Super Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS Thread 2: Where Pilotwings is apparently Minecraft

Am I being too critical or do Fox's fur and teeth look AWFUL compared to how good the rest of his assets look?

No, you are right, current "fur" looks like shit. It is really a shame that Fox looks worse than in a 11 years old game.

Blaster also looks too comical IMO.

The game in general isn't that great looking for the platform, it isn't terrible looking or anything, but Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D World both look quite a bit better. I'm willing to bet that might change before release, but if not it is probably more on Namco than Nintendo. On the plus side the 3DS version looks incredible for the platform it is on.

I think right now the point is to get the character sea worthy.

Then the prettyness comes later.

Well you have to take in count, that you almost never will see Fox this close to the camera in game. Why waste time and resources to make one character look better, then you actually need to do. Fox properly gets a better model, if they have time left to optimize everything.

Keep Snake out and change Lucario into Mega Lucario lol

I know you are more likely to be joking around but seriously, I hate it when people are acting like gamefaqs and telling people to change the roster because they don't like the specific characters.

For example, if I hate Waluigi. I wouldn't dare to tell them to get rid of it because it's their opinion. Instead of that, I would expressed my venomous hates for waluigi. :P

(I apologized If I'm being hypocrite because I don't really remember if I ever tell someone to get rid of character from their prediction or wish list, but if you did. Then my bad.)

In light of the recent Toon Link and Sonic reveals, I'm going on a limb thinking Sakurai won't cut anyone, so I revised my roster:

What do you think?

Look good so far but I don't think it would happens. I just reading some of old articles during recent weekend and the article reminded me that Sakurai really want to bring retro characters back for SSB4, so your roster lack any of retro characters.

I wouldn't want to navigate this roster on any TV less than 25". CRT people am cry.

Then buy bigger screen ;P

Nice, his scouter now displays stuff!

Something something power level...

Oh, sorry for the formulation. I personally don't play competitive and thus have no need for a CRT screen. It's just that most screens I've seen on tournaments still are pretty small compared to most HDTV's, so this theoretical roaster would be awful to navigate for those players.

If the roster's getting that big, they don't have to keep fitting it onto a single screen.

True, but usually I prefer my roster on a single screen. I hate having to navigate sub-menu's or multiple pages of roster to select my character.

I worded that poorly - they shouldn't adhere to the typical grid layout if it's going to be a detriment to navigate. If they're willing to be crafty with the UI they can easily move the elements around to fit everything in reasonably.

Yeah. Different menu layouts for the different resolutions would be absolutely awesome (that's what you mean with "move the elements around to fit everything in reasonably", right?) :D

Why should snake be out?

Snake should DEFINITELY get the cut because he has no business there. ESPECIALLY when Kojima makes excuse after excuse not to bring his games to Nintendo consoles. Oh, and we're still waiting on that 'unique game which makes a special use of the GamePad'. When he commits to supporting them, then PERHAPS and ONLY THEN should Nintendo start considering him as additional content. But until then, Snake and Kojima's wishes can fuck right off. It ought to be a point of principle. We have, at least, seen Mega Man entries on the DS - entries which weren't bad port jobs released next to collections elsewhere.

Would rather sign that petition to put Reggie in the game, in his place (I haven't signed it), but I feel that his spot should go to a team that would appreciate it. Truthfully, Snake should be cut and replaced with Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 characters - By playing as them in a popular game, it could help or encourage people to buy those games, and I feel that this would be more in their interests.

Sector z style stages wouldn't work in a smash game with characters as fast as sonic. New pork city was already an unplayable mess

I don't think you can compare Sector Z and NPC at all. Sector Z is a simple, big stage while NPC is a terrible mess of small platforms.

Seen from my decidedly casual standpoint

New Pork City was a mess because the stage offered way too much space to avoid combat, even in a 4 player match, in conjunction with its size. Temple is a huge stage, but it's not nearly as annoying, since if you're caught in an area on the stage you're likely going to run into another opponent if you escape.

Someone looks waaaay too happy! lol

I still would have preferred a design closer to Star Fox 64/3D to Melee Fox, or a hybrid of them all to an updated Brawl Fox.

Something like this...

Hope he doesn't suck as much in this game. Fox needs to be a great character! :D

Yo, it would be dope if Fox had some slick fur like he has in his promotional artwork rather than this bump mapped in game fur.

You realize that The Wonderful 101 is a Nintendo-owned IP. Nintendo owns all the rights to the series.

As for Bayonetta, Sonic already properly represents Sega. I wouldn't mind Bayonetta, but two Sega reps would be a bit much.

agreed. I like Kos-Mos and her design; plus, she was created by Monolithsoft and all. . .but her main games aren't on a Nintendo console. Snake was actually a pretty bad choice when you think about it as well. He only had The Twin Snakes going for him and the NES and GBC titles. Nothing major. If Namco ports the Xenosaga games over to the Wii-U then I'd have no problem with Kos-Mos.
Actually, Xenosaga was on a Nintendo console:

...but only in Japan.

Frankly, I'm just glad Sakurai is nowhere near as fickle, vindictive or vitriolic as this post is. He's probably thinking more like "Snake was in Brawl; people will miss him if he's cut; let's keep him in", and not thinking "Konami screwed us over, so I'm cutting Snake out of spite". That kind of bridge-burning gets nobody anywhere.

Ooh, I guess I missed the fox announcement. Neat.
What announcement? He was present in the game's initial reveal.

Those sharp teethe first appeared in Star Fox Adventures I believe, I still don't like it but at least they aren't as ratty as they were then and in Assault. Looks like more work went into the gun than Fpz himself, I'm sure that will change upon release.

I kinda doubt it. I think Fpz [sic] will remain as non-fuzzy as he is presently.

You know who deserves a stage

Bowser!

This is his third game and after every other Mario character having a specific level for them, he's had nothing but pretending to fit into Norfair.

Lava, a dark castle, lots of moving platforms and hazards, we need a Bowser level. His castles are some of the most iconic final levels in gaming, and he's been underrepresented in Smash Bros.

I guess because Samus has a monopoly on lava levels, but come on. Bowser's castle is too awesome to leave out of 3 games!

Probably a non-issue because I don't know if you can even get that close ingame or in the camera mode but Fox's normals on his hands/arms don't look so hot up close, lol. But still, dat blaster.

Agreed, with lightning flashing and the clown copter silhouette in the background... imagine.

I love the new blaster design with the small details like the Starfox logo and the orange parts.

For comparison here are the previous versions

Melee Fox is still the better Fox. I can't believe how ugly my main has gotten in the years, doesn't even seem the same character.

It starts on an airship with horizontal scrolling. You're flying over a NSMB field, an inactive volcano slowly comes into view in the far distance.

Suddenly the sky grows dark, the volcano bursts open, sending rocks flying, they pummel the airship, ripping it apart. The fighters clings to a small piece of shrapnel that slowly falls down to lava floored area. The piece sinks slowly into the lava, and the fighters have to jump onto a bone roller coaster cart. This is a flat platform. The screen scrolls behind them, bringing them ever closer to the castle in the background. Airships still float ominously overhead. As the platform follows a track it speeds up sometimes (pushing fighters in the air back) and up and down hills (changing the pitch of the platform).

At the end, the roller coaster speeds way up and crashes through the gates of the castle. Everyone lands on large green blocks. These green blocks float along (you know the ones) and you fight around them as they move over a bottomless pit. Hammer Bros on platforms throw hammers and try to knock you off while Drybones sometimes fall onto the blocks to hurt you slightly.

Finally the green blocks flash and fall, and you find yourself in an arena with cheering members of the Koopa Troop in the crowd. Bowser Jr, in his mini clown car is in the background and throws spiked balls at you that bounce around. You can knock the balls back by smashing them. After three balls are smacked back at Bowser Jr, the stage "ends", the floor opens into a hangar, and an airship takes off quickly away from the volcano and the scene resets to the field it was at the start.

I agree with a few people. Melee fox was the best. His design wasn't overly complicated like I feel it is now. Also, anyone else wondering why his blaster is opening? I wonder if it's a new move or if you can charge his normal b so that it had hit-stun rather than just damage with no flinch?

Yeah, honestly I'm amazed at how we're getting a Mario Kart game that looks better than Smash. Still not crazy about the primary color direction.

That said, aside from his fingers I think Fox looks great in this shot. The blaster has never looked better

anyone who says the Melee model looks better is crayyyyzzaaayyy

Yeah.

Should've used Adventures look at least. But apparently Japan likes the "cute-ish" Fox.

Meh @ wanting any character out. Fuck principle.

Like it's not enough for you to have the characters you want in the game, you also need other people to not have theirs. WTF.
