Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

With the 64gb card on the way, are they removing that ridiculous 100 game limit? I ordered one, but just remembered that I saw that warning at one proint, meaning I probably won't be able to use it as is.

No word on if they even acknowledge it as an issue. They should at least know that such a premium item is being purchased by people who buy a lot of games.

Top of the page recommendations:

Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken
Shock Troopers (PSP)
Star Wars Pinball/Zen Pinball 2 + the new Balance of the Force table pack
Quell Memento

Has anyone played MLB 2013 The Show? I havn't played a baseball game since 2002 and I was wondering if it is any good or fun. It's only $10 at Best Buy and I'm thinking about it.

I have 12 and it's pretty solid for a portable baseball game, as expected from SCE San Diego. For $10 go for it. You won't really regret it if you love the sport.

It's really complicated to me, as somebody who never plays baseball games. But it seems like a very solid game, and filled with content.

I haven't play 2013, but from what i have heard it's a decent port of the ps3 version, and I would assume 2013 is a lot like 2012 just with some minor changes.... thus if you can enjoy baseball games at all I would say go for it, as the mlb the show baseball game series is a great series...

plus, if you like rpgs it's even better as the road to the show mode allows you to basically play a baseball rpg, where you create your character and then as you play as him you gain exp to spend to make him better :P

Yup, seems like Ill enjoy this game just as I did the first one, thanks for impressions :D Just asking but how was the performance, any drops anywhere or smooth sailing since the start?

Btw, Tearaway customization screen yesterday/today are awesome. You all as vita owners better have buy this game as one, its an original IP on the vita and two, its by Mm and three, cause look at this! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=86402800&highlight=#post86402800

Dont forget about these too

I did read something about using the triangle attack for the bullets on the flying things... can't try it yet, as I just have to beat the Mad Queen... (no freeplay unlocked).
Damn, she's annoying.

Oh, that explains everything. Beating her unlocks the sword, which makes literally everything else in the game way easier. I'd even recommend beating her first, since leaving her for last makes her much harder later.

Refer to this for tips. Essentially, run from her and get a nice chain going until you build around 9.5k aura or max, then do Release 3 and let her have it.

I did something like that -- but she managed to kill me when she had about 15% health left.
Bitch can 2 shot me... which doesn't make sense. And furthermore, when I countered her, it did 0 damage. >_<

That pushback she does once she has the mask on... it's like impossible to hit her.

Finally got internet at my new place. Seeing as it's an apartment block I figured I would follow the trend of the 3DS Streetpass Vitabros;

qCnvl44.jpg

Now for the long arduous task of copying all of my games to this new 64GB card.

It's hard to tell -- as I said, I'm about 90 minutes in, and it's pretty much all dialogue for at least the first hour. The only time you control your character is moving them from one cut scene to the next, though, to be fair, I'll note that you get to fight someone about half an hour in. Based on that limited experience it seems...so-so? The combat is real-time, which is nice, and you can switch between characters pretty easily. I'm interested in seeing what happens when I get better weapons.

Oh, and the whole wooing women thing kind of creeps me out. In fact, the game's whole representation of women is pretty creepy to me -- but I say that as a pretty hardcore feminist liberal, and as someone who doesn't play lots of JRPGs (though I did really like both Atelier Vita games), so you may/probably have a vastly different threshold for that kind of thing than I do.

Oooh, top of page! Nice. In keeping with this post...buy both Atelier games (Atelier Meruru and Atelier Totori), and import a 64GB card so you can actually have both on your Vita at once!

We are a lot alike, actually ^_^

I'll wait for deeper impressions on the game (VK3).

Meruru is awesome, I agree!

I have been enjoying the heck out of PvZ on my Vita lately. Interface could be a little bit nicer and sometimes the screen is a little small, but it's great to lie in bed and play.

The OLED screen doesn't hurt, either.

So corrosive got Malicious Rebirth? :O
I should keep up with this thread more often.

Anyway, I recently S-ranked the Mad Queen as the first battle on my S-rank No-Heal run, so here's what I did for those curious:

Start out using your fists to chain the mobs around the room, try to get a high combo going. When you see the boss symbol flash on your screen, the queen is going to use her
attack where swords come from the ground at your position. Avoid it and continue to chain enemies until you have high aura (8000-9999).

Aura charge to level 3 then use the square square square triangle fist combo on her repeatedly to first deal break her shield and then deal damage. She'll telegraph when she's about to do an attack, so dash to avoid everything she does and strike when she's recovering from her attack/the final attack in her teleport combo.
Once you get her health down, she'll put on her mask. Just repeat what you've been doing, except this time you must dash away to avoid the shockwaves she sends out, which she'll telegraph with a subtle motion.
As long as you stay in her face but dodge her attacks, the fight will be over fairly quickly.

Just remember to dodge her attacks, as blocking will only result in you getting guard-broken and stunned.

She's a lot of fun if you save her for last.

Thanks for the words guys! Been just playing the free PSN+ games and need a first good/cheap game to hold me over until I get money to buy some of the more expensive ones.

That sounds like fun! Sounds likes baseball superstars on iOS.

I only need 3 more bottles in world 3 before I can get the bottle locator and eliminate the annoying part of Sly games, bottle hunting. I just don't know where they are now. >_<

Bought Rayman Legends last week and I've been loving it. Finally decided to give the challenges a try tonight. I've been doing the never ending pit off and on for the last 6 hours trying to get myself that diamond cup. Finally got to ninth place but I didn't feel comfortable with the safety of that spot so I did one more run and by complete accident I got the fastest time. I don't care about being first as long as I get the diamond cup but after hours of playing it felt good to get in first.

I'm happy with my US account. We might not get a few stellar offerings on PS+, but we get all the good games on day one, which is not the case for Europe. And to be honest, if I see a game I like and that I think is great, I'd rather buy it instead of waiting for a possible PS+ showing.

For me PS+ is more a way to experience games I would have never experienced if I had to pay full price.

JP if you're fluent. Otherwise I'm ok with US since it got games like DC and Muramasa ahead of EU. I look at PS+ more as a way to try out games I'm on the fence about, would rather buy a game if I'm really interested in it.

Is Asia PSN server good? Prices of the games there are delicious. Plus I live in asia.

Just finished Gravity Rush. It was so good and pretty and I loved Kat's animations.I didn't even mind the gyro and touch game play. I did find it amusing for having so much fanservice lol.
I'm thinking of getting the DLC and going for the Platinum. It's a killer app in my eyes. Also makes me want more open world games on Vita.

DLC is worthwhile, but it's so much better if you haven't played the game yet. They blend it into the story just right...

so much fanservice? okay there was a schoolgirl uniform, but apart from that, i didnt think they sexualized Kat at all.

edit: just remembered the cutscenes where she just wears a towel or less...okay maybe you have a point haha

You can always wait 3 or 4 months, buy the DLC and start a new playthrough.

Well, there is a couple of times when you see her using only a towell, mainly in the comic cutscenes. I didn't especially care because the fanservice there was pretty soft and, for god's shake, she was taking a shower, so it's normal that she leaves the bathroom that way xD.

Man Shahid should look at the Indy PC game "Glare" That was just released, it would fit perfectly on the Vita, and it's an amazing game, I've just finished it but would definitely replay it on the Vita .... great action platformer

I don't use it myself but I checked it out when I first got my Vita. From what I've seen they get some Japanese games sooner and usually in English (at least for the text, if not the voices). Ragnarok Odyssey Ace, for example, should be in the Asia PSN store already (unless I'm mistaken and what's been released is retail only and not digital).

They also have a good selection of Vita-compatible PSP games that aren't in the Vita's US PSN store like Gran Turismo and FF Type-0, iirc.

just got Guacamelee! due the sale, and man this thing is really nice! it starts simple but later on it gets REALLY tricky with the walljumps/dimension-changing. love it!

Anyone noticed that stupid supermarket F2P game ?

It's typical smartphone crap with stamina but you can farm some easy trophies in it :)

Also i bought superfrog HD - holy crap they were making big levels in amiga times. I think i'd need map to max them :D

I don't know if anyone is interested, but here are some of my impressions of Valhalla Knights 3 so far. I'm about 5 hours, 45 minutes into the game, so I'm still pretty early (Level 6 Thief).

Graphics:
Very solid. The Vita isn't a PS3, or a high end PC, so I personally don't care about aliasing, or sub-native resolutions. I think the character models are good, with funny, creepy faces, but they're fine. Environments so far are detailed, and look good as well. I wasn't expecting Uncharted, or even Gravity Rush from VK3.

Story:
Interesting premise, but I'm not terribly deep into the story yet. It kind of reminds me a bit of Way of the Samurai, minus the Choose Your Own Adventure aspects, with a bit of Gladiator Begins thrown in. The text only presentation, and the cutscene animations straight out of the PS2 era are charming to me. I like warring gang storylines anyway, and setting the game in a prison reiminds me of cheesy 80's action movies. In short, it's enough.

Gameplay:
It's very, very grindy. I'm usually not a big fan of excessive grinding in games, but in this one, I actually don't mind it as much, since I'm usually playing the game on the bus ride to and from work, and have a good hour to kill each way.

The combat is fairly straightforward and simple so far, and a little clunky at first. I'm sure it will open up more once I start unlocking newer skills and doing some cross class stuff. The game is also very hard. I've died more than my fair share of times, so saving often is a must. No autosave is a bitch, but it's not a dealbreaker for me. I've been in the habit of regularly backing up my saves for years now, so it's not a new thing I need to learn here.

Overall, I am pleasantly surprised with this title, especially after the first game (which I somehow got for free this week; it's possible I bought it a while back, and forgot? I have no idea). Then again, I went into VK3 with quite literally no expectations at all. I had no intention of even buying the game this week, but after watching about a minute or two of a gameplay video I was sold.

Can I recommend this game to others? Eh, I don't know. I'm enjoying it, but I tend to have a high tolerance for a lot of the things that drive people crazy about these types of games. I don't think it's worth $40, but I also don't regret spending $40 playing it. In short, make up your own mind about buying it or not, dammit!

Pros:
Story/Setting
Combat is satisfying, if clunky sometimes
Old school, PS2 Way of the Samurai or Gladiator Begins (PSP) feel
Funny dialogue and characters (maybe not intentional)
Visuals are pretty solid and well done.

Cons:
The single setting could be a turnoff.
Grind heavy.
Awkward hostess mini-games are awkward (but I still play the fuck out of them on the bus, gawkers be damned).

You and me seem to be similar, your impressions reflect exactly what i expect from vk3, not the best vita game(but not even the worst) but an enjoyable game for me that i have a certain amount of tolerance and expectations.

Yeah i used to love exploring big maps in amiga platformers(superfrog's ones were probably the biggest though), amiga platformers were all about the pleasure of exploring and collecting.

EDIT:
about the supermarket game, i found it unexpectedly fun and addictive lol.

Hopefully they do that for the EU at some point, if VK3 ever hits these shores. I'd like to try it out.
Vk3 will release next week in eu.

Last question sir.

Let's say I go with US PSN, will there be any bad effects like lag for example since I live in Asia? For Online of course.

So VitaGAF, my soul has been sacrificed to Pokemon over the past week. Any notable news updates?

I'm expecting my 64GB card to arrived early next week. :3

It would seem Experience (developers of RPGs like Demon Gaze), has an unannounced game in development. No mention of platform, but since everything they've announced three Vita games in a row now we can always hope for a fourth.

Not sure what they sing in the ENG version... :/

Every day is great at your Junes! (Damn Nanako and that crappy comercial. Once you learn it you can never forget the song xD)
