And I thought people who judge a game based on one hour of playing time were bad. Apparently not having the game is enough to dismiss it as disappointing and the "worst since gen 5"(WTF gen 5 the worst? Jesus).

NOTHING TOPS NEOGAF WITH THE HYPERBOLE NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!

Sad but true. Makes it unbearable here at times. That and the hive mind mentality. And people posing their opinions as fact. And calling devs lazy. And the sense of entitlement.

Edit: the worst part if it all is that we are all enough to be mature about all this stuff but it always ends up as some sort of childish dross.

Gen V had 150 Pokemon and I thought it was shit. The amount of new Pokemon isn't everything.

What was so different about Gen V compared to the other gens? I mean the games are virtually all the same in terms of gameplay mechanics, story structure and how you actually move around the world. Biggest new thing in each game are really the pokemons.

I'm hoping GF will bring their A-game again in Gen 7. With VI, its not just the low roster number that bothers me, but the very poort type balancing among new Pokemon. Poison, Ice, Bug are among the stuff that really got shafted in terms of new representation. Its too bad GF didn't try to spread the love this Gen.

Eh, they've never been great.

Fore example:
4 Ghost Pokemon in the first 2 Generations
4 Dragon Pokemon in the first 2 Generations
More Poison Pokemon in Gen 1 than Gen 2-5 combined
Low number of Fire types in Gen 3/4
No pure Rock/Ghost/Ice Pokemon in Gen 1

=DragonKnight;85009309 And calling devs lazy. And the sense of entitlement.

I would like to see those people model and animate 700+ Pokemon, which includes Pokedex animations, Amie, Super training animation, and attacks! :p

With Gen II and VI i couldnt agree less actually. Hell i dont know if id agree with it at all with any gen. If that were the case id be able to go back to gen I and play. But i cant because of all the improvements.

Think about all the features we got in gen II and are getting in gen VI. Id wager them to far outweigh new pokes. I know we have been conditioned to expect a lot but after gen VI i know i wont be able to go back to gen V.

I'd rather PokeGOD have 70 new Pokemon in 3D flawlessness than a SMTIV type mess of 2D sprite SNES grfx.

This is how it's done.

I find it hilarious that people who haven't played the games are saying is the worst generation ever because of the number of new Pokemon.
I find hilarious that people actually care that much about the number of new Pokémon.

Maybe to you, but not for everyone. To me there are TONS of things as important as new Pokémon and GF seem to have nailed in other departments this new Gen. We are not in Gen 1 anymore, when we had only 151 Pokémon. We have 649 now, not counting the Gen VI ones and that is A LOT of Pokémon. Thank god GF is slowing down and creating less Pokémon and I hope Gen VII introduces only 70~80 again.

Ice has been shafted for ages. Gen V we got 8 Ice types, all pure Ice except Kyurem who was a legendary. Gen IV we got 6 new Ice Pokemon, 1 new family and 4 evolves of older Pokemon.

I hope this game reintroduce a well balanced rarity.

You remember how satisfying it was to find a Pikachu in Viridian Forest or a Chansey in RBY ? A Misdreavus or a Larvitar in GSC ? An Chimecho or a Feebas in RSE ?

Now, it's fucked up. In Gen V, there's wild Metagrosses and they're not hard to find. And I also hate the fact that there's wild "need to be traded to evolve" Pokemon, that's stupid, that ruins the principle.

Some pokemon need to be rare as hell, some need to be hard to make evolve.

My response to this:

Wow, what heartless assholes. Most people just want to use their favorites. I'd rather have most Pokemon I encounter be useful so that I don't have to deal with the disappointment of getting a Pokemon whose design I like just to discover that it's a piece of shit.

"Then there's no incentive to catch new Pokémon. Why would I want to catch later Pokémon if my early Pokémon are just as good? Your focus on power-gaming is to the detriment of the single player experience."

Which is a weird position to have when your favorite games include stuff like Skyrim and you're obsessed with choice and player agency, but whatever. I just like seeking validation outside work since I simply don't agree with their design philosophies and don't get to substantially contribute to major design decisions.

Don't get me wrong. Obviously the series has evolved over time as new features and gameplay mechanics have been added.

But when you look at how the game is played and unfolds. It's still pretty much the same as back in red and blue.

I hope the people who are disappointed with 70 pokes dont feel like they dont have a voice. Everyone has their opinion and i hate that hivemind shit. But it makes for poor discourse to just say "the games are horrible now because of less pokes" without kinda fleshing out your reasoning behind it. That sets up an unstated assumption that more equals better.

Poke for poke wise gen iv had more pokes yet for me it is the weakest game in the series and remains completely forgetable.

Same basic backbone but a completely different game otherwise. That like saying that FF10 is pretty much FF1. Okay. Same basic backbone. Completely different in everything else.

And that's the best thing about the series. Not nearly enough turn based games out there.

Also. It's not even remotely the same. Significant changes across all gens to refine the formula

Yeah, I'm very likely to enjoy XY regardless, but new Pokemon are a big part of why I like Gen transitions, so I can't help but to have my hype feel deflated.

i'm not sure how this is so hard to understand. collecting new pokes is what i'm having most fun with in new pokemon games. i'm not a competitive player and since i can transfer all my old ones over i'm rather fast done with the new title.

You have the right to that opinion. Hopefully everything else the game offers makes up for it.

Edit: clearly, people like these games for different reasons. We need to remember that.

so what? that's why we love it, that's why it's pokemon and not another game. nobody complains that Street Fighter 4 is basically the same as SF2. why change what makes the game awesome and fun? there's plenty of pokemon spinoffs.

But...but...you can talk to demons and have a random fight every 3 minutes!

Also, on the topic of "70 Pokemons", I'd rather have no new pokemons at all and have Pidgey, Rattata, Sentret, Hoothoot, Poochyena, Zigzagoon, Starly, Bidoof, Patrat and Lilipup on Route 1 & 2.

I hope next game introduces like 10 Pokemons but have all the 700 older ones "catchable" and WELL BALANCED RARITY.

personally I am disappointed in the number.
For artistic exploitative reasons.
However not fan of the word hyperbole, because for me most of the time its just whining.

Meh, it's the same bullshit people typically give Nintendo and similar games without noticing that most successful series do exactly the same thing.

But why would they change the basics when it would only lose them more people than it would bring in? Most people who just say: "It's still the same as in the first games, nothing has changed!" don't know what they're talking about and have not and will not have the intention to buy a Pokemon game no matter how much it actually changes. Most Pokemon fans don't want this franchise to change to something it's not and are happy with the size of gameplay changes they HAVE made up until now.

From a outsiders point of view changes such as double battles and the physical/special split are negligible but are in reality huge gamechangers.

I think another thing coming into play here is that people are really hype for this game and seeing people disappointed about something kills their hype somewhat. Its silly but yeah.

My goodness. The appeal of Pokemon and SMT are completely different. Don't be an *** and to make one out as better than the other.

SMT is challenge, narrative, and choice driven

Pokemon is collection, competitively, and casually driven

Creature collection and rock paper scissors gameplay means little as similarities

What? Why would someone who is disappointed in a game would affect my hype for it? I might be misreading your post there.

This game has so much other stuff going for it that it's hard to get hung up on a slight disappointment with the number of new Pokemon. The 12th can't get here soon enough.
