort. Palutena should be first, but if she's in, gotta be Hades.
I've just started Xenoblade, and I can say I'd like to see Shulk too, I just worry Sakurai will see him as too much like the Fire Emblem characters, and only use him for a couple tracks and an assist trophy (of course I could say the same about Ghirahim)
Speaking of Xenoblade's music. MAN! I can see the praise for the music is well founded. I know Guar (?) Plains (where I just got to) had been a top pick and I can hear why. Feels like it would be a great Smash track. It'd funny to me how much it sounds like Dark Pit's theme but of course it's the same composer.

I've come to terms with Pac-Man. I'm still not sure what his moveset will be, but I'm fine with him.
I'd say drop Snake at this point. He'll always be more associated with the Playstation brand than Nintendo. Give his moveset to a character from Advance/Battalion Wars, and give Konami's guest slot to Simon Belmont.
Finally, bring in a SquareEnix character representing Chrono Trigger or an early Final Fantasy game. Maybe a "Final Fantasy Party" transformation character with three of the basic classes from FF1. At that point, you have the perfect batch of guest characters for a Smash Bros game.
Yep, but people are having a hard time believing that since she was revealed so early. For all we know, there might not even be hidden characters this time around. Sakurai's made his feelings on Internet spoilers known, and unfortunately, unlockable characters aren't very novel in this day and age. There will obviously be hidden stages, music, and collectibles, but characters... I'm not feeling 100%.
I love Pac-Man's design here.

I felt same thing because we got Toon Link which I didn't expected at all, and we have two different system with same roster which made me wondering if Sakurai really want us to unlock the roster twice? He might figured it out that he want to spare us from unlocking all of the characters twice.
However it's possible that we will have secret characters because it's a lot of fun to unlocking all of the characters and we could have connectivity between Wii U to 3Ds to automatically unlock all characters on 3DS if I already did on Wii U.
Honestly, I would love to see secret characters again since I would love to unlocking them by myself. I can imaging that I would unlock Palutena by beating Classic or Adventure Mode with Pit, just like old time.

Given how the nature of her character and how they design her... I'm not surprised Tharja is popular.
