Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

So, whynot, y'know, go to another store or order from amazon like you did with Ni No Kuni? :lol
Oh well, the Universe is trying to coax you into the superior all-digital club. ;)

They gave VK away for free a week or two ago.

How big is VK3 anyway?

Two reasons:

One, I'm at work until 8pm. By the time I get home, most of the stores that sell games (ie, Gamestop or Target), that are near my house, are closed.

Two, I want to play the game today, not wait two or three business days to play it.

VK3 is 900MB. Our work internet is just a laughing stock right now, though. I don't think it's been this bad in a long time.

Yeah, I don't mind digital, but when I can, I prefer to have the retail version of a game. They are doing a good job at ushering me into the digital club, though. I think I have 41 games installed on my Vita right now, not including VK3 (which is STILL downloading...).

I only own about 10 retail games for now.

I went from about 10 to 0 as sales and PS+ gave me digital copies of what I already had.
I'm back now to 1, as it makes sense to put a game that is huge in the card slot and just leave it there (I'm looking at you, Killzone).

If you have Amazon Prime, a lot of times games will arrive on the release date. I usually go with Amazon for the convenience most times. Occasionally I'll look for a retail store if I need something sooner or there's a good deal.

I know digital isn't for everyone -- but I love it.
My only wish was for a bigger memory card. I still wish they made a 128gb already. :|
At least, as it stands, since I plan on buying a Vita TV at some point (once PS4 controllers are out and maybe bundled with it), at least I have a home for my old 32gb... or maybe I'll sell it here if someone is willing to give me a reasonable price for it.

Eh, I'm not entirely convinced. It doesn't seem like a great fit with the current Vita demographic. I think it'll start to do well when the Vita gets a sizeable price drop and Minecraft lands. Maybe the Vita TV too. As it stands, I don't expect to see it sell too well yet.

I don't think it will be a great fit with any Vita demographic. Still, you people were saying before that Angry Birds is the best selling 3DS third party people in the USA. So I'm probably wrong.

I don't know why someone would buy this game for more than 5€/$
__

And that Persona sale is really sweet. Frost, go and buy P3P! The VN style could be a meltdown, but I think it's actually worse dying because Mitsuru saw you with 5% health and still casted Marin Karin instead of Dia.

The Persona 2 that was published in the PS1 but not the PSP in the West is in the Store or not?

the old AB games are free on Google Play, this is insane, I hope no one at all buy Angry Birds Trilogy at that price.

and don't buy P3P, even for $9 it's a horrible horrible port.

Already grabbed P3P the last time it was on sale. :)
It'll probably get loaded onto my 64gb card when it arrives.

I am setting myself up to grief as I am almost positive Valhalla Knights 3 will get a discount soon but I am set on buying it on its first days...

...Just.... just give me a couple of days to contemplate this action......

Yet with superior superior gameplay.

And you know, that FES can't be played during downtime at work.

The real question is, which game do I want to play next?
Persona 4 Golden, or Pokemon Y?

EDIT: To clarify, I have both (and have had Persona for a while now), but I've been trying to finish various games in my backlog before I start playing one that will occupy the majority of my gaming time. Now that I've cleared up my backlog a bit, I'm trying to figure out whether I should take a break from my Vita and finally give my 3DS some love, or start playing Persona 4 Golden.
I'm unfamiliar with the Persona series, but have played some of the SMT games and Pokemon up until Black/White.

After spending some time with the Vita 2000, some more thoughts on headphone output power, speakers, FASTER WIFI?, how PSP/PS1 games look, screen brightness, long play sessions, and more:

Here are the other 3 unboxing and hands on videos I did if you missed them:

There's some extra stuff on sale, apparently:

Class Of Heroes $7.49 $14.99
Crimson Gem Saga $7.49 $14.99
Disgaea: Hour Of Darkness $4.99 $9.99
Hexyz Force $7.49 $14.99
Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble $7.49 $14.99
Knights In The Nightmare $7.49 $14.99
Riviera: The Promised Land $4.99 $9.99
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona $9.99 $19.99
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 2: Innocent Sin $9.99 $19.99
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable $9.99 $19.99

Yggdra Union $4.99 $9.99

Time to get all the Persona games! P3P was worth paying $20 for however, so no regrets on that. Plus it's been some time anyway.

Well... you are more of Pokemon person then, and people are playing Pokemon right now, that will encourage you of playing the game to the end with no delay, then play P4G when you are done with Pokemon that way you can focus on it.

P3P is what drove me to buy a PSP in the first place. Paid full price. No regrets.

even for free it don't worth it, no one should play a Persona game like that.

I'm going to go ahead and say P4G is the superior game requiring collecting creatures to fight for you. ;)

Then again, I've never really been into Pokemon. :P

The price of Angry Birds is absurd, you can get the same game in your smartphone for less than 2 bucks, and the exclusive 20 levels for Vita don't justify the overprice. Between this and the prices for Fruit Ninja on Vita and Cut the Rope for 3DS, I am tired of mobile developers viewing console gamers as cash cows.

Well, the reason why I stopped was because I got burnt out on the series. Does Pokemon X/Y really change things up that much?

So Persona 4 has a collection element as well? How many creatures/demons/personas/whatever are we talking about?

VitaGaf.... I have failed you....

Pokemon has destroyed my life..

I need something on Vita to make me feel whole again...

Well, the reason why I stopped was because I got burnt out on the series. Does Pokemon X/Y really change things up that much?
It actually takes the entire game and cranks it to 11. Best one hands down. I can't stop raving about it...
(Or believing that its actually real and that I'm playing it..)

Well, the reason why I stopped was because I got burnt out on the series. Does Pokemon X/Y really change things up that much?

Sadly no, it's really the same core framework and structure and gameplay as always, just with new graphics and some new feature that do not add to the core game play experience.

So Persona 4 has a collection element as well? How many creatures/demons/personas/whatever are we talking about?

179 If I'm not mistaken, you fuse multiple ones to get new and better ones.

I could have sworn I saw Persona 2 for $9.99 a few days ago just browsing around the store is that the same game on sale now?

Also Persona 4 on vita is my first game I bought in the series should I just get Persona 3 to play next or pick up one of the other ones?

The craziest thing about the Angry Birds Trilogy on Vita is that it's not even published by Activision. It's straight up Rovio's own doing, and that makes it absolutely ridiculous.

P3P is an awful abomination and not a real Persona experience at all, they cut the 3D real time town explorations and replaced it with point and click wallpaper (i'm not joking) no animated cutscenes at all, they are all got removed (in a story focus game like Persona..just think about that), new down/town camera make it like ants simulations and got worst graphics, just do not buy it. if you can get P3FES on your PS2 or something.

if you want more Persona on Vita get Persona 2IS or EP, just do not touch P3P.

I'm hoping that maybe they pull a Fruit Ninja, realize they overpriced it, and cut at least $10 off the price next week. I played the 3DS version, and it was an improvement over the iOS originals in some ways -- so much so that I would've bought the Vita version right now if the price had been reasonable. $40, though? That's a lot harder to swallow.

I haven't even played it and I can tell you I don't want to play P3 or P3:FES. I'm only interested in P3P unless they make a Vita version along the lines of P4G.

I can control my party and have the option to play a female MC? Plus it's the only version I can load on my Vita? SOLD.

Besides, for me, the "real time 3D town exploration" was the worst part of P4G. :P

And I don't remember *that* many animated cutscenes in P4G... so yeah... P3P all the way.

Indeed. I do have AZ prime, but a lot of these games I don't decide on until the last minute. I didn't have any plans to buy VK3 until yesterday, and it was too late to get release date shipping.

For now, my 32GB card is more than enough. I rocked the 8GB one for about 6 months before I eventually upgraded when I saw the 32GB one on sale and decided, "what the hell."

64 is cool, but I really don't need it right now. Having 40+ games at the press of a button is more than enough. I just swap out what I'm bored with/done playing. Except for Persona 4. I beat it, but I can't bring myself to delete it. Lol.

I like fighting games. A lot.
So if you figure I want to keep all my fighters on my card for pickup and play access, you've got UMvC3 (1.3gb or so), MK9 (3.1gb), SFxT (2.5gb), BBCS2E (3.1gb), DoA5+ (3.1gb). That's pretty much 14.5gb of space reserved for my fighters.

Figure in some other stuff I always want on my card, like Lumines (1gb), Dragon's Crown (1gb), Killzone patch (1.2gb), EDF 2017 (.7gb), WipEout 2048 (2.x), etc. It didn't leave me with a lot of room to navigate -- I had to back off SFxT and NGS+ amongst others so I could fit the Killzone patch and download Dragon's Crown... all of my PSP games basically got tossed too... so I wanted more space so I could keep a few more things on there, especially since I forget I picked things up in a sale or whatever a lot of times unless they're on my card. :lol

I just couldn't resist the 64gb and really wish for a 128gb. Someday...

I really recommend watching Marc The Geek's "Final Impressions" review of the new Vita Slim: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RI-ktYoWcw

He doesn't post here, but he's a legit Vitabro, and brings up excellent points after having it for about a week and already doing unboxing/comparison vids... really thorough from someone who sits down and plays their Vita all the time.

Ends up deciding which one to keep at the end.

What made me share the video here was the point he made about memory at around the 3:50 mark: the internal 1GB storage becomes inactive when you put in a memory card. So you can't turn a 32GB into 33GB for example. Makes sense since data would be partitioned without any choice in the matter, and I was wondering how that would work.

People who hate the blue light on the white Vita's PS button might be happy, though.

You'd like the PS2 P3: FES, corrosivefrost... I never finished it because I got a PS3 not too long after I picked up FES, but it was great. If it was playable on Vita, you'd definitely want it, but I've got my fingers crossed for Golden treatment as a native Vita game too.

I like fighting games. A lot.

That's pretty much me. Fighting games, go-to time killers, racing games, pinball, internet and media apps... none of that stuff's going anywhere, and shouldn't. Add LBPV in for me, too. I always play new levels and go mess around and in create. Even stuff like Dragon's Crown or Disgaea, you hop in and grind when the mood strikes, not only when you get home and can then wait for the game to transfer back over. Stuff with multiplayer etc

Yeah, I feel you. I'm not that big into fighting games. I only have UMvC3, PS All Stars, and Mortal Kombat. Marvel 3 is retail, All Stars, and MK are digital, but I haven't even installed it onto my memory card yet. I keep forgetting I have it. I think I bought it during that sale where it was $5. I'll probably get Injustice at some point, though. After I get my PS4, though.

Most of the large games I get disc when possible. I have Atelier Totori installed, but I'm not really feeling that one, and I may delete it again. I'm early in VK3, and I'm liking it a lot more than Totori right now. What I really want is a Vita Ni No Kuni, port or spin off, I don't care.

Ends up deciding which one to keep at the end.

Too lazy to watch, what was his verdict?

I have a feeling they will announce a Vita version of it.

And if they do... I would buy it again.

I would buy it instantly, full retail even.
Even haven't not played P3P.

I don't know about P3:FES. The idea that my party members do what they want is aggravating. I may have turned on auto-battle a lot once I had things equipped and situated, but I couldn't imagine fighting some of those fights I had to originally with 3 AI idiots on the job.

And yeah, I love the freedom all digital gives me. I wish Sony would take a step toward making Vita/PS4 like Steam with showing you a store/library/etc. With PS+, it could autosync and autopatch like steam... and I'd know every game I could download and had on my download history. It's a pipe dream though...

I wish Ni No Kuni had remote play.
I'll probably put Sony Smash back on my card too if I have space to play around with.
I can tell you, with almost absolute certainty, that I will not buy Injustice. Only on Steam for $5 or less.
But I hope you all support it so WB/NRS keeps porting things to Vita.

I tried playing P3:FES after finishing P3P and it was nearly impossible thanks to the AI. I imagine that it gets better after you build up your character to the point that you can effectively solo the dungeons so the AI characters are just functioning as targets for the enemy to attack besides you.

Which is sad, really, since the game attempts to make you care about your party through the plot, but sabotages this by making them stupid liabilities during actual gameplay. I can't imagine finishing P3:FES and feeling nothing but either contempt or apathy for my party members after all the braindead antics they pull during crucial moments.

Which is to say, P3P > P3:FES.

VitaGAF.....so I felt cravings for Pokemon X/Y this week due to nostalgia. Huge Red/Blue fan growing up. Was actually considering on purchasing 3DS XL for it...

Then I checked out a system at my local best buy. I could not get past the poor screen and the latency on the touch screen. I just hate how Nintendo cheaped out on their portable market and supported poor hardware for decades.

He's sticking with OLED.

...it's been a long time since I played P3 and some hardcore fans could tell you better than I can, but I could swear I was able to switch between auto & manual for party members.

After thinking about it, I've come to the conclusion that the Touhou franchise would work best on the Vita. I'm surprised it hasn't even tried to make it overseas on PC since it is a PC game franchise...

Here's gameplay of Touhou for those that aren't familiar with it. Having a brutally hard game like Touhou as a portable game would be great. If also love to see how'd it do overseas. It's popularity is already more than I ever would've imagined for such a franchise.

With all the time I've spent with the Vita, I would love to see the franchise on it. Vita can take the Doujin Scene! Capitalism, Ho!

Hardware-wise, the Vita and 3DS/XL feel at least a generation apart. So I don't think it would be fair to judge them 1:1.

I still play games on my DS Lite and as long as I keep my expectations in check, I'm able to enjoy myself despite the technological gap that separates it from my Vita.

I'm from australia and I was wondering if there's an easier way to buy stuff from the US store since I really wanna get some of the persona games which are significantly cheaper, any way to buy directly with paypal/credit card? or should I hold out and wait for a sale in my own region's store.

The Persona 2 that was published in the PS1 but not the PSP in the West is in the Store or not?

Persona 2 was split over two games, Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. Persona 2: Innocent Sin wasn't originally localized on PSone, so Atlus released the PSP version. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment wasn't localized for PSP, so Atlus put up the localized PSone version on PSN.

We need to send shahid to Japan. And Airship Q is a new indie game from japan that got funded. We should all buy this instead of terraria honestly.

Hi, you can easily get a PSN online code from Amazon.com (just have a make an account with fake US address, use SnS, BorderLinx or MyUS address) and use it on your US PSN account.

however this will require you to make a US PSN account to use the us PSN code, and remember that it's a hassle to switch between accounts on Vita.

I think you're imagining it. By all accounts, P3 and P3:FES only allow control of the main character.

I think you can fund your SEN wallet with paypal through the account management site.
