New Ryse: Son of Rome story trailer [new footage]

I just hope the cutscenes aren't pre-recorded. Unfortunately thanks to the improved power of the next gen consoles and bluray drives it should be a lot easier for the devs to fool us

Love this part.

They arent and fidelity of characters and their gestures/expression is exactly the same in gameplay.

Killzone and Ryse look so far ahead of all the other games launching its crazy. Two very talented tech teams at work. Going to look awesome on my W900.

Again can't wait until we start seeing the second wave of games from both consoles, when devs have had more time with the new hardware. Can't even imagine the kind of shit we will be seeing from the likes of Naughty Dog and 343i.

We all need to remind ourselves that what we are seeing is compressed and running at 720p in these videos....yet still looks incredibly impressive on my 1080p monitor.

This game runs at a native resolution higher than 720p. It's going to look better than what we're seeing here. (head explodes)

Yeah because the whole, all your family was killed story line started with God of War.

Is every Roman & Greek game from now on going to be considered a God of War clone?

What about Gladiator? A God of War clone movie that came out five years before the first God of War?

WB

Great comeback :D

God of War? What looks like GoW to you? Outside of it being based on a Roman aesthetic and time period nothing is jumping out as GOW to me.

It's Microsoft's GoW in the same way Battlefield is EA's CoD. It's not exactly the same game, but it's obvious they're targeting the same genre and the same audience.

Great looking game. I hope we see more games set in the period of the Romans. The time period has a lot of untapped potential.

Hate the voice acting... I actually despise the main character from his voice alone (sounds like a spoiled evil roman that deserves to die).

the expression in this game are quite impressive.... really impressed
WTFFFFF......is this from GTTV's SP footage? I promised myself not to watch....

BY THE BEARD OF FUCKING ZEUS.
no big spoilers though... yet the video quality of the player makes the frame rate of the whole episode terrible and the quality of the stream dips

they are doing previews today... so I'm guessing we will get stable footage at the end of today

Seriously. These two games demonstrate just what next gen development can do. They demolish every other launch game on either platform.

They showcase varying approaches to what you can do next gen as well. Ryse is pushing some serious tech effects and Killzone is more open with more dynamic AI, physics, and such. Both are equally impressive in their own right and will probably be the best looking games on their respective platforms for a long time to come.

I agree. It's rare to see realistic yelling in games. Their mouth are usually barely moving, but sounds levels imply 100dB.

Ryse always looked nice but not THAT nice in my opinion. I still think the animations are horrible when playing and the gameplay looks boring. Crytek are very good at making nice graphics but their animation and character models are pretty bad imo.

I may be all wrong and the game could be amazing but we'll see. I'm not confident about it for now though.

Holy shit, KZ is looking stunning.

I still can't believe it, these are launch titles. Launch titles. I wasn't expecting to see this level of visuals at launch. Throw in NBA 2k14 and we've got one hell of an impressive launch line up in terms of showing off what the consoles can already achieve.

Oh man, I wish that was what next gen looked like. Always remember to add heaps of aliasing in your mind when viewing these things.

Agreed. That kind of anti-aliasing is unrealistic.

Anyway, these are from what seemed like the gameplay portion of the trailer.

I'm curious about this for Ryse, actually. Apparently some kind of AA is added when the game is scaled from 900p to 1080p, so maybe that would explain the soft and cinematic look the game has. I'd prefer this over jaggies everywhere.

Sadly there will still be jaggies everywhere. Certainly was when I played it. I can pray for some kind of additional AA added before launch, but there's no hope of it being as good as in these images.

Yeah, that was an old multiplayer build and possibly pre-up-clock. I also wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the jaggies everywhere have to do with poorly calibrated televisions. Of course I'm prepared for the worst considering the game is launch title, but post-processing forms of AA are very cheap and should suffice for those playing at a normal television distance.

Killzone looks really good. Ryse looks much better imo. Much much better at this point. Especially noticeable in the NPCs, foliage etc. I can't judge them in motion because the new Ryse video seemed to be light on gameplay and the gameplay shown in the Killzone footage was poorly produced (framerate).

tell me more

Whilst you're clearly exaggerating there, the blood is the one area I'm not 100% sold on, it looks too thick and "gloopy" for me. Now, I have no idea what the blood would look like when one cuts someones arm off, but I'd imagine it would spray a bit more and be a lot thinner.

Aye, plenty of reason to hope for improvement, but I refuse to build my expectations past what I've seen first hand, I've been burned before!

The worst would be no anti-aliasing and I doubt Crytek would do that. We just shouldn't expect near perfect image quality from these games and I'm not only talking about Ryse.

Admittedly I was worried at the prospect of merely playing fancier and uprezzed PS360 games this generation. However, I truly expect minds to be blow in the same way games like Uncharted 2 has blown us away. I expect eyes to melt next year.
