Thank you for fixing that post. How the hell could anyone say that about Chan.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=5tmEMnClhsc

I know, I did a search for Twin Dragons on You Tube and it also confirmed the "take a number and get in line" Jackie Chan fighting style. I just hope this revelation doesn't ruin his admiration for Jackie Chan. Although, you do need to wonder how a huge Jackie Chan fan could sort of miss, or perhaps subconsciously ignore, this obvious fact.

Thought this might be relevant here, since the thread is still about the game (I hope). New PA update with a comic and news post dedicated (primarily) to AC:

Trying to figure out how you can make a DS game out of a next-generation sandbox title where you prowl through an entire era of history seems like kind of a tough nut. Seriously tough, like the dense iron nuts that fall from the Unending Oak, that which is called by elves Perpetua. Utilizing (and, I believe, expending) a great deal of our influence, we were able to discern the truth of it: a radical departure from the franchise proper, whose adorability index has pierced the cuddle threshold.

I don't think we're supposed to say anything about Assassin's Creed. Let me see if I can talk around it: I often get nervous when we work on a project for a title, because we need to make gut decisions about a piece of software when it is still more "process" than "product."

I am no longer nervous.

Uh, I was thanking HomerSimpson-Man for correcting your post, and then posted a youtube link to an incredible multiple-person fight from Police Story II. If you watch that and think he's "taking numbers" then you must not be a fan movie fighting in general. Few choreographers have done multi-person fight scenes as well as Jackie Chan has.

This is a wait-in-line fight.

No correction needed. Yes, we must all suspend our belief, but let's face it, if Jackie Chan was simultaneously attacked by 10+ guys he would be eviscerated (or gang banged, if you prefer) - unless, of course, they took a number and got in line.

What?

Wait so you're just arguing that Jackie Chan would get beaten up by ten guys? Well yeah he usually gets the crap beaten out of him in his movies...

This man gets it. If you had to pick a person to focus using the old "single line", then you couldn't have used a worse example than Jackie Chan, considering he's the best example of exactly the opposite!

Precisely.

There's a limit to how many people can actually surround a guy and hit him before they get in each other's way. The last 45 seconds of that Police Story 2 clip are absolutely awesome and Chan's fending off at least two guys simultaneously most of that time.

Watched them and wow. This is like the first next gen game I've seen to really just blow my mind in concept.

Ah screw it, my 14 month pre-order of the AC boxset at play-asia was cancelled:

Dear weaksauce gamer,

This is an important e-mail update regarding your pending Assassin's Creed Collectors Box Set preorder (Order #4259222).

Unfortunately, the Assassin's Creed Collectors Box Set will not be made available in Asia as previously advertised by us in 2006 and early of 2007. We therefore regret to inform you that your preorder will not be fulfilled under the same conditions as initially expected.

We at Play-Asia.com are much striving for customer satisfaction and are pleased to offer you a valuable substitution for our initial offer. Your Assassin's Creed Collectors Box Set preorder will now contain the following items.

* Assassin's Creed Game (English language Asia Edition)
* Neca Assassin's Creed 7 inch Action Figure: Altair (Originally priced at US$ 16.90) http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-8x-70-2928.html
* US$ 10 Store Credit Coupon (not applicable to your current preorder)

Your preorder has already been updated to contain those items. The US$ 10 store credit coupon will be e-mailed to you upon shipment of your preorder and can be used for any purchase in the future, without any minimum purchase restriction.

The Asia release version of Assassin's Creed (estimated to be in stock by middle of this month) is expected to be region free. In case of any unforeseen change, you will still be notified prior shipment completion.

But that sexy boxset... :(

Without starting a fight, do we know if there are any differences between PS3 and 360?

I remember Element mentioning awhile back that AC had some pretty cool waggle implementations in the game, but I don't know if this came to fruition?

Those vids are pretty nice, but the horrible stream encoding makes the game look like it runs at 15fps.

Can't say for certain, but i think the only difference is going to be in lighting. Like we've seen in many other milti-platform games. In the end it's not something i would concern myself with, it's going to be very minimal if anything.

Never heard anything about waggle. You've peaked my curiosity.

Here's the real one:
I opened the thread to this page and just saw the top left corner of this pic, not knowing it was a wallpaper. Seeing only the top left corner of the pic I actually thought it was a real place because of the words "here's the real one". Assumed we were maybe talking about a location in the game or something modeled after a real place.

Wow. Lighting really has come along way.

There is no sixaxis usage in the game. There is though, a cool use of rumble. If you begin to use your grip it will let you know by rumbling. Ps3' owners won't be able to experience that for a while.

Damn. I wish Sony would have released the new Rumble controller in time for this game. I assumed rumble would play a role in immersion simply by interacting with the crowd.

Yup cause I always rumble when i bump into someone. (:lol )

One thing that really turned me off about this game was the Jackie Chan "wait in line" fighting AI. Has this been addressed or are the enemies still waiting in line to have a go at you?

They all crowd and surround you, cut you off, strike your horse if you try to escape and you will have to fight them off. It's not just one of the group fighting you, any one of them can strike.

But they will not all 25 of them stick their sword in you at the same time, for obvious reasons of making the game actually fun and a reasonable challenge instead of impossible. Games are about making the player feel like a superhero, after all.

Framerate is great and tearing is not there in version I played. There is a few tiny bugs in this version, one can slow down the framerate, but is very rare and is (i believe) due to the fact there still was a debug mode in this version I played that I activated by accident every once in a while.

I'm interested in more detail here. Is there a "New Game+" option? I'm not a fan of action games where you start out with a handful of moves, learn new moves as you progress, but then to replay have to start with a limited moveset again.

Seeing that pickpocket video made me do a 180 on this title. It also made me cancel Mario Galaxy. I've come to realize that I am only interested in action RPGs. AssCr, MassEff, KuF, TooHu, and Fable 2 all have this in common, although AssCr is potentially the weakest from an RPG (level-up) perspective. More like Uncharted, which I'm also looking for "NewGame+" info on before putting down $60.

Edit: Are there difficulty levels?

You can just replay chapter from the game and thereby go exploring, etc, or do more of the missions you missed before. Not a new game+. It's also not an RPG, but as you rise in rank in the assassin's guild you gain more abilities, therefore it has 'leveling' in that sense by progress in the story and by doing a lot of missions. Also pickpocketing is very cool, but somewhat underused in the game maybe to buy because of that, since it's not very assassin-like after all. You are not a thief, but an information gatherer.

Oh, hello there Uncanny Valley.

:lol

That is a prototypical example of the uncanny valley. The "almost human" qualities of the character on the right make her incredibly unappealing, even though her real life picture looks great.

The buildings are nice on the outside. But what about the inside? its always been a dream of mine to go into the mosques and churches in the Holy Land.

Do we have any idea if Altair levels up or gains abilities/weapons as the game progresses? I keep hearing and reading about all these side quests and talk about the game being anywhere from 12-30 hours long and I wonder if a game of that length will get boring if it is just a progression of more complex layouts to research and kill your next target. I really hope we do more than run, jump, stab in the neck, run, jump, stab in the neck; etc.

You gain new items as the game progresses (or rather, your items are given back to you). Certain items unlock new abilities (and animations). Some upgrades actually open up new movements. I believe it's been said one of them even adds new elements to the combat system.

Did Ubisoft send Gamersyde a preview/review build after? Wondering if we can expect any gameplay videos and impressions from the 'crew around launch window.
We didn't get anything yet. And if Kobold is to be believed (which remains to be seen considering his tag ;)) our embargo will be on November 15 anyway...

Btw someone on my forum who works at Ubisoft Annecy told us that one month ago the PS3 version was running at 5 fps less than the 360 version, but otherwise was 100% identical (same data). He doesn't think the Montreal team will be able to get it to run at the same speed without doing compromises on something else though.

In those videos there was some pretty bad tearing and, the framerate seemed all over the place. I haven't been following, but have these issues been fixed? What's the early word on these?

Can games even be locked at 25fps?
:lol It's like you have an alarm that goes off when something "bad" is said about the PS3 version. You're not going to notice a difference performance wise between the PS3 and 360. (Hopefully)

Yeah, that was some very bad tearing, IIRC Ubisoft said somewhere last week that AC doesn't have any technical problems. Let's hope the final build doesn't have that kind of tearing, because that Dev diary movie looked awesome.

just wondering about the collector's edition for AC... are there going to be differing sizes of the altair figurines for each region?

it appears europe will be getting some massive 30cm altair (http://www.cynamite.de/pc/news/more...ssins_creed_limited_edition_angekuendigt.html) while the gamestop website (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=200363) lists the north american version as having a 3-inch figurine.

pity, because the giant altair would have been much more menacing going up against the big daddy.

hope, not....Ive got this preordered, but Ill be quite pissed if the version is gimped...Im very hyped for this game, but I hope the ps3 version doenst get bitch slapped, Ill prob cancel if it does. Graphics are a big factor for me. Its pretty annoying how ps3 multiplat often seem downgraded, when exclusive games look very nice, but I suppose the architecture must me further from pc, while the 360 isnt or some such

I ordered the Limited Edition from Play.com and it does not advertise the 26cm model being included so I opted to order it seperately, if this offer is available elsewhere im going to cancel my play.com order and get it there.
