New Ryse: Son of Rome story trailer [new footage]

I'm sure they're done in-engine, that's why I said uncharted-style. Those were also done in engine but recorded into video files, so they could do more visually, and load stuff in the background while the video is playing.

I know it's hard to believe, i didn't believe it either when i watched the trailer but look:

One thing we are really damn proud about is that all characters share the same basic rig modules, or same fidelity whether they are in-game or cinematics.

Cevat basically calls out Uncharted/tlou/halo 4...etc... all the games that use higher quality assets in cinematics:
Usually games featured in cutscenes (pre-rendered), they were usually rendering a higher end model of a character. And being able to run the same rig, the same characters you see on the screen (above picture) are the same ones being rendered in realtime during the gameplay, you blur the line between gameplay and cinematics, which again makes it more believable.

Basically these are realtime:

I somehow missed that trailer in the OP. Looks sick. I kinda want to buy a xbox one now...

As for the rumors of spin offs or w/e u wanna call them. I'd love to see a game set in Ancient greece. Few games have ventured the territory. I don't think I have ever played them. They have pirates, city states, armies and warfare, superstition about the olympians and various other other worldly entities.

Knights/medieval stuff sounds good too. But Ancient Greece sounds better.

i said it in another thread and ill say it again: if this series is to go anywhere outside of ancient rome (which i hope it doesnt) then it needs to go to mesoamerica and the Aztecs.

i mean the cryengine ALREADY does beautiful jungles. its so obvious. and the history there is so brutal and untapped that it could make for something really unique.

imagine playing as a Jaguar warrior during La Noche Triste and trying to prevent Cortes from escaping Tenochtitlan or the subsequent Battle of Otumba where 30-40,000 Aztec warriors are routed by fewer than 1000 conquistadors. i mean come on. I NEED THIS.

im so over knights. the weaponry, the tactics. give me something different, with style http://www.aztec-history.com/ancient-aztec-weapon.html

I can get behind a Ryse: Apocalypto

It is hard to believe that this is real time...

Out of curiosity, what's hard to believe about it? Anything in particular? Based on some of the geometry and textures on the neck area, cloak clip, robes, shoulder armour etc, I think it looks pretty typical of a great looking game.

This:

Or any other picture. IMO near CGI quality.

I haven't seen yet any other game with this quality.
Honestly it doesn't look close to great CG work. Secondly this is Crytek we're talking about. They practically have the best tech in the business and have been working on this game for years and only needing to code for one closed system. It's not too difficult to imagine, this is the leap we should expect with the new consoles. They're exponentially more powerful than last generation, after all...

Well, after all the "1.3TF" thing, it looks better than I was guessing.

And of course, I don't mean "high bugdet CGI", but it has a CG-look, no aliasing, great textures, great poligons, etc.

Closest game to cg quality that i have seen. I agree, this is the leap we should have been expecting, there is nothing quite like it.

I can think of at least three that match it or best it, especially in the textures department, but I don't want to go down that route. Just feel like those who honestly think this looks CGI quality or beyond the realm of real time just haven't been paying attention. The only next gen footage we've seen that looks actually CG are The Sorcerer and Deep Down tech demo's.

I think the model with the gold galea is more impressive than the main character. His skin textures are probably the best I've seen in a game.

I'll be honest, but I'll probably be walking through sections like this. It sounds dumb, but a lot of times I like to act as though I'm actually the character and think what would the character actually do here? He'd most likely be walking instead of jogging by himself.

That and it'd allow me to soak in all the eyecandy, hnnng

It does not sound dumb at all. I'm the same way. Hell, I'll probably get blindsided and killed repeatedly stopping and staring at how gorgeous everything is while playing this.

RYSE: Son of Rome |OT| Assholes and Elbows, but no space marine's hair!

I had no plans on buying this game since it seemed more like a cinematic romp. But, I'll take simplistic combat and come back for seconds if it's done right. Brawlers are one of my favorite genres after all.

I will say the story sounds pretty trite...

In a quest for vengeance after discovering has been family has been murdered by barbarians, Marius sets onto a path of bloodlust soaked with political corruption and supernatural elements.

Well... never heard that before. Then again it's Crytek, so I shouldn't exactly be surprised after Crysis. Who knows, hopefully the story will veer off into interesting and new directions, but I'm not holding my breath based off the premise.

Lol, sounds like what i do in some games. That and zoom into the ground and characters haha.

The Oder 1886 looked more like CG than Deep Down (even more son than The Sorcerer's and its stiff hair and clothing). Deep Down had all sorts of artifacts going on.

Yep, that's where it was said. Same exact character models with the same overall fidelity that's used in the game's cutscenes, are the exact same character models used during real-time gameplay.

Crytek doing some incredible work.

You basically sum up perfectly what I do in games like this. I like to completely immerse myself into the role of the character. I won't walk all the time, but there'll definitely be times where I just take my time to appreciate everything around me.

Why am I seeing gifs on my phone if I have them disabled.

This.

I have them disabled on my phone but the ones Shinobi posted are showing up. I wish people could stop posting so many gifs. It makes browsing GAF on my phone a nightmare. Even trying to refresh the page is a chore with gifs enabled. Gifs are the worst thing about this site because people go overboard.

Shame he's got no pockets to put those hands in ;D

This would have made a lot more sense back when it was called "Kingdoms". Also, I preferred the name...

The 1.3TF thing is just buying into the whole console wars bs. There were people on GAF genuinely saying the XB1 was close to the power level of the Wii U.

It's a large leap over the 360.

I did always say I thought people were vastly underestimating the system. It's easy to get so use to the kind of power that we have available to us on the PC that we honestly forget to appreciate the kind of performance leap that the hardware represents over the previous generation of consoles. It isn't just more GPU power, it's a more efficient GPU architecture compared to what the 360 used, far more available memory, and there's perhaps more efficient ways to achieve specific results. A lot of things factor in, and Crytek is just showing us what we can expect when devs start scratching the surface. There's going to be some unbelievable stuff on both systems.

We're going to be spoiled rotten this upcoming generation.

Nah, just you Nib.
.....
Both of those *tech demos look good(even though one got noticeably downgraded) but they still have that videogame look to them. Ryse looks different, just can't put my finger on it.

uhmm... nothing is comparable to ryse right now!
especially to compare to what was playable.......!!!
we've seen deep down in tgs. didn't we?

I think what people may be noticing on Ryse is what Crytek refers to as "wet downs."

Cervat Yerli talked about it quite a bit in that DICE presentation he did, and it seems based on the description that it gives everything in the game a very organic kind of look. I think he said they applied this on everything. I would need to find the specific spot in the presentation.

yep, still looks incredible.

And 900p doesnt hurt iq in the slightest

From what's shown so far, it honestly doesn't. But then like I've said before, this isn't like last gen, where if a game missed a specific resolution, it would mean we were looking at something that wasn't actually running at an HD resolution. Last gen that would mean sub 720p resolutions. We shouldn't have any of that this generation. 900p is still a very good gaming resolution by today's standards, and I genuinely believe the same of 720p, because it's still a really good looking HD resolution. I think that's the problem with marketing sometimes. It convinces people that it's all about a specific bulletpoint, causing people to ignore the fact that there's other ways for developers to create an amazing looking game. It's why so many developers now are hesitant to confirm the rendering resolutions of their games. Not because if it isn't running at a particular resolution it means their games won't be amazing, but because they're worried about people unfairly judging the quality of their work based on only a single metric. Either way, I guess it doesn't really matter so long as the game looks great. Some people demand 1080p, and that's cool. I personally only demand 1080p for the game's UI. The actual graphics of the game itself can render at anything between 720p and 1080p. As long as it's HD, I'm fine.

Watched the new trailer via the 360 homescreen tonight. Just amazing. Best next gen graphics bar none so far. Hopefully they have a new gameplay trailer soon.
